Here is someone I could actually support. I think Jersey is lucky to have him.

A determined cadre of Republican donors is casting wishful eyes on New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie in an 11th-hour push to persuade the former prosecutor to enter the 2012 presidential race.
The drive reflects lingering discontent in some GOP quarters over the current crop of GOP candidates, particularly since the recent stumbles of Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who has led in national polls of Republican voters.

user and I were discussing health insurance for poor people and I looked it up. There are ALREADY ways to get health care for a fraction of what I pay or TOTALLY EFFEN FREE:

From the feds:
Federally-funded health centers care for you, even if you have no health insurance. You pay what you can afford, based on your income. Health centers provide
•checkups when you're well
•treatment when you're sick
•complete care when you're pregnant
•immunizations and checkups for your children
•dental care and prescription drugs for your family
•mental health and substance abuse care if you need it WHHHAAAAAAATTTT? NO FUCKING WAY.
Health centers are in most cities and many rural areas. Type in your address and click the 'Find Health Centers' button to find health centers near you. (There are 145 of these in Georgia ALONE.)

From the hospitals and drug companies (drug companies GIVE medicine to poor people):
If you need to see a doctor or go to a hospital and you do not have any medical insurance, you can apply for Medicaid if you qualify. If you do not qualify for Medicaid, your hospital ER must treat you, however, you should ask the hospital if they have a clinic. If not, ask which hospital near you has a clinic. Many hospitals have clinics which will charge you a substantially reduced fee schedule, adjusted for your income. Hospital clinics provide inexpensive medical treatment for people who do not have medical insurance and cannot afford to pay full price. I have seen patients charged as little as $5.00 for surgery performed in a hospital clinic.

If you need continuing treatment over a long period of time, you probably should consider obtaining medical insurance. Medical insurance policies usually have a pre-existing condition clause of either 6 months or 12 months, which means that the policy will not cover your injuries until after either the 6 or 12 month period has elapsed.

If you have already incurred substantial medical bills which you cannot pay, you could consider requesting a bankruptcy lawyer to either call the hospital and negotiate a substantially reduced fee or to file for bankruptcy. If you do consider bankruptcy, you may want to consider it after all medical treatment has been rendered.

More:

Find out about the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA) if you were recently laid off from your job and you had health insurance. The EMTALA Act insists that insurance companies provide continuing health insurance for individuals, at a reduced rate,if they were enrolled in a health plan at work.

Emergency care is a right of every citizen.

Go to the Emergency Room even if you can't afford the health care cost if a medical emergency exists. Hospitals must treat emergency victims although they may turn down non-emergencies.

Go immediately to the hospital billing office when you're released. Very few patients know that you may be able to have the entire bill waived if you don't have a job and no way to pay the health care cost.

Fuck you people who bitch about health care. We are ALREADY fucking paying for poor people to go to the doctor/dentist. I didn't even list Medicaid.

Jesus Christ.

If I hear one more ungrateful, pathetic, non-working mutherfucker bitch about services and charity we provide, I'm going to punch them in the fucking throat.

Don't pick a president that wants us to pay MORE for the losers. 999.

This is the problem with politics in the U.S.

In order to be Republican you have to be:

Pro-life
Anti-gun control
Pro-death penalty
Cut taxes (even if we need the revenue)
Cater to the religious right
Against government regulation regardless of whether or not it's beneficial to society/the environment as a whole.

In order to be a Democrat you have to be:

Pro-choice (even it involves late term abortion)
Pro-union (even if they're ripping us off and totally screw the whole "free market" society concept).
Spend, spend, spend
Raise taxes
Cater to illegal immigrants

I think a Christie/Hillary match off in 2016 would be cool.

Looks like the Supreme Court will decide the Constitutionality of Obama Care prior to the 2012 election. The administration did not request a full review by the appeals court, so the decision will not be delayed until after the election. Should be interesting...

http://www.businessinsurance.com/article...307|74|278#

Snipped:
The Supreme Court has long been expected to have the final word on the legality of the individual mandate (requiring individuals to buy health care or be penalized), a cornerstone of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. A big uncertainty has been over when the court would decide the issue.

The law's fate before the nine-member court, closely divided with a conservative majority and four liberals, could come down to two Republican appointees, Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Anthony Kennedy, legal experts have said.

The law, adopted by Congress in 2010 after a bruising battle, is expected to be a major political issue in the 2012 elections as President Obama seeks another four-year term. All the major Republican presidential candidates oppose it.

The president, a Democrat, has championed the individual mandate as a major accomplishment of his presidency and as a way to try to slow soaring health care costs while expanding coverage to the more than 30 million Americans without it.

The 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, based in Atlanta, ruled 2-1 last month in favor of 26 states and others that challenged the mandate for exceeding the power of Congress.

I'm not commenting (yet) on Obamacare as a whole but I find it interesting that in California, you're required to have automobile insurance (and show proof if you're pulled over). Why is it so different to require someone to have health insurance? You could say that auto insurance is required to protect "the other guy" but similarly, you could argue that health insurance is required to protect the average tax payer from having to pay medical bills for people who have no health insurance.

Some people really can't afford it. I'm not sure I would pay over a thousand a month for health insurance. Why make people have it if there are already places they can go to get medical care?

Only poor people, or really damn cheap people, go to health clinics. I don't mind funding those. Many families live off under 30K a year. Those people can't afford to pay monthly premiums for individual plans (COBRA is expensive as hell).

Obama is being tricky with his "uninsured" people bullshit. Their medical needs are already met at little or no cost to them. That doesn't bother me. Forcing people who can't afford policies to buy them, or making me pay more for my policy so those other folks can have the same insurance, is fucking bullshit.

The problem is charity cases want exactly what working people earn. That is a problem as they don't fucking earn it. That is the main issue. Take your clinics and STFU is how I see it. If you want better, get a damn job. They should be grateful, not asking for more.

I don't understand why people think anyone in this country doesn't have medical/dental care. Impoverished people get better medical care than many working people because they don't have to pay the copays and deductibles that the rest of us have to pay. I think Obamacare will hurt the middle classes by making procedures, copays, deductibles, and premiums way more expensive. Nobody in this country who bothers to fill out a form goes without care. It is a bullshit marketing scheme that stupid people fall for. I wish Americans would wake up and actually pay attention.

My understanding is that Obama claims his plan will cut the spending to fund all of the free health care not currently being paid for by the recipients. It's cutting entitlement spending. Obama estimates people who pay for insurance pay higher premiums to cover the uninsured, higher by $900 annually. He says by pooling health care and offering tax credits it is going to drive down the costs so that those who can't afford it now will be able to afford it under his program.

Critics say it's a tax increase. You have to buy it or pay up to $3,800 per year. The Congressional Budget Office estimates that the Senate's individual mandate will result in new revenues of some $20 billion over 10 years because some people will choose to opt out of ObamaCare—or because they can't afford to buy in, given that other taxes and regulation will make health care more expensive.

For auto insurance, if you drive without it and get caught (it's not being tracked by the government), you pay a fine and you have to get it in order to legally continue driving. If you don't have it and you don't get caught, no one is going to come to collect a penalty. I think that's a difference between the Federal requirement for individual health care and states' requirements for automobile insurance, as I understand it anyway.

I don't want to pool healthcare. Have you ever been to the emergency room? Full of society's rejects. I don't want to have to deal with people who won't bother to take care of themselves. Why should I? Why should I have to sit in a doctor's waiting room with fucking pimps and drug addicts?

Cracker doesn't do socialism. That's EXACTLY what this is.

I laugh that you bothered to quote any figures from Obama's cronies. You realize he makes shit up, right? They lie like mutherfuckers.

Auto insurance protects OTHER people's property. Health insurance only covers individuals that I don't give a fuck if they die. That is the difference. It is a HUGE difference.

People need to think shit out a little more.

All politicians lie or "spin" to accomplish their goals, I think I made it clear that I was citing what was "claimed". I don't know the true figures any more than you do. I doubt those advocating the plan or those denouncing it have a solid idea of the real numbers themselves. I wasn't endorsing Obama's plan. I understand the basics of what both sides claim, based on what they've presented, and the numbers are a big part of their presentation/pitch. Important to consider the quantitative and qualitative parts of any pitch, imo, so I included the numbers that have been widely touted. It's good to laugh.

Yes, I agree that the auto insurance covers other people whereas health insurance covers oneself, an individual responsibility. Supporters of Obama's plan claim that mandatory individual health care does protect others, it protects others from paying higher costs associated with the uninsured who get health care without paying. That is their claim and part of their pitch. Again, it's not an endorsement or agreement from me.

For auto insurance, however, it's not regulated at a Federal level and you get penalized if you get caught driving without it (but you can choose to stop driving or drive without it and not get caught -no penalty in either case). This isn't anyone else's claim, just based on personal experience.

We are thinking this shit out a little more by comparing notes and hearing your opinions (and those of others who weigh in). Smiley_emoticons_smile
