If a gun is a tool then what is its original purpose?

To kill animals so we can eat. It was a tool invented to provide a mechanical advantage, as all tools are. F=MA (force equals mass times acceleration). Since we wouldn't be able to carry a huge fucking rock to throw at an animal (increasing mass to increase force), we went the other way and accelerated small projectiles.

Human nature and necessity turned it into a weapon. Blame David for killing Goliath. We used slings (predate guns as hunting tools that "shoot" projectiles) for hunting, too.

Same deal with cars.

Just because we use a certain tool as a weapon most of the time (some real hunting goes on in the South, so weapons are only turned on others in urban settings) DOES NOT mean it also isn't a tool. but it is a weapon.
i do not recall having to take screwdriver qualification at the academy. on the screwdriver range. with the screwdriver instructor.
the reason for that is we do not generally cause people to die by the use of screwdrivers. sometimes, but not usually. we do not need to be licensed to carry wood planes. or saws.

Here is the most interesting angle to me: Even though it easily PROVEN that a gun is, in fact, a sort of tool, those 75% would still NOT change their answer. It is the human way. It is why is it so difficult to unteach things and unring bells. Once you think you know something, it is very difficult to get you to "unknow" it.
