A reward for information leading to an arrest in the slayings of a Springfield Township couple has increased to $16,000, a spokesman for victim Lisa Straub’s family said Monday.
Ms. Straub, 20, and Johnny Clarke, 21, were found asphyxiated in Ms. Straub’s parents’ Longacre Lane home in Springfield Township Jan. 31. Both had plastic bags over their heads and their hands were bound with duct tape.
Jim Verbosky, Ms. Straub’s uncle, said the family is continuing to solicit donations for the Lisa Straub Benefit Fund, which was set up at Fifth Third Bank to be used as a reward for the arrest and conviction of those responsible.
Mr. Verbosky also said a benefit planned at T.G.I.Fridays, 1334 Bernath Pkwy., has been reset for noon to 10 p.m. Thursday. Proceeds will benefit the reward fund. Ms. Straub was a server at the restaurant.

How did anyone get alerted that something was happening to Johnny and Lisa?
TIFFANY
Tiffany called a friend who then called Maytee. Ok, so Tiffany is the one who knew something wasn't right. How did she know this? She says because she was on the phone with Johnny and heard the intruders come in. If she is lying about that phone call and what she heard, then why would she have alerted anyone in the first place (Sherita/Cherita)? She knew something was going on.
If Tiffany WAS INVOLVED with the crime, why would she have called the friend and said that Johnny and Lisa were in trouble? Because people knew (Maytee said that Johnny told her they were having friends over to shoot pool) that Tiffany was supposed to be over there that night and she didn't want to get blamed for the crime. She wanted to seem like a caring, concerned friend (two hours later, mind you).
I keep looking around the various FB pages for a Sherita, Sharita, Cherita, Charita. Nothing. Not in any of the friends lists. Seems odd considering she was the one who got the phone call. Seems like she would be part of the crowd, no?
Do you want to try Sarita - enjoy all your posts! Thanks!
Well, there was the Sarita who shared restraining orders with Maytee, but I'm certain that on the 911 calls Maytee says Sherita (whatever the spelling may be). When Tiffany was here I think I asked her about Sherita. Can't recall the exchange, though, and I'm too tired to look it up! Anyway, Tiffany made no correction on "Sherita" (though she might not, just to keep up the confusion).

Storm: I was wondering if LC and Duchess might let us have reference thread, in the members only section, where we can post the FB and MySpace links of the peripheral playahs. That would really help me! I know I keep I saying I need a flow chart and people probably think I'm kidding but I'm not! I can't keep all the people straight and I can't figure out whose FB page to go to look at to locate the friends with various initials. I think the entire social circle is fascinating to explore and relevant to the case.
no permission is needed! you start any threads you like. i'll go ahead and do a facts/media/program thread. no discussion, no theories, just the facts ma'm.
as soon as i do i'll post the link.

If I recall correctly Maytee referred to Sarita as her little cousin.

This is really baffling .... Tiff supposedly called Johnny's best friend's girlfriend first (Sherita/Shareda/Sharita/?), who wouldn't give her Maytee's number - can that be true? and if it is, why wouldn't she give her the number? Tiff can't be given the number for some unknown reason so Maytee has to find out from someone else indirectly, yet John Sr asks Tiff to drive him to the house. Why did he do that? How did he know her friend's mom would be home from work by then and she would have access to a car? Doesn't he have a car himself? How well did Tiff and Johnny's parents know each other? And how did they know each other? Were they friends, or only casual acquaintances - if so, how? Also, who was Johnny's best friend? I thought Ruben or Reuben was his name, but why hasn't his name come up again since?

I'm questioning the relationship of Tiff. with John and Lisa maybe it wasn't a friendship at all but maybe a business relationship or casual friend,I don't think they were great friends like Tiff makes it out. My opinion though.

Actually on the legacy link, Ruben's mom said she had only known Johnny for a couple of years. The R's do not live in south Toledo. They live closer to the Straubs.

Sarita Vasquez Avalos is the name on the restraining order. Not the same person, fasho. And it looks like Maytee Also filed one against Sarita.

1. why wouldn't she give her the number? I've had people call me & ask for a someones #. I don't give it out until I check with the the person who's # is being requested.
2. yet John Sr asks Tiff to drive him to the house. Why did he do that? Per Tiffanys testimony, after sharita calls Maytee, John Sr. calls Tiffany. Tiffany rehashes the story, tells John Sr she's going back by there & asks if he wants a ride. He accepts.
3. How did he know her friend's mom would be home from work by then and she would have access to a car? She was already out driving around. Per Tiffanys testimony, she had already been over to the Straubs to check out the scene before calling anyone to alert them of anything.
4. Doesn't he have a car himself? I cannot confirm nor deny that I've heard something about them having a van somewhere in this thread... I don't know where.
5. How well did Tiff and Johnny's parents know each other? And how did they know each other? Were they friends, or only casual acquaintances - if so, how? It sounded to me as if they did not know eachother prior to this incident.
6. who was Johnny's best friend? I've heard Rueben. I tried to look him up on FB after Ruebens mom posted on JCs online funeral registry but did not find any match. Apparently not everyone in the city has a FB. Same goes for a Sharita, nothing. I also used various spellings.

Another thing I've noticed about Maytee...she seems to be in competition with the Straubs, whether it be to set up a fund because they set up a fund or because she's a good mom just like they were good parents, Lisa's past is just as bad as Johnny's past. I can't imagine her pain and what that can do to you but that's just an observation I've had...add that with the love she had for Johnny but knowing Johnny loved Lisa and chose to live with her over Maytee...I definitly can see her feeling like she had/has to comepte with Lisa/Straub's. AND..let's not forget if what's been said about her husband cheating, she's probably over the top with jealousy and feelings of competition.
I so agree with you here.
I think Johnny was distancing himself from Maytee. Others have used the word "embarrassed" and I believe that to my core.
Here was a chance for Johnny to make good. He was welcomed by a stable, respectable family and loved by a young woman who didn't talk or act like a gangster. She was edgy enough to like to party and to tolerate his past transgressions. He could envision a future far different from the environment of his youth, an upbringing he was most likely desperate to escape.
I think Maytee resented it fiercely. And I think Johnny's peers resented it, too.
I think you're probably right!
If Johnny was completely trying to escape his past and begin a better life, he wouldn't be hanging out with the social elite like Tiffany, have digital scales in his girlfriend's parent's house, and he sure wouldn't let Lisa around people like Tiffany. I'm having a hard time describing what I mean.
I think there's a difference between distributing drugs among peers and running with that crowd versus thinking of yourself as a businessman and distributing. The only parallel I can give you is a situation my sister was in many, many years ago.
She had met a guy who had a modest house (at a relatively young age) and lots of disposable cash. Few people were allowed his phone number and even fewer were allowed at the house. She liked the lifestyle, realized the source of income pretty quickly, and chose to ignore it. They lived together for several years, socializing with a small circle of friends and living the high life. Until the FBI showed up.
I think Johnny was attempting to position himself as a more insulated dealer. Maybe he thought he would eventually ditch the lifestyle altogether once he'd made some bit of money (and the money is very, very hard to give up). Maybe he thought he could control it and was protected from direct associations with those on the streets. Either way, I think he envisioned a different life from that of his childhood and was probably severing ties with one social group in order to be accepted into another. That doesn't necessarily mean getting out of the drug business. Where Tiffany comes in is absolutely beyond me because I don't think she is the kind of person he would want around his girlfriend or in the house. Maybe that's where the gang relationships come in. I just don't know.
