DETROIT - Bob Bashara has been served a personal protection order from his alleged mistress.

Rachel Gillett's attorney said she is scared for her life.

Gillett wants Bob Bashara to stay away: No talking, no texting, no visiting or emailing.

"It's pretty much Rachel's way of telling the court, look, I'm afraid of this guy," said her attorney, Doraid Elder. Elder filed the petition for a personal protection order on Thursday.

"She's petrified. She just wants him to leave her alone and hasn't done that," Elder said.

The attorney says [COLOR="Blue"]Gillett had a relationship with Bob Bashara for three years and never knew the Grosse Pointe Park man was married.[/COLOR]

"Rachel though that for the longest time Bob was divorced", Elder said.

Elder said reality hit Gillett after Bob's wife, Jane Bashara, was killed and Bob spoke out to the media saying he lost his best friend and soul mate.

"She realized that he was someone that she did not know who he is," Elder said. "She realized this guy lied to her, manipulated her. He was living two lives and she's petrified."

Breaking off the relationship after the murder, Gillett said she tried to distance herself from Bob but he refused to take no for an answer. She says he has made several attempts to contact her even though he was told to stay away.

"He told her, 'Look, I know I shouldn't be doing this. I'm gonna get in trouble for it,'" Elder said.
Bob Bashara has been called a person of interest in his wife's murder investigation. A case is building against him. Elder said Gillett could be a key witness and she is scared for her life.

"If Rachel isn't around that can be to Bob's benefit and she is petrified of this," Elder said.

Local 4 legal expert Todd Flood said the PPO is bad for Bob.

Gillett is pleading with a judge to keep Bashara away.

Rachel Gillett wrote a letter to her local judge asking for a personal protection order against her reputed lover Bob Bashara.

"I'm very concerned about my safety," Gillett writes.

"I feel very bad for Rachel," said her attorney Doraid Elder. "She's really a victim of manipulation and lies."

After Bob Bashara's wife, Jane Bashara, was killed, Gillett says she realized "(Bob) is much more of a danger to me than I ever imagined before and I am terrified he will hurt me."

Elder said Gillett has been cooperating with law enforcement and could be a key witness against Bob Bashara who has been called a person of interest in his wife's murder investigation.

"If Rachel isn't around then that can be to Bob's benefit and she's petrified of this," Elder said.

After telling Bob through his attorney, David Griem, to leave her alone, Gillett says Bob has not stopped for one instance banging on her front door.

"A neighbor that lives near Rachel heard some pounding on a door and looked out there and saw Bob trying to gain entry into Rachel's house," Elder said.

According to documents, Gillett became frightened after Bob left her a crucifix made of palm leaf inside her mailbox. It was something he had given her the last three years of their relationship.

Gillett discovered the cross as she talked with an investigator.

"She grabbed the mail while she was talking to him and she found it and she gasped," Elder said.

Gillett ends her plea to the judge as succinct as she began, writing, " ... because he won't leave me alone now I am terrified of what he will do."

On "MOJO in the morning" .. her "friend" was saying that she knew .. then she broke off with him .. then he told her he was divorced and they got together again .. and ONLY recently (short before the murder) she found out that he wasn't divorced ... something like that

Bob Bashara's former alleged mistress files protection order, lawyer says

... David Griem, Bob Bashara’s attorney, said this afternoon that he hasn’t seen the filing, but was made aware of it when a member of the local media called.

During an interview with the Free Press in February, Bob Bashara, who was named a person of interest in his wife’s death after failing a polygraph examination, denied cheating on his wife.

In a later interview on “Good Morning America,” Bob Bashara said that he and his wife had a “very good, open relationship.”

Griem said, to his knowledge, Bob Bashara has not been in contact with his alleged former mistress, Rachel Gillett.

“I would be very disappointed if he has been in contact with Rachel Gillett,” Griem said, adding he has advised his client not to contact anyone. “So if he has been in contact with her, it’s directly in opposite to my directions to him.”

Asked whether he was surprised by the PPO, Griem said “shocked is a better word.”

Griem said he told Bob Bashara to accept service if someone attempts to serve him with the PPO.

“I can tell you that he will not be ducking service,” Griem said.

Jane Bashara’s family denounced the claim that she and her husband had an open relationship....

Report: Alleged Bashara Mistress Wants Protection

... Attorney David Grim said his client has not kept in touched with his former girlfriend.

“My client has not been in contact with her. We have not seen the proposed personal protection order,” Grim told WWJ Newsradio 950.

Grim said the woman, Rachel Gillette, may be reacting to information his office has developed.


“Our investigators have developed several persons of interest in our search for the truth,” said Grim. “I would indicate to you that Rachel Gillette is one of those persons of interest that we have developed.”

Grim added that he has seen no evidence that Gillette has grounds for a PPO.

“Anybody can walk in, make allegations and attempt to get a personal protection order,” he said....

... "Knowing Bob is a No. 1 suspect in his wife's murder, (Gillett) is petrified. He's not the same individual she thought she knew," Elder said. "She is a potential witness if she's called at a trial. If he is leading a double life they can't prove it without her testimony. If she's gone, Bob benefits from it."

Elder said Gillett and Bashara dated for several years, but the whole time, he claims, Bashara told Gillett that he and Jane had been separated and were divorcing. Within the last six months, Elder added, Bashara allegedly told Gillett that the divorce was final and at one point, they were shopping for homes together.

But Gillett attempted to end her contact with Bashara, after his wife's body was found Jan. 25 inside her SUV in an alley near Seven Mile in Detroit, Elder said.

Even so, Bashara allegedly continued to reach out to Gillett with anonymous phone calls and even placed a crucifix of palm leaves in her mailbox on Easter weekend and, on another occasion, left an envelope with his handwriting containing unspecified documents.

Elder said a circuit judge approved the protection request. If he chooses, Bashara can file a motion contesting it.

Handyman Joseph Gentz was arraigned in March on charges of first-degree murder and conspiracy in her killing. The St. Clair Shores man allegedly told investigators on multiple occasions that Robert Bashara paid him to kill her. The conspiracy charge means prosecutors believe Gentz did not act alone, but no one else has yet been charged in the case.

A hearing on Gentz' competency is scheduled for May 4.

Griem has commissioned private investigators to examine the case on behalf of Bashara, and they have developed several persons of interest "in our search for the truth."

"I would indicate to you that Rachel Gillett is one of those persons of interest we have developed," he said. "There's a theory both in the sport of football and life in general that sometimes the best defense is a good offense. We all know Joseph Gentz is a proponent of that theory…it appears Rachel Gillett, like Joseph Gentz, is also a proponent that the best defense is a good offense."

... Griem said he questions the timing of the order and Gillett’s motive, adding that he’s examining her role in the case. He said his understanding was that the communications were going in the other direction: Gillett contacting Bob Bashara.

Attorney Doraid Elder, who is representing Gillett, said he contacted Griem about Bashara’s attempts to reach his client. He said Griem “called back saying he was very grateful,” and that the efforts would stop.

Griem, though, said: “The conversations were to the effect that our two clients should not be having contact with each other with this ongoing criminal investigation and that both of us should warn our clients that they should not be talking to each other, texting each other, sending carrier pigeons back and forth.”...

The Macomb Daily reported in February that Gillett was fired from her job at Wayne State University after she left work on Jan. 25 — the day Jane Bashara’s body was discovered in a Detroit alley — and never returned. A number of reports have suggested Gillett and Bashara led a secret sex life in Detroit’s S&M underground scene and also traveled out of state together. Bashara has referred to her as a friend...

Bashara was seeing her during his marriage to Jane Bashara up until Jane's murder earlier this year. That's when Rachel says she broke it off. But it seems Bob can't take a hint. Grosse Pointe Farms, MI (My TV20 News at 10) -- Rachel Gillett, the alleged former lover of Bob Bashara, the husband of murdered marketing exec Jane Bashara and the main person of interest in her death, was granted a personal protection.

Gillett says Bashara has been calling, writing her letters and stopping by her home unannounced. She claims she fears for her life and she does not want him to have any contact with her.

Alleged Bashara mistress obtains protection order against him

Robert Bashara’s alleged mistress, Rachel Gillett, now says she’s afraid for her life of the man she once loved.

On April 26, Gillett was granted a personal protection order ex parte in Wayne County’s Third Circuit Court against Bashara. The order forbids Bashara from contacting, following or visiting Gillett, and prevents him from legally purchasing or owning a gun.

In documents filed by her attorney, Doraid Elder, Gillett says that she had a three-year relationship with Bashara, during which time she “tried several times to break up with him.” Bashara has stalked her “at home and at work,” she charges in the PPO. Elder said Gillett met Bashara online.

When she learned that Bashara’s wife, Jane Bashara, had been discovered strangled in her vehicle Jan. 25, Gillett’s concerns about her former lover skyrocketed...

...“Rachel is a victim of Bob Bashara’s lies and deceit. … She is a very sincere person and would never have been involved with him if she knew he was in a solid marriage,” Elder said.

The attorney said Bashara told Gillett his relationship with his wife was “on the rocks” and he was getting a divorce. At one point, Elder said Bashara even told Gillett the divorce had been finalized. But things changed when Gillett asked to see the divorce papers. Not wanting to interfere with the ongoing investigation, Elder declined to say when his client first asked Bashara about seeing proof of his alleged divorce...

...Now living in an undisclosed location, Elder said Gillett is taking extra precautions for her safety.

“There’s anxiety every time she hears a knock at the door, every time she goes out, every time she leaves the house,” he said.

Bashara’s attorney, David Griem, could not be reached before press time for comment.
