#1

Does it take balls or is it a cowardly act. Selfish?

By their own hand or by cop?

Illness or just frustrated?

By their own hand. I hadn't even considered by a cop. I suppose when I read of it being done by a cop I always figure they did something to deserve being shot, that they did something stupid like pretending to have a gun, something of that nature.

I see it as a selfish, coward's way out. There is always help out there, if you are willing to look for it.

teens are the largest segment of the population statistically who commit suicide, it's a punishment to everyone they know, cowardice has nothing to do with the equation, desperation accounts for some of the total statistic, but the largest segment of teen suicide is made up of anger related to home, school, social and peer pressures.

Cowardice may be the seed especially for those who don't know pain and suffering but by the time of the act it's probably going to take courage. It really depends and there are more chicken shit reasons to off oneself than anything else. But everyone has a breaking point and if life deals you crap then there might be no alternative. The amount of suffering one can endure is near infinite but I wouldn't judge someone for being pushed over that line.

^^^ that with a minor edit.

Cowardice and inability to handle the problems that seem to get overwhelming for some.Others,....desperation and the sense of no other solutions to issues during times of clouded thoughts and severe stress.
The damages to those left behind are beyond words and are never really fully realized by the victims until sometimes many years later as the emotional and mental scars surface over and over and the healing process never really devolops.

Suicide isn't always over being dumped or unpopular.

I didn't know her well but an acquaintance of mine jumped off a freeway overpass in to oncoming traffic earlier this week.

A lot of people commenting online about her death are saying it was incredibly selfish because of the trauma caused to those that hit her and those that witnessed it.

Jesus. That's awful.

The pain is obviously unbearable if death is preferred over living.

I'm probably going to make a spectacle of myself when my time comes 'cuz I'm not going peacefully.

...I say that like I'll have a choice.

Gosh User. I'm sorry. It is selfish the way she did it. She could have done it privately without involving other people.

There's always going to be other people involved. I don't think it would be so great to find someone dead who had stuck a gun in their mouth either. Plus whatever family and friends you leave behind.

I don't know. Jumping off a freeway overpass is one of the last ways I'd want to go. I'm saving up a bunch of valium. Just in case.

I assumed that she was out of her mind when she made that leap and wasn't at all thinking about repercussions or anything. I found out today though that she had been talking about suicide on and off for quite awhile. I spoke with a guy that I really admire (who knew her better) and he's a very nice guy but he said she was something of a drama queen and would have wanted witnesses etc. [Image: knownothing.gif]

I meant involving others as in they had to actually see her jump. But it's traumatic at any stage of the scenario. She was a drama queen and wanted attention? Wow. I don't even know what to say to that seeing as she jumped to her death.

So sorry username, what terrible news to come to your ears. I cannot imagine jumping off a bridge, good grief they'd have to be out of their head.
Yes and imagine being in traffic during this, it would be hell!

It's a cowardly act is what it is, it's a cruel stunt to do this to family and friends.

I couldn't mourn a person that did this deed.

Why not go fishing in a boat, jump over and take a deep breath. At least the family would collect the life insurance.

I hope the people that hit her or witnessed it get help for their own mental trauma but I still have to believe that someone has to be pretty damn cuckoo/desperate to take their own life especially in that manner. Even if you want attention, there has to be a switch "off" position in your brain that doesn't realize that you're going to fall so many feet and get struck by vehicles until you're splattered all over the freeway.

Who knows what she was thinking at the time, but it was most likely about herself and not the accident she could have caused potentially killing other people. So yeah, I'd say it was a selfish act.
