Like the "amateur ideologies" of the American basketball "dream teams"?
Wake up and small what you are shovelling.
I do not understand how a professional basketball player can be in the olympics. That's just wrong.

Doesn't it date back to the days when the Soviet Union would send their professionals to the Olympics?
In '92 (basically as the USSR was dissolving) it had already been determined that the U.S. was going to send their NBA players to compete.
I think that was the impetus for the Dream Team.

It was that and the fact that the NBA had begun to seriously scout other countries for talent, which would then return home to represent their own countries in olympic games. That ship had already sailed...

I truly can't stand this news organization.
Fox News had one burning question to raise after Gabby Douglas' gold medal performance at the women's gymnastics individual all-around competition in London: how is the athlete showing her patriotism if her uniform lacks stars and stripes?
On last week's "America Live," guest-host Alisyn Camerota discussed how "some folks" noticed that the "famous flag-styled outfits" of Olympics past were replaced by "yellow shirts, grey track suits and pink leotards" at the London games. Camerota and her guest, Sirius/XM radio host David Webb, took particular focus on Douglas' outfit.
"You know, Gabby had that great moment, and everyone was so excited, and she's in hot pink -- and that's her prerogative," Camerota said. Webb, who hosts a program on Sirius/XM's "Patriot" channel, wondered, "What's wrong with showing some pride?" He likened the uniform choice to a "kind of soft anti-American feeling that Americans can't show their exceptionalism." Camerota pointed out how other nations, like China, wore nationalistic colors.
"We're a very nationalistic nation," Webb said of America. "But we've also lost over time that jingoistic feeling."

I don't really have any less American pride because they're wearing pink, but let's be honest. I didn't do shit but change the channel to watch. That girl and her teammates did all the work. Wasn't Michael Phelps wearing a black speedo? Why aren't they complaining that he didn't have a stripey ass and stars on his dick?

She's also getting criticized on how she wears her hair. HER HAIR?!?! Because that has so much to do with how she performs as a gymnast.

Yeah....because fuck aerodynamics. Male swimmers shouldn't shave their body hair off either.

Don't know if any of you watched, but the men's and women's 100 meters were about as good as the Olympics can get, IMO.
Those are some amazingly fast people.
Bolt pulled away from the pack at 50 meters and again showed he's the Fastest Man on the Planet. He goes for gold in the 200 on Thursday. I don't think he can be beaten.
P.S. Anyone see the Dominican runner who won the 400m on the podium last night for his medal ceremony? Bawling like a baby (thinking of his grandmother, apparently). So emotional. Great TV and what the Olympics are really all about.

I like Bolt. I saw him doing an interview and when the reporter kept on going when they started playing the National Anthem for our athletes on the podium, he cut her off in mid-sentence and turned around to show his respect for the medal winners.
She didn't have any choice but to do the same, but it looked like it pissed her off.

He's got a very fun personality.
Very easy to like him.
I'm pulling for him in the 200.

I've been spending a couple hours a night watching it with my boy, and it has been a damn fine event. Not too over-the-top with sob type stories, lots of real drama and close finishes, and more than a few cheer worthy moments. We have thoroughly enjoyed it and NBC has done a very good job of not overglossing it. Loved the girls' gymnastics too. Those kids kick ass.
