Tripoli, Libya (CNN) -- Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi's youngest son -- Saif al-Arab Gadhafi -- was killed after a NATO airstrike, a spokesman for Libya's government said Sunday at a press conference.

Moammar Gadhafi and his wife were in their son's house when it was targeted, spokesman Musa Ibrahim said. Both of them are in good health, according to the spokesman.

The victim is one of two of Gadhafi's sons named Saif. The other is Saif al-Islam Gadhafi, who had previously touted reform but has emerged as one of his father's most visible defenders in recent months.

Ibrahim said several of Moammar Gadhafi's grandchildren also died in the attack.

The house in Tripoli was destroyed by the strike, with a massive crater where the house used to be. At least one unexploded bomb could be seen at the scene.

The building was in a residential area of Tripoli, according to Ibrahim, who insisted that Saif al-Arab Gadhafi was a student in Germany who was not deeply involved in Libya's military and government. The 29-year-old was one of Gadhafi's eight biological children.

Ibrahim railed against NATO after the fatal strike, calling it an illegal act and a "war crime."

This is a takeover of the middle east (close enough, anyway) and it will not end well. Libya attacked nobody but the EU and the US did steal billions of Libya's sovereign wealth fund as soon this shit started.

Does anyone know what is going in Egypt? Who is going to be in control there? Syria is also exploding, or so we're told.

Tunisia
Libya
Egypt
Yemen
Bahrain
Syria

Where else?

It's the horror of collateral damages in a war. I'm not prepared to lay the blame at the feet of the soldiers though, soldiers do what they are told, that's what good soldiers do, they obey the command, also the bad guys are known far & wide as to hide behind innocents, that's a fact. I'm not a tree huggin' liberal or a sheep who blindly follows because it's the right thing to do, I have my own opinions but first & foremost I support our soldiers. [/i][/size]

What exactly does it mean to "support our soldiers"?

Though I read a little on it, I could never figure WTF that war was about (the real reason). Did they have funds looted as well?

I really wish the nations of the world would take care of their own bullshit. Doesn't seem to work that way, though.

I'm a bit disgusted about killing political leader's families. I don't approve.

It is lovely to live in a country where you can say any crazy fucked up thing you want. I think some of you take that for granted, especially if you didn't personally sacrifice anything for it.

The Balkans are considered a strategic region and Yugoslavia, in spite of having fought against the Nazis in WWII, was considered a threat on account of it's not being suitably acquiescent to Western influence and exploitation. Our gov't has never tolerated nationalism in states considered to be in it's sphere of influence. In the past the public was brought into line via the spector of communism, and in the post-Soviet era this has morphed into anti-narcotics and anti-terrorism hysteria.

What sacrifice have you made for the cause of true freedom?

My baby was 3 weeks old when my husband went to Operation Iraqi Freedom. I have raised the child by myself since then. Oh, and I just spent $120 sending my son Mega T gum and beef jerky to Afghanistan.

You?

All you soft-fingered pseudo military experts disgust me a little, but you have the right to do just that.

I gave you the short answer cost of war to my family, the stuff that is easier to cope with on a daily basis. The stuff that doesn't matter.

Someday, when the dust has settled and our lives are back in order, I may share the real cost of freedom. I just know that you have no real idea or you would STFU. People pay for you. Better people than you are. Now be witty and pretend you are the master of your universe and continue to disparage those who really give you your personal power. Because it is only free to you and people like you. Most days I don't think people like you are worth it...

You?

You really believe that Bush sent forces to Iraq because he had a hardon for freedom?

I thought you were a bit smarter than that but I guess not.

Sorry to have to break this to you but your losses have nothing whatsoever to do with freedom.

There isn't a nation on this planet whose politics serve the cause of freedom per se, and that is patently obvious to anyone having a rudimentary grasp of the world in which we live.

Perhaps someday you'll find the fortitude to direct your anger towards those who are responsible for your losses, rather than those who aren't.

Unless you are a cabinet member, you probably don't know why the troops were sent and why they remain. They don't tell us everything, not that all of them could give a good reason if asked. Obama hasn't ended the war and you know he would have LOVED to do that and make Bush look like an asshole. I don't claim to know, either, I just hope there IS a good reason. I know the troops have their own motivations. As the politicians don't carry guns, they don't really matter after they have sent troops.

We focus more on getting home. Six hours on patrol, six hours off, over and over for the next 7 months. That's what all the political rhetoric boils down to for us. And a lot of lost sleep.

Does the reason matter to the soldier? does the soldier get to say fuck you your motives are screwed?

eventually you may learn to separate politics from the true cost of war.

People of all politics died, people of all finacial backgrounds died, and people of all catagories of humanity died.

does it matter what Bush was after? does it matter why congress approved the action? does it matter even a little bit?

The men and women that went to war went for the ideal of freedom and liberty, that's just the way it is and has always been.

Perhaps you are a little too comfortable with your own freedom?

Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.

OK, rothschild. We are all just a bunch of fucking assholes.

Now what have you won? And what did you gain? And who did you help?

You demonstrate the falseness of my words and I'll gladly pay for your son's next care package.

And for the record, I don't consider myself to be any better than you. We are different -- largely due to circumstances beyond our control -- but that doesn't make you a "fucking asshole" in my mind.

The irony. If you believe in a democracy, then we (the collective "we") have to take some responsibility for those that we vote in to power (including *gasp* Bush). Pesky hanging chads. Smiley_emoticons_slash

America has a well established history of foreign intervention for the sake of worldly gain, so one needn't be a cabinet member to grasp the motivations that underlie the actions of today's politicians.

There is great truth in the saying that "good people finish last".

As for Obama, he's a political creature who understands the rules of the game well enough to know that he is greatly limited in the degree to which he can deviate from the established order, so naturally he upholds the status quo.
