9/15/11 Det. Freep John Skelton was sentenced this morning to 10 to 15 years in prison, above state guidelines in the case in the disappearance of his three sons. The Morenci father accused in the disappearance of his young sons pleaded no contest to charges of unlawful imprisonment. The boys -- Andrew, Alexander and Tanner, ages 9, 7 and 5 -- went missing last fall in his custody and haven’t been seen since. Skelton received credit for 289 days already served. His sentence on each of the charges will run concurrently. Charges of kidnapping, punishable by up to life in prison, were dismissed under a plea agreement. Authorities have said they’re treating the case as a homicide investigation, and that investigation is continuing. Lenawee County Circuit Judge Margaret M.S. Noe exceeded the sentencing guidelines, which were 43 to 86 months. She called the guidelines "grossly inadequate." Noe said that for months, Skelton has refused to return his sons and has told many conflicting stories. Skelton has said his sons are with members of an organization and that he was trying to protect them from their mother, who has not been accused of any wrongdoing in the case by authorities. Noe said Skelton also told police he wrapped each son in a blanket and gave each a stuffed animal before placing them in a van. Noe said Skelton has said he wants to deprive the boys' mother, Tanya Zuvers, of memories of her sons. "Their mother, their family, the schoolchildren, the community of Morenci will never lose their memory of these children," Noe said. "They will lose their memory of you." Before his sentence was issued, Skelton told the court he loves his sons. "I don't think there's been a day that I haven't cried at least once or twice," he said. Zuvers also addressed the court, saying her sons' disappearance has been her worst nightmare realized. "Not one minute of the day, for the past nine months, two weeks and six days have the boys been from my thoughts," she said, reading from a prepared statement. "I worry about them — are they safe, warm, being fed and, most importantly, being loved? "My fear is that the answer to these questions are no because no one will ever be able to love those three precious boys like I do." Lenawee County senior trial prosecuting attorney Douglas Hartung called Skelton a coward, referencing his media interviews. "This is a man who courts the media like Charlie Sheen on a drunk bender," he said. Hartung challenged Skelton. "Are you man enough to tell the truth once and for all?" he asked. "You're nothing but a coward."

Police to conduct canvass on anniversary of Skelton boys' disappearance Daily Telegram Posted Nov 15, 2011 @ 03:17 PM MORENCI, Mich. — State and local police will be conducting a "road canvass" in the early morning hours of Friday, Nov. 25, in the hopes of gleaning new tips about the disappearance of Andrew, Alexander and Tanner Skelton over Thanksgiving weekend last year. Motorists passing through the intersection of U.S. 127 and Morenci Road between 4 a.m. and 7 a.m. will be handed a flyer and encouraged to contact the Morenci Police Department at 517-458-7104 with any information. The flyers will be distributed by Morenci police officers and Michigan State Police troopers. The canvass is timed to coincide with the hours that police believe the boys' father, John Skelton, was driving in that general area one year earlier to the day. Police are also renewing their request for people in the area to remain vigilant as farmers harvest their crops and hunters go out into the woods. Anyone who locates anything unusual is asked to contact their local police immediately. http://www.lenconnect.com/features/x1805...appearance

Ten years for killing your three sons? That is bullshit.
""I don't think there's been a day that I haven't cried at least once or twice," he said." I hope someone kills him in prison. I really do.

RaisingAPrince, thank-you! so much for posting this news up, I've been following this story all along and actually discovered Mock because of this story. Lady Cop mentioned in a Florida newspaper she would be keeping on top of this story. This story took in Ohio, Michigan and Florida.
John Walsh tried to interview Skelton no luck I'm afraid. Skelton is a coward as stated in the article. Here's the link to Michigan article:- http://www.lenconnect.com/article/201212.../121229844

I think of these boys often. It's such a bizarre story. I wish the ass would just tell someone where those boys are. Like Walsh said in that article, if they're dead or alive, the family deserves to know. I'll be interested to watch the show.

Possible Lead?
Police in Montana have ordered forensic tests to determine whether the remains of three children are those of three Michigan brothers who were reported missing seven years ago. The bones and teeth of three children were discovered Thursday in a shed in Missoula, Montana, Montana police. The children’s ages were estimated by an anthropologist to be 2-4 years old, 5-8 years old and 6-10 years old. The Montana case has similarities to three brothers who have been missing since 2010. Tanner, Alexander and Andrew Skelton were 5, 7 and 9 when they disappeared in Morenci on Black Friday that year. Michigan State Police issued a press release today, explaining more forensic work must be done to determine the identities of the remains. “MSP investigators are working with Missoula police to determine if there is any connection to Andrew, Alexander and Tanner Skelton,” the release said. “There has been nothing previously reported to police linking the brothers to Montana, and it is not known at this time if the remains are from related siblings. “Further forensic testing has been requested by police in Montana that may provide more answers,” state police said. “Until this testing is completed and additional investigation by law enforcement in Montana occurs, it cannot be determined if these remains belong to the missing Skelton brothers.” When the boys were reported missing they were in the care of their father, John Skelton. Skelton pleaded no contest to three counts of unlawful imprisonment in September 2011, after he claimed he gave the boys to unknown people. He is currently serving a 10-15 year prison sentence. I'm jumping to conclusions. What are the chances it's some other random children we never heard about.

But, it is possible that the remains belong to another set of children who were home-schooled and not reported missing by any family members. I hope the testing is completed quickly. If it's confirmed that the remains are those of Tanner, Alex, and Andrew.........their father will very likely be charged with murder and spend the rest of his life behind bars, in my opinion. |
