Awwww, now don't go and fuck with a conspiracy theory, you know every one of them are true.

conspiracy theories are also constructed to "shape" the opinion of people toward the interest of some larger more complex outcome.

it's a two sided game.

Because people are fucking lazy and it's easier to have someone else make your opinions for you.

People are socialized to be passive and uninquisitive when it comes to questioning authority.

Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington (CNN) -- Staff Sgt. Calvin Gibbs is a world away from the tiny, sun-baked Afghan villages he is accused of terrorizing as the leader of what prosecutors call a rogue group of soldiers that targeted civilians.

But on Thursday, in a drafty military courtroom near Tacoma, Washington, Gibbs is expected to learn if he will spend the rest of his life in prison for those killings. A five-person panel composed of three officers and two enlisted soldiers started deliberating shortly before 10 a.m. (1 p.m. ET) on whether the staff sergeant walks free or serves a potential life sentence.

i expect the rest of the photos will be published at some point.
there should be some backlash soon.

Washington Post
The U.S. military once again condemned the actions of some of its own troops in Afghanistan on Wednesday after photographs surfaced of smiling soldiers posing with dead insurgents in the latest battlefield scandal to undercut the decade-long war.

The photographs, obtained by the Los Angeles Times, show soldiers posing next to Afghan corpses, including the mangled body of a suicide bomber hoisted by his ankles. In another shot, which the newspaper described but did not publish, two soldiers hold up a dead man’s hand, extending his middle finger.

LA TIMES
The paratroopers had their assignment: Check out reports that Afghan police had recovered the mangled remains of an insurgent suicide bomber. Try to get iris scans and fingerprints for identification.

The 82nd Airborne Division soldiers arrived at the police station in Afghanistan's Zabol province in February 2010. They inspected the body parts. Then the mission turned macabre: The paratroopers posed for photos next to Afghan police, grinning while some held — and others squatted beside — the corpse's severed legs.

A few months later, the same platoon was dispatched to investigate the remains of three insurgents who Afghan police said had accidentally blown themselves up. After obtaining a few fingerprints, they posed next to the remains, again grinning and mugging for photographs.

Shit happens. Its asking a lot to send a guy over somewhere to do that job and expect him to act like a sunday school teacher. That kind of shit has happened in every fight that has had people in it. The afgans, iraquis and all the rest of them, see what they have done, hung bodies up, filmed beheadings, dragged bodies with vehicles, all on film, Our guys bodies by the way. And they don't expect some of the same in return? WTF is that? This a society that takes "An Eye for an Eye" to a whole new level. Fuckem, fine the guys $20 for being stupid enough to be in a posted photo and call it good.

It's important for American soldiers to act appropriately in order to maintain a righteous position so our next campaign is easier to sell to the public. It helps us avoid Vietnam style public backlash and differentiates the image of soldier from unpleasant realities of war.

Has anyone seen the new Navy ad?

I don't like my baby to see shit like that. It hurts you in places you didn't know you had. It's always a mindfuck for a good six months when he gets home. He sees too much.

There ARE bad soldiers. There are. Most are good and decent human beings, but there are a few fucked-in-the-head criminal types like Pancho Villa who is smiling over the body. The other soldiers hate them, too, if that is any consolation. They know who is right in the head and who isn't.

I've never asked my boy about killing. That is his business. If he wants to tell me someday, he will, but I don't think he wants me to know. Because he is the designated marksman in an infantry unit, I know he has to squeeze the trigger. That is his job. As long as he squeezes it for the right reasons, and in the proper situations, I can live what he does. He can, too. As I said, war is hell.

I know you must be very proud of your son.
