MADISON, Wis. -- Madison police are actively searching for a missing 7-year-old boy.
Aakash Paneru was last seen at 6:30 p.m. Monday at his home in the 400 block of Woodside Terrace, which is on the city’s west side near Midvale Boulevard, according to officials.
"He's known to roam around the neighborhood, so it’s not uncommon for him to be gone for short periods of time. But we obviously have a good level of concern as we move from 11:30 last night until this morning,” said Joel DeSpain, of the Madison Police Department. Police officials said every available officer from the west and south districts has been searching overnight, along with two K9 units. Police also issued two tiers of reverse 911 calls to alert thousands of households in the area.
“Any citizens that have seen him any time after 6:30 last night is new information for us. We’re trying to piece things together,” said DeSpain. “The best plausible scenario for us is that he’s gone somewhere and fallen asleep, and we’ll find him soon. That’d be good news, but at this point, we really don’t know.”
Police describe Paneru as Asian and 3 feet 6 inches tall with black hair. He was last seen wearing a yellow t-shirt and blue jean shorts.
Anyone with information is asked to call Madison Police.

Madison police are combing the west side early Tuesday morning in a search for a missing 7-year-old boy.
Aakash Paneru was last seen near his home in the 400 block of Woodside Terrace at about 6:30 p.m. Monday night.
The boy is Asian American, about 3 feet, 6 inches tall, black hair, wearing a yellow-colored T-shirt, blue jean shorts and red Crocs shoes.
Madison police spokesman Joel DeSpain told madison.com that two reverse 911 calls went out to residents in the neighborhood, which is bordered by Midvale Boulevard, Mineral Point Road, Segoe Road and Tokay Boulevard.
"The first reverse 911 call went out to about 1,300 homes and the second to about 1,000 homes in an expanded area," DeSpain said.
Officers from the west and south districts are looking for the boy, who was last seen playing outside.
"There is legitimate concern for his welfare at this point," DeSpain told madison.com.
Police dogs are also being used in the search.
Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Aakash Paneru is asked to call 911.
