Employee Vern Johnson said the man was alone.

"I didn't realize I'd seen anything until a policeman came in, looked at our videotape and he showed me a man walking through the front door and said ‘that is our suspect,'" Johnson told CTV News.

Police have not confirmed that the man in the video from Alberta is Hopley. On Friday, they were still pursuing several leads across B.C.

Responding to reports from the night before, Moskaluk also denied reports that police have video evidence showing the missing boy and Hopley together.

Moskaluk said that while police have received tips about "reported sightings" of both the boy and Hopley, "These are all they are at this time, until you hear from the investigative unit that we have a confirmed sighting."

Moskaluk also said the RCMP's major crimes unit searched Hopley's last known residence.

Orville Sheets said police searched the trailer that he rents to Hopley. In video taken at the trailer, police could be seen taking undisclosed items away in brown paper bags.

the fact is, unless he is totally oblivious and lives in a cave, this guy knows he is being sought. if he didn't take the child, he should or would have come forward by now. however, he has been described as 'borderline retarded' by his lawyer.

SPARWOOD, B.C. – The family of missing Kienan Hebert begged the man responsible to bring the child home, as police confirmed the toddler was abducted Saturday.

“We’re speaking to whoever has Kienan right now. We’re just asking,
please bring Kienen to a safe place right now, like a gas station or a
store parking lot,” said father Paul Hebert, as the boy’s mother,
Tammy, cried.

“Walk away. We just want him safe.”

B.C. RCMP Cpl. Dan Moskaluk confirmed that the boy was abducted in a news conference on Saturday, destroying the family’s earlier hopes
that the toddler had wandered away in his sleep.

Further, Moskaluk said an earlier abduction attempt was made on
another child on Wednesday morning, just before Kienan disappeared.
Kienan has now been missing for three days. The family addressed the
abductor directly through the media. Facing half a dozen cameras, they
spoke while sitting in a makeshift white tent set up on a gravel lot
outside the Sparwood fire hall, about a kilometer from where Kienan
disappeared on Wednesday.

“As you know and we know, Kienan can’t speak,” Hebert said. “He can’t
tell us who you are. This is your chance, right now, to get away.”
Hundreds of search and rescue volunteers have found no trace of the
boy, nor of his three blankets.

LC: Nothing about the situation is good, of course. But if a 3 year old child had wandered off and not been found, would the chance of survival 3 days later likely be less than if he was abducted? Probably depends on the abductor and his/her intentions, just wondering about the odds from LE experience.

I so hope this little cutie is still alive and gets returned safely. Doesn't sound like LE indicated whether the previous abduction attempt was by Hopley or not.

i hate stats and always try to maintain hope. even when it's unrealistic. much depends on terrain and wildlife, but some stat says 3 days in the wild a child that age might survive is a 70% probability.

but LE stats re: a child that age kidnapped, usually for sexual purposes, is usually killed within first few hours.

there is a small hope here that hopley wants to keep the child as a pet or as his own. or for sex.

and i should have said any little kid, not just that age, kidnapped for sex, is usually dead within hours. they get their instant gratification then panic and dispose of the "evidence".

I agree I hate stats, but unfortunately they are usually right. Thanks for the info LC. Your knowledge is highly regarded, at least by me. (where is that kiss ass smilie)

In this case though, doesn't it sound like the suspect wanted a play-mate he could keep for a while? I don't believe that he is borderline retarded, but more likely a "personality disorder". It seems like his intelligence is too high for a "retarded" classification. He has managed to live off of next to nothing in terms of a real income, with stealing what he wants, when he wants it.

Also I read a few different stories from the landlord. Were they both living in the trailer? Or, was the trailer on a property that also had a "house" that the landlord lived in and the suspect had a room?? Using "house
as a broad description of the dwelling that the men occupied.

The Amber Alert for 3-year old Kienan Hebert has been cancelled.
Hebert has been missing from his Sparwood home since Wednesday morning.
Police have yet to release more information.
Stay tuned to CKNW News-Talk 980 for more developments as they break.

Kienan Hebert has been returned home. RCMP say the toddler was taken to the family home between 2am and 215PST today. Police say he appears to be in good health. They will release more details later on this morning. We will have the latest when it becomes available.

Three-year-old Kienan Hebert has been found alive and safely returned to his Sparwood B.C. home, RCMP Cpl. Dan Moskaluk announced early Sunday morning.

Moskaluk confirmed with a post on his Twitter account that a "suspect" returned the boy at around 3 a.m. local time.
