Johnny S. Clarke & Lisa Straub- young Ohio couple murdered
The only thing I can add at this point is that Mustang couldn't get in so he didn't stay at the court house. He has talked to Jeff, and Maytee read a statement and did OK.

WTVG spent way too much time on Maytee. Ugh!

An emotional, yet poised Vasquez Clarke spoke first.

I never, NEVER expected to see that word used to describe Maytee. Never.

i hope one of the news sites posts video of the impact statements. maybe i'm just being impatient (probably...) but it seems like they've had more than enough time to do so. Reading excerpts that the journalists choose to include just isn't the same

It was good that Maytee held it together and managed to read out her statement. Did anyone else notice the difference between her statement and Lisa's sister's one? Lisa's sister talked of what Lisa could not now do, eg. walk her dog, get married etc. She then talked of effects of the loss of her sister.

Maytee's statement was again focused on herself, a brief mention of the effect on Big John, but again it was all about herself.

I know it's harsh what I have written, but its true.

she was probably stoned on xanax and who knows what else. she also knew her ass would be in a jail cell if she acted out in court again.

i fully expect plenty more of her voodoo hoodoo screaming horseshit and threats...

because this case will never be closed until all involved are charged and brought to justice. williams didn't do it alone.

Thank-you! Judge Dean Mandros!

Judge Mandros took office 2011 he was a former Prosecutor.

I was sorry to hear Mustang could not get in the Court Room, I was hoping that channel 13 ABC would video everything, and I have no idea what has happened to Heather Miller-Klinger, I thought she was going to do reporting for 13 ABC, I didn't see her once?

RaisingAPrince, I saw the comments by Williams' cousin SB he removed all his posts, what a fool! KD is still on there yacking about DNA.

Pico, I am glad part of this is over for the Straub's I can understand why they didn't want to go on the stand to-day and thank goodness Maytee made it through. Best of all Big John kept his cool. God Bless them!

Judge: convicted murder Williams "barbaric"
TOLEDO, Ohio -

Samuel Williams was sentenced today for the murders of Johnny Clarke and Lisa Straub in 2011.

The couple was found in Springfield Township with plastic bags over their heads and their hands bound with tape.

Lucas County Common Pleas judge Dean Mandros sentenced Williams to two consecutive life terms in prison without parole.

But before the sentencing, Judge Mandros addressed Williams and didn't mince words.

"What took place in that house was barbaric to the extreme. At a minimum, you should be forgotten, and it has been said that to be forgotten is a fate worse than death. Whatever quality that separates human beings from other forms of life, you just don't possess."

Judge Mandros also sentenced Williams to 11 years each for two counts of kidnapping and one count of aggravated burglary.

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -Samuel Williams has been sentenced for the aggravated murders of Johnny Clarke and Lisa Straub in Springfield Township back in 2011.

Williams will serve two consecutive life terms in prison without parole, plus another concurrent 33 years. He was ordered to serve life without parole in prison for each of the two counts of aggravated murder. Additionally, Williams will serve 11 years for each of the two counts of kidnapping and one count of aggravated burglary.

Judge Dean Mandros says he delivered the sentence to punish Williams and protect the community. Overall, the families of Straub and Clarke say it was a sentence that makes them happy.

Clarke's mother and Straub's sister made emotional statements in the courtroom.

"I will never ever forgive Samuel Williams or forget what he did to Johnny, how he destroyed my son, his girlfriend, our families and our life," said Maytee Vazquez-Clarke, Johnny Clarke's mother.

Mandros called the murders "barbaric."

"It's said that to be forgotten is a fate worse than death, and I hope at some point, the family members of these two young people will be able to remember Lisa and Johnny, and yet never remember you," said Mandros.

Williams had nothing to say when he left the courtroom, but the victims' families did.

"We got him. He'll never see daylight again on the streets. He'll never be able to murder and torture another kid, another innocent child," said Vazquez-Clarke.

The jury found Williams guilty on two counts of aggravated murder, two counts of kidnapping, and one count of aggravated burglary July 30, but was dismissed after they told the judge they could not reach a unanimous decision on a sentencing.

It was a capital murder case, but since the jury could not agree on a verdict, Mandros made the decision. By law, only a jury can impose the death penalty. Mandros' options therefore were life in prison without parole, life in prison without parole for 30 years and life in prison without parole for 25 years.

Defense Attorney Jerome Phillips said he is not surprised the jury could not come to an agreement because this is one of the first cases he has seen where the prosecution has asked for the death penalty without having overwhelming evidence that the defendant is guilty.

Co-defendant Cameo Pettaway was acquitted July 26 of similar charges in another courtroom, after Judge James Bates cited a lack of sufficient evidence.

Yes this was good news today. The only bad thing for the families is that,in all likely hood, they will be going through all this again. I was talking to Lisa's father tonight and he seemed quite confident that more arrests will be made. It must be awful to know one is free!

I felt that Judge Mandros made a very strong statement. Sam Williams showed no emotion whatsoever, which makes it very clear to me that he does not give a shit.Wt
