BUSHNELL — A reptile-loving couple accused of failing to protect a toddler who was killed by an 8-foot-6-inch pet python were just sentenced, with Charles "Jason" Darnell and his girlfriend Jaren Hare both receiving 12 years in prison.
Each faced a possible 45 years in prison for manslaughter and child neglect. They turned down a pretrial plea offer that would have capped their prison time at 10 years.
In addition, Darnell, 34, and Hare, 21, each will have to serve five years of probation upon their release from prison. They were sentenced this afternoon by Circuit Judge William "Bud" Hallman in the constriction death of Shaianna Rose Hare, Hare's 2-year-old daughter, who died in her crib.

Twelve years. When will they be eligible for parole?
Even if she serves her full sentence, Jeren Hare will be 33 when she gets out, still young enough to have another passel of kids.
I have to agree with Duchess, involuntary sterilization for this woman.

with good time/gain time, they may get out in about 8 or 9 years.

A woman and her boyfriend, who are serving 12 years in prison after their snake killed the woman's young child, will not get a new sentence.
Jaren Hare and Charles Darnell sought to get their sentences reduced based on a technicality.
A judge denied their request.
Hare's daughter, Shaianna, was strangled by a pet python that got out of its cage in the little girl's room.
