The supposed bounty on Zimmerman's head was from 16 months ago.
No one with a half a brain believed that the New Black Panthers could actually pay up the $10,000 they promised, much less believed that the New Black Panthers could solicit $1 million towards an increased bounty from the high-profile wealthy. An opportunity to get imprisoned for conspiring in a publicly advertised murder-for-hire scheme isn't something that celebrities and influential money-makers are gonna jump at. IMO. If the New Black Panthers had really possessed the means and motive to have George Zimmerman taken out prior to his arrest, a professional hit man could have been hired for less. That video and its message were cheap inflammatory publicity stunts that didn't fool many. Now, it's primarily a group of conservative morons and those who believe their bullshit that are trolling the uninformed and race-baiting with the old video; falsely proclaiming it to be a reaction to the verdict and trying to incite/prolong cries against the (perceived) persecution of George Zimmerman - their cause. And, while there have been some protestors that acted like vandals and dip shits, there have been no violent riots across the land. Just US citizens exercising their first amendment rights to freedom of speech, expression and peaceful public assembly. The George Zimmerman verdict is not a catalyst for Apocalypse, now or ever. No matter how badly some seem to wanna make it so. Helter Skelter's gonna have to wait. IMO.

It says on BBC news that protests against the verdict are under way in “dozens” of American cities.
The protestors are calling for federal charges to be brought against Georgie porgie pudding and pie. The golden child (obama, for it is he!) Admitted many black men in the US experienced racial profiling.

Of course your guilty of it, everyone is whether they admit to it or not. The ones that don't do it are victims. Its a normal part of being human, every one of us makes a judgment upon seeing someone; DO I trust that guy, SHe looks nice, WTF is up wit that one? Oh Hell No... Every one does it, Profiling is not a bad thing.

I try really hard not to judge people by how they look. I can admit I am not always successful. Like at the nail salon. This lady about my age had on short shorts, high heeled sandals, and a tank top. Tons of make up and super long nails painted orange. I'm sure she is super nice but she looked like a hussy. She is too old to walk around dressed like that. Not to mention she was borderline too big for her outfit. She could be a virgin for all I know but she doesn't give that impression.

Like I said in the Fight Club thread the other day, what's really got blacks up in arms is the fact that George knowingly profiled a black unarmed teenager, and was able to get away with it. I understand their frustration, but profiling at this point in time is not illegal. The general response from those who hate Zimmerman is that he profiled/followed and then when times got tough, he pussied out and used his gun. Fair enough. All he's guilty of though is being a pussy. A jury aquitted him and I'm finding it hard to believe that the President/AG is trying to pursue criminal charges against him.

I don't hate George, I don't hate anyone. I do find him to be a pathetic excuse for a man. I lay the blame for T's death firmly at his feet, he bears responsibility for the entire fiasco, he got the ball rolling, first by following T in his vehicle and then by following him on foot. Nothing is going to come of the government pursuing charges. I think they are voicing their opinions. Sucks that they would choose to given their titles.

I have a different understanding of what most are protesting, MS. My inference from most of the sentiments that I've heard/read from protestors, blacks and non-blacks alike, is that George Zimmerman killed Trayvon Martin because of the irresponsible actions he took as a result of profiling the teen. It's getting away with the "killing" part that they're objecting to, not so much the profiling part. If Zimmerman had profiled Trayvon, called NE911, and let the police handle it, I don't believe anyone would be protesting that Zimmerman had "profiled" Trayvon if that call was accessible in the public domain and Trayvon was still alive. JMO. IMO, the Fed won't pursue civil rights violations and/or hate crime charges against Zimmerman. I think that they've been pressured to review the case again and so they are, but there are no valid charges there to be filed.

I disagree. I think the statement, 'These punks always get away' makes the profiling rather obvious. He then 'got away with' all of it, from the profiling to the killing. That's what I was trying to say.

Profiling? Don't both of you really mean racial stereotyping? As far as I know, an ordinary citizen is NOT prohibited from racially stereotyping -or- "profiling" another person. And "Punks", MS . . . that word must mean "nigger" to you. To me, it is a word without color ('race', if you prefer). "George . . . knowingly profiled a black unarmed teenager . . ." Really, Spy? Tubbie knew Skittles was unarmed? Too bad the prosecution didn't have that nugget at trial. The law, when written, was color blind. It remains so.

I didn't suggest that profiling wasn't obvious, though I may disagree with the nature of the profiling. I don't see any clear disagreement. Seems we're both of the opinion that people aren't protesting because they believe that Zimmerman profiled Trayvon and got away it. People are instead protesting because they believe that Zimmerman was unjustified in killing Trayvon, after having wrongly profiled him, and got away with it. Will the protests spur a review of some flawed laws or be the catalyst for serious race relations discussions aimed at improvements? Seems unlikely, but maybe some good will come of them. Hope so.

In any event, I've never suggested that citizens' profiling was illegal or prohibited. I do think it's obvious that George assumed Trayvon was a "criminal/suspect" because Trayvon matched the profile of those fucking punk assholes who'd always gotten away in the past. IMO, that profiling is clear from George's own words, in evidence. IDK, Tiki. If there'd been break-ins in the neighborhood carried out almost exclusively by Chinese punks, George Zimmerman may well have profiled Xian Chang in the same manner, under the same circumstances, as he did Trayvon Martin that night. Impossible for me to know.

I can't read the protesters' minds, but I'm listening to their words. From what I've heard/read, many of the protesters feel that George Zimmerman racially profiled Trayvon Martin. Had Trayvon not been black, he'd still be alive. They want a message sent, via civil rights violation charges or some other means, to minimize such killings in the future. Others feel that some laws allow people to too easily target or profile anyone, kill them, and not be held accountable. They want to see the laws reviewed and possibly revised. P.s. I've seen a couple of those stupid t-shirts with George in the cross-hairs, but I haven't heard protesters demanding death to Zimmerman. Doesn't mean there aren't some extremists who are doing so, I just haven't heard/read them personally. |
