but the Great Barrier Reef is a jewel!

Are you kidding LC. What about the Gold Coast? we also have a Sunshine Coast, and the Gold Coast has a suburb here called Surfers Paradise. And the beaches are beautiful. We also have a miami on the Gold Coast too.

Your beaches are pathetic compared to ours. Get real.

We may not have the hot (too hot unless you are a reptile) weather but our beaches are comparable to any in the world.

We also have the added bonus of not having the worlds most poisonous and deadly creatures to worry about.

Face it, you live in a largely deserted wasteland filled with poisonous critters.

Not were I live. It snows as well as being close to the beach. I would rather a critter here than all those stabbing and knife crimes over there in the UK. Your crime over there is off the charts. How about them critters?

What I want to know is how this asshole spells his name. When I googled "him", I got this spelling at Wikipedia:

Muammar Gaddafi

I've also seen:

Moamer Khadafi and
Gadhafi

*pauses to research*

Google is a wonderful thing:

"This name, which is spelled القذافي in Arabic, is spelled in so many different ways in the Latin alphabet:

Gadafi, Gadaffi, Gaddafi, Gaddaffi, Gadhafi, Gadhaffi, Ghadafi, Ghadaffi, Ghaddafi, Ghaddaffi, Ghadhafi, Ghadhaffi, Kadafi, Kadaffi, Kaddafi, Kadhafi, Khadafi, Khaddafi, Khaddaffi, Khadhafi, Khadhaffi, Qadafi, Qadaffi, Qaddafi, Qaddaffi, Qadhafi, Qadhaffi, Qadhdhafi, Qathafi"

"How Should We Spell Gadhafi?

Well, there's no real right answer. However, the Straight Dope provides some sound advice. It notes that it is a general rule of thumb that if there is doubt over how to spell a person's name, you simply use the version that the person in question uses. In this case, it's a bit tricky since Khadafi spells his name in Arabic.

However, the Straight Dope points out a strange incident that sheds some light on this issue. Back in May, 1986, Kadafi wrote a letter to a class of second-graders in St. Paul, Minnesota. Underneath his Arabic signature was typed "Moammar El-Gadhafi"

Now Obama is saying that the US will only play a supporting role in the no fly zone, so you back him now right because you were calling him a dumb fuck before when he said the US was going to bomb Libya?

Or can you not fathom a black man being RIGHT? THAT is racist.

I was relieved to hear Obama say that.

There have been aspects of this that have been handled masterfully. Getting the Arab League to approve and participate in the no-fly zone was a smart/necessary move.

Oh and I think limiting our involvement was smart too. We already look like the asshole invaders from the West over there--best not to add to that sentiment.

Ya, It's time that America gave up it's torch of freedom and democracy, time to take a back seat and become the failure that the world so wants to see us be.

Just remember when we stop fighting for freedom for others we really have stopped fighting for it for ourselves also.

It's such a grand thing to be alive to see, The fall of America as the standard for freedom.

Jesus, so we have to be in their bombing them (ourselves) or we're giving up the torch of freedom and democracy and a failure as a country? That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard, Dick.

When the U.S. does "support" for any military action that is code for the U.S. will be the center piece of any military action. Controlling and sending any U.N. backed country to where it is needed. This includes any and all British "support" . So either it be George Bush or Oblama all U.N. support will be tactically maneuvered by the United States of America. Being a black man makes no difference.

China, Russia, Germany has tactfully agreed that intervention is not warrented and they will have no part in it. It is a civil affair and Europes problem. Let them take care of it. The U.S. should back off.
Most of and most likely all monetary "support" will come from the U.S.

Our current President is not equiped to sustain the pressure as his previous decisions have proven. Sad to say, but true. His leadership skills are lax. Be it black or white.
As soon as you realize this you will continue to defend him, as a minority and not as a person with egotistical ideals.

I can't wait until it's half-way finished so Obama can be flown in wearing a flight suit, with the crotch packed full of socks, to declare misson accomplished.

Maggot normally I would agree with you on this, but this president truly is weak and he has no intentions of standing up for freedom and democracy as his predecessors have.

It has been the American way for as long as America has stood, but remember "join with me as we fundamentally change America" was this presidents battle cry.

Then again as I clean out the crap in this one corner. I wrap up the trash after throwing a few toys away, I get this one toy that keeps on saying "To infinity and.....beyond" Knowing the trash guy will hear this as he picks up my rubbish and tosses it, I feel the same way towards Oblama. And I did give him a year to try, but after giving my tax money to the banks I believe he should put on a helmet and point his finger to the sky and say.......To infinity..........and beyond. And just go away and let the adults play.

You can not compare Obama to Carter or Ford. No fucking comparison. Whether or not you agree with his decisions, Obama has made them. A LOT of them.

We ARE participating in the situation in Libya (and whether or not we'll have fighters in there remains to be seen--Obama only said he wasn't going to send in ground troops).

I don't mind if France or Britain take the lead on this, figuratively or literally, and I see benefits for our overseas image if they do (although I agree with Maggot, behind the scenes, we're probably largely directing this...not sure about the finances. I read somewhere that participating countries would be paying for their own planes, etc. but I haven't researched it).

I thought Bush was trigger-happy, FFS. We don't have to beat our chests and show our might at every turn (and if we do, THAT will bite us in the end). There's this little word called diplomacy...check in to it.
