Tipton police have confirmed that a 10-year-old girl may have been abducted in the north-central Indiana county Tuesday night.
Serena “Rene” Weicht , is 4’ to 4’6” tall, 50 pounds, with dark blond short hair. She was last seen wearing a white short-sleeve shirt and plaid shorts. 24-Hour News 8 is working to obtain a photo confirmed to be Serena.
A witness told police at about 8:30 p.m. that she heard a child screaming and saw a silver or gray car speeding away from the area where the screams were coming from, near North and Main streets, about three blocks north of Ind. 28, at about 6:30 p.m. The witness saw a child’s bike on the ground nearby.
Police said there are no parental custody issues. Tipton County Sheriff’s Department, Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department and local fire departments, along with Indiana State Police, had been contacted about in the search. An area resident told 24-Hour News 8 that emergency officials were distributing fliers.
Capt. Gordon Tocco of the Tipton Police Department said an official Amber Alert hadn't been issued immediately because descriptive information was limited, though calls had been sent out through the A Child is Missing Alert organization. An Amber Alert requires that there be enough descriptive information to believe the broadcast will help.
Anyone with information should call 765-675-2111.
