The prime suspect in the disappearance of missing mother Michelle Parker has hired a prominent local attorney.

Dale Smith Jr. hasn't been charged with a crime, but Orlando police believe he knows something about Parker's disappearance.

WFTV found out Smith hired high-profile attorney Mark NeJame just hours after detectives named him as the primary suspect in Parker’s disappearance on Monday.

An attorney representing Dale Smith II, the ex-fiancé of Michelle Parker, defended his client as a caring father this afternoon, while criticizing the police who named Smith a suspect in her disappearance.

Smith's lawyer, Mark NeJame, addressed the media on Smith's behalf for the first time about 4 p.m. Tuesday, the day after Orlando police said Smith is their sole suspect.

NeJame accused police of leaking to the media that Smith had refused a lie-detector test. He said the Police Department doesn't allow its officers, when accused of misdeeds, to take those tests.

"Why? Because they know that they're not scientifically reliable," NeJame said. In at-times-heated remarks, he called the actions of Orlando police officials "the epitome of hypocrisy."

NeJame asserted his client's innocence, and said that Smith has not participated in the search for Parker because he is busy taking care of the couple's 3-year-old twins.

"He's done the right thing: providing security" to the children, NeJame said, adding that Smith has given at least three voluntary statements to police during the investigation.

Smith has been laying low since Orlando police officially named him a suspect in his former fiancé's disappearance Monday, but was spotted leaving his parents home before noon today.

When this came to light last night. I looked @ the clerk of court in orlando and yes it was him who was one of the evil bastards who did this.
I have lost all hope they will find her alive.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Department of Children and Families has taken missing mom Michelle Parker's children away from the man police say is their primary suspect in her disappearance, Dale Smith Jr.

An emergency custody hearing has been scheduled for Wednesday morning. Parker's mother, Yvonne Stewart, was given access to see the children Tuesday afternoon, DCF said.

I agree with the poster who said she's given up all hope that Michelle is alive. I also think she's dead. I don't think this mother of three would stay away from her babies if she wasn't.
The ex took the sticker off her Jeep after he killed her. I get the feeling after reading about this guys ego and looking at his pics. he's not one to take losing very well. It's sad, she was a beautiful girl.

I hope I'm wrong.

his family is covering for him too...... and the 2^nd wife died of a brain injury-what's the story on that? wont let me post link to obituary-says it has profanity.??? google Shannon Collins Smith Orlando Sentinel and it will come up-4^th obit down.

On the NG Show blogs on CNN. Shannon's family posted last night saying they always thought her death and injuries back in 2001 were suspicious. I have a hunch the skeltons are just beginning to fall out the Dale Smith's closet. It'll be interesting to learn how Shannon supposedly sustained the head injury that killed her. And, I have a hunch it'll be a so-called accident while in ole Dale Smith II's presence.

Cripes he even has a record for being involed in a stabbing murder 20-[/b[b]]years ago. This suspect has a steep history of violence and domestic abuse too, with court docs recording the patterns in all his relationships w/ women.

Wow, this is the first I have heard about his first wife... that is so sad.

I have thought from the very beginning he had something to do with Michelle's disappearance/death.

Apparently this guy cannot control his anger. It's sad as the kids will loose out the most, they have lost their mother and the father will be in prison for her murder, how will they feel growing up knowing all this :(

The Florida Department of Children and Families said it took the children into custody Tuesday after an investigation into the kids' safety.

The twin boy and girl had been in Smith's care since Parker dropped them off with their father on November 17. She has not been seen since then.

His lawyer told reporters it wasn't "physically possible" for Smith to kill Parker, dispose of her body, dump her car and drive their children to his parents house in 72 minutes.
He did not say whether Smith remained at his parents' house after arriving."

THIS IS THE TIME LINE THAT IS SOMEWHAT QUESTIONABLE. This is not a timeframe that does not have holes...Where do the times come from, are they accurate? Did he leave his parents?
