My mom used to beat the living shit out of us with a belt, yes it sucked. I only had to swat mine a couple of times and had them paper trained. I figured I couldn't fuk it up worse than I had it so what the hell, I treated my kids like they had brains and what do you know? It worked

All kids ae different. The little one has been spanked 2 times (9), that's not bad odds.
The bigger ones had to have a few reminders in middle school and high school. If I get a call at work, you better have a good fucking story. I don't like any punishments, but you can't let some shit go because you are the parent. It's on you. I never had to deal with any major dysfunctions because I nip it in the bud. I would personally rather get a tap on the ass than get bitched at or lectured for two hours. I don't ever want my kids to think, "OMG, STFU."

I never spanked my niece or nephew when raising them, but so many times I wanted to and sometimes wonder if I should have. My dad spanked us when we were bad and it hurt; it scared us and we avoided being bad out of fear (or learned to hide bad deeds at all costs). It wasn't good for building self esteem, but it was effective in keeping us out of major trouble into the teenage years and I don't think self-esteem was part of the parental units' vocabulary when we were growing up. As an adult, it mattered a lot to me that the children in my care did not feel fearful much of the time - worried that they might become fearful adults who just do what they are told without challenge.
They are in their early 20s now and definitely don't do as they are told without challenge. Independent thinkers and not afraid of much. But, they definitely lack self discipline and respect for others at times, though they are generally good funny people and I'm so proud of them. I could have been firmer and more effective with my words and other non-physical forms of discipline (time out, restriction, guilt...). Or, maybe a few spankings and a little fear when they really acted out would have benefitted them?

Kids don't live in fear if you pop them on the ass a few times when they do something dangerous or completely disrespectful. Spanking, two or three licks, is not a beating. Some kids never act out. Some kids do. Having one policy to cover every single situation, and every child, doesn't work.
I worked with POS kids that had no respect for themselves, their parents, or others. I refuse to have kids like that myself. People are afraid to be parents now. They want to be friends instead. Ask Maytee how that works out IRL.

A majority of people are raising stupid, disrespectful kids. You only have to look at graduation rates, crime rates, and the lowered IQ of this country to see that. As long as they aren't my kids, Cracker doesn't give a shit. I don't have to deal with the little fuckers. Cracker doesn't care to get the liberal seal of approval. I think y'all are idiots for the most part.

Granted I don't really know Cracker but I think she's a single parent who owns her own home who has kids that aren't in jail and are actually productive members of society (we'll see about the youngest), she strikes me as intelligent (most of the time...until she disagrees with me), she's articulate, has a good job and basically is a strong, independent woman... Yep...gonna start beating the kids. Commando Cunt Queen

I said a few licks. That isn't anger, that is punishment- controlled punishment. You can project your stereotypes on me if you wish, no matter to Cracker. The thing I am most proud of is my grown kids telling others they had a happy childhood. They knew the boundaries. Sometimes they tested the boundaries. The boundaries were consistently enforced. That makes kids feel safe. Some kids are docile and never need correction. Some kids are independent thinkers and need a little more handling. I was never afraid to make my kids do the right things until they internalized that concept. Mine were smart enough to play the system if I let them. I didn't. I think people who hit little kids are monsters. Never hit a little kid. That is sickening to me. Corporal punishment should only be used as a last resort AFTER kids are old enough to know better (school age). You should be ashamed for hitting a four year old. "No, no, no" until you are old enough to be out of the house at school all day. What the hell is wrong with you?

I consider spankings to be fear-based discpline; the goal is to discourage the child from repeating the same behavior because they are afraid of being hit (even if it's not that hard). I agree not all children react the same way to any form of discipline and there is no one-size-fits-all solution. Maybe spankings are the most effective solution for some parents and some children under some conditions; probably so. I think physical discipline should be a last resort if it's going to be used, but I never used it. Not because I think swats/spanks are wrong for everyone or that every child that's spanked will be ruled by fear to some degree, but because I didn't want my family to fear being hit. They mostly feared disappointing me instead (though sometimes in their early teens they didn't give a shit about disappointing me at all). When they were toddlers, a yell or a very harsh look worked well because it was rare and they took note. I can think of a few times when they were a little older that a good spanking might have been more effective than restriction, debate or guilt; just couldn't do it. But, not my place to consider anyone else wrong for doing so if it wasn't abusive and the child was told why what they did was wrong and why they were being swatted/spanked (with very little physical pain involved).

Forget our kids or even our generation, do you think your parents or grandparents were ever spanked? Or maybe they encountered some corporal discipline at school? These were the folks that went to war in WWI and WWII, vietnam etc. Were they less than kids you see today wearing baggy pants and sporting fucking piercings everywhere? They were the "greatest" generation. Imagine if the draft were instituted today. Ha! The ACLU would be bailing draftees out left and right. Pffft. I don't agree with beating (at all) but I totally think we're raising kids that are pussies (in some respects) compared to their ancestors. They're more book smart but have very little understanding of discipline. Commando Cunt Queen

Even if you raise your own kids to behave, not all their friends were raised that way. There will be bad influences. A little inspiration helps kids make the right decision when you aren't around.

I think my mom may have swatted me on the butt a few times and my dad never did anything other than raise his voice which was enough to scare me straight. The only time I was beat with a paddle was by the dyke PE coach in my elementry school, go figure. I don't even remember what I did, but I doubt it was worthy of getting a beat down by a large she-male.

Lucky for me it was the pe coach and not the principal, he would beat the kids like they were house niggers.

Geez! My principal was a bigfoot lookin' bitch with a miget husband. She was suck a bitch and I'm glad I didn't have to see her often. We were so glad when she was replaced. She went to a town with mostly blacks and I' m sure she is going through hell. I love it! I still hate that lady. She gave me the willies just seeing her ass.
