AUBURN, Ala. – The police chief in the Alabama university city of Auburn said authorities responded during the night to a report of multiple gunshot victims at an apartment complex, but he released no immediate information as the building dawned Sunday cordoned in yellow tape.
Auburn Police Chief Tommy Dawson told the Opelika-Auburn News that police answered the report of multiple shooting victims on Saturday night but he had no immediate comment on what happened or whether anyone was in custody. News photographs showed several emergency vehicles had converged overnight around the University Heights apartment complex where reports indicated a number of students who attend Auburn University typically reside. At dawn Sunday, an Associated Press reporter at the scene said several uniformed law enforcement officers were standing about a disaster relief trailer parked at the building's entrance, which appeared to be a sort of command center, and all was quiet as some bystanders milled about. An Auburn police dispatcher contacted by The Associated Press said early Sunday she had no immediate information to release. Police did not immediately return repeated telephone messages seeking comment. A local coroner's office also said it had no information on the situation to immediately give out. It is sad. Story's pretty slim right now. If it really did all go down as a result of a fight over a woman, half expecting to see Gloria Allred rep the woman and hit the media to help educate the public that jealousy is bad.

FBI, US Marshals and local police in. DO NOT APPROACH priors: AL.com AUBURN, Alabama -- Desmonte Demontez Leonard, the 22-year-old Montgomery man at the center of law enforcement manhunt for his role in a mass shooting at an Auburn apartment complex, has been arrested twice on gun charges, according to online court records. Records also indicate he has been sued twice for child support, with the most recent lawsuit filed on Friday, just one day before Saturday night's shooting. Auburn police have sworn out three capital murder warrants against Leonard. He is accused of killing three people, including former Auburn football players Ed Christian and Ladarious Phillips, and injuring three others. Police are also seeking two "persons of interest" who they did not identify. Leonard was charged with second degree assault in the June 25, 2009, shooting of a 16-year-old male. The teen was shot with a 40-caliber type handgun, according to court records. Prosecutors did not pursue the charges after the victim stated under oath that Leonard did not shoot him. Efforts to reach the attorney who had represented Leonard in that case were unsuccessful Sunday. Leonard also was arrested Jan. 31, 2008 by the Montgomery Police Department's Crime Reduction Team after it responded to a report of a stolen vehicle, according to court records. Police spotted the 2001 GMC Yukon Denali and gave pursuit. Leonard, who was in the car, told police he had a gun in his pocket. Police confiscated a Smith&Wesson 9mm handgun that he did not have a license to carry, according to records. Leonard also has been involved in two child support cases. The lawsuit filed Friday claims Leonard is the father of a girl born in 2011. In January a court had ruled that Leonard was the father of another girl, now 4, by another woman. Leonard was ordered to pay $305 a month in child support, $21 of which was to go toward $7,336 in back child support he owed in the case.

HAPPENING NOW.
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — An Alabama mayor says that authorities are in a "waiting game" while they surround a house where they believe a suspect in fatal shootings near Auburn University is hiding. Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange told reporters Monday night that authorities were using tear gas to try and flush out the suspect. Strange said that authorities received two separate tips that someone who looked like suspect Desmonte Leonard was in the area. Dozens of law enforcement vehicles surrounded the house. Police spokeswoman Regina Duckett said it appears there is only one person in the home, and tear gas did not flush him out. Authorities were able to hear coughing and movement in the house after the tear gas was used. http://www.chron.com/news/article/Police...625253.php

Sounds like they have him trapped like a rat on the upper floor of the house. Funny how brave they always are until it comes time to fight a well armed and well trained opponent.
