I never liked their music all that much but they really got their asses kicked by disco backlash. Almost makes you feel sorry for them, but we chew up and shit out our icons in every generation.

(CNN) -- Levon Helm, drummer and backbone of The Band, is in the final stages of cancer, his family said Tuesday.
"Please send your prayers and love to him as he makes his way through this part of his journey," his wife, Sandy, and daughter Amy wrote in a message posted to the artist's website. "Thank you fans and music lovers who have made his life so filled with joy and celebration ... he has loved nothing more than to play, to fill the room up with music, lay down the back beat, and make the people dance! He did it every time he took the stage," they said. During an induction speech Saturday at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Helm's former bandmate Robbie Robertson offered his "prayers and love" for the drummer. Born in Elaine, Arkansas, in 1940, the son of a cotton farmer, Helm rose to fame in the late 1960s and 1970s as a member of The Band, a folk rock group. His soulful, drawling vocals highlighted many of the group's hit recordings, such as "The Weight," "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down," and "Up on Cripple Creek." Helm, 71, was diagnosed with throat cancer in 1998. He fell on hard times as cancer took his voice and medical bills threatened his house.

There is nothing wrong with being gay. But if you are not gay, it's not nice for someone to call you gay when you are not. Are we all clear.
Robin Gibb is not gay.

Men at Work multi-instrumentalist Greg Ham was found dead in his Melbourne home today, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.
Police were called in to investigate Ham’s mysterious death after a pair of concerned friends let themselves into the 58-year-old musician’s house, where he lived alone. “There are a number of unexplained aspects to it which has caused our attendance here today,” homicide detective Shane O’Connell told reporters. ”And we’re assisting the local detectives to determine what has occurred.” Colin Hay, frontman of the Grammy-winning Australian group, released a statement lamenting the passing of his bandmate, who may be most remembered for contributing the distinct flute melody on the group’s 1982 hit “Down Under,” which topped charts around the world

yes this has been all over the news here today and yesterday afternoon. When the news came through, it was first reported just as a man found dead. Then it came through who it was.
He was much loved because he was such a jovial fun larrikin. Greatly missed, hugely sad. Lots of people devastated here. It reminds me of when Paul Hester died. The drummer from Crowded House. He was much much loved, he was funny and jovial same sort of character. These type of people are also deeply sensitive and affected by circumstances in their lives.
