Bellevue police have scheduled a briefing for 3:30 this afternoon to update the media on the investigation into the Nov. 6 disappearance of Sky Metalwala.

Police have been holding regular briefings on the case, although they did not hold briefings on Wednesday or Thursday. It’s unclear whether there are any new developments in the case, although some media outlets reported police yesterday apparently took a drive in the car in which the boy was reportedly last seen.

The case has baffled police from the start, as much because of the actions of Sky’s mother as the circumstances surrounding her son’s disappearance.

BELLEVUE, Wash. -- More photos of a missing 2-year-old Bellevue boy and his mother were released by authorities and appeared online Friday.

Bellevue Police compiled about a dozen recent photos of Sky Metalwala and Julia Biryukova from the days leading up to Sky's disappearance. Investigators said they hope the new pictures will help people who may have seen the family remember more specific details.

Images of Sky show him with a more recent hairstyle. Biryukova is shown in surveillance photos from an unknown store.

The images of Biryukova show her with darker hair, as well as a gray sweatsuit that detectives believe she may have been wearing on Sunday, November 6, when Sky was last seen.

"This is the woman that was out there Sunday morning with her child," said Major Mike Johnson with the Bellevue Police Department, gesturing toward a storyboard of photos. "She does look considerably different [than on social media sites]."

Johnson said Biryukova has still not been interviewed by police since Sky was first reported missing.

"We have continued to reach out and ask for information from Sky's mother, as recently as today and through her attorney," said Johnson. "But unfortunately we have yet to get any information."

Speaking to questions that continue to swirl over why police haven't brought Biryukova in for questioning, despite the appearance of odd behavior, Johnson said police were acting strategically.

"It's a tactical, strategic, legal decision that's something we're considering, but not something we're ready to pull the trigger on yet," he said.

Johnson said police had tried to contact Biryukova through her attorney Friday morning but were unsuccessful, and were trying again as the news conference was taking place.

He allowed that some of Biryukova's "actions" the day of Metalwala's disappearance could be grounds for an arrest, but said police concern right now is to find Sky.

The Bellevue Police investigation of the 75 acre park at 7:00 A.M. Saturday morning with the help of King County Search & Rescue and the Kirkland Police Department.

KIRKLAND, Wash. - Police searching for a missing toddler found several items of interest Saturday while combing through a Kirkland park for evidence - but it's not yet clear if those items are related to the case, officials said.

Crime scene investigators uncovered several items that are being sent in for analysis but warn there are still no signs of missing 2-year-old Sky Metalwala, whose mother claims he disappeared while she walked to get gas for her car.

The items of interest were found Saturday during a search of Watershed Park in Kirkland - and one discovery was important enough to call in a forensics team.

"They found something of interest," said Carla Iafrate of the Bellevue Police Department. "We called out our CSI investigators, they showed up and looked at the items."

The search teams used rakes and shovels - a potentially grim indicator of what crews were doing in their search for Sky.

"I think that's just standard equipment for any search and rescue," said Iafrate. "There's a lot of leaves, it's pretty wet and damp. There's a lot of rabbit burrows, so the land is soft back there."

Teams closed the park to the public and worked through the day and into the night - then called in crime scene specialists when they stumbled upon possible evidence in the case.

Sky Metalwala's father says his son may have been missing for months.
Solomon Metalwala made the stunning remarks as KIRO 7 crews showed him new surveillance pictures of Sky's mother, Julia Biryukova, with darker hair and a sweatsuit. Police released the photos Friday, hoping to spark new leads.

"I'm happy of that," Solomon said of the new photos.

He was eager to see the photographs police released, but then showed KIRO 7's Alison Grande a photograph that has him questioning how long Sky has been gone.

"This is not Sky; this is Maile," Solomon said, referencing the photo below, which was posted to Biryukova's Flickr page Thursday:

Solomon and his attorney said they think Biryukova might be passing off pictures of Maile, the couple's daughter, as Sky.

"I'm mad, I'm very upset that Julia would be doing this -- so extreme to put her own daughter in Sky's clothes," Solomon Metalwala said. "I'm very upset. I would ask anyone who has seen Sky in the last 10 months to please come forward and say (for example), 'I saw Sky in April, I saw Sky in June.'"

Julia Biryukova, or someone with access to her e-mail account, took time away from posting happy family photos online, to write to an ABC news reporter about her missing son, Sky Metalwala. Her message: I didn't do it. Also: My "sadistic Muslim" ex did do it.

ABC reporter Neal Karlinsky says he contacted Biryukova through an e-mail address known to belong to the her. The responses obviously can't be 100 percent confirmed as hers, as opposed to a family members or other friend with access to the account (not that most people share e-mail accounts these days), but Biryukova's ex-husband Solomon Metalwala says the messages "sound like her."

Speaking of the ex husband, here's Biryukova's response to a question about what she thinks of his suggestion that she had something to do with Sky's disappearance.

"Mr. Karlinsky, My former husband is a sadistic Muslim Pakistani. No one has any idea. This is all too difficult. Kindly, Julia."

Biryukova's ex-husband is Pakistani. He's not, however, a Muslim.

But by all means, Ms. Biryukova, carry on:

"My attorney has forbid me from speaking about the ongoing investigation. My former husband's allegations are without merit. Solomon is deceptive."

Sky's mom also flatly denied having any part of her son's disappearance and claimed to be "praying to Jesus on my knees night and day for my Sky."

When asked if she believes her ex played a part in the boy's disappearance, she responded "yes."

Interesting the news last night was saying the items they found in the park area that was searched this weekend were not related to sky. They also mentioned the pictures she posted but if those are not even sky that is going to be sad and disgusting! I live in the area and i definitely feel the same way. I am kind of glad i don't know specifically where she lives because i have a feeling i would be not able to withhold myself from driving by more than i probably should! I know i would definitely make the excuse every time i went in that direction which is almost daily!
