I guess the reason your government is extending unemployment benefits is that they have ascertained that there is a need within your community and people are desperate. I tend to be somewhat liberal but I'm also a realist. Our unemployment and welfare systems are wildly abused. I'm all for a hand-up (where it's due) but not perpetual handouts. The problem is sorting out those that actually need help versus those that are just lazy fucks.

I tend to agree with Maggot though. Two years is long enough for most people to find some employment (and I don't care if they have to work at McDonalds to make ends meet). There ought to be a way to dump the able-bodied people out of the system.

Ding,ding,ding,ding. Bullshit, when a person makes a certain amount of money they learn to live with that amount and get by. If they HAD to get out and work they would be picking apples, washing cars, bailing hay, slopping pigs etc. Government may be able to suppliment them through housing and food but they would at least be productive and contributing towards their supplimental housing food etc. Go ahead give any welfare slob a drug test and see how much money they do have. If you are getting paid by the government you should at least be able to take the drug test like any employee. Employment is out there just not the same amount of weekly wages a person may be used to. If they are getting paid the same amount they would make gainfully employed what is the incentive? I say ween them off the welfare tit before they "slip" on a banana peel and become a liability.
