Even though I loved him, I began to feel trapped and suffocated. I didn't like feeling like that and began to doubt things would improve as our relationship progressed. I had been with him for 6 years, since I was 14 or 15. That's quite a long time and now that I think about it, awfully young for such a serious relationship. I left him. He was devastated. I've had my heart broken since, but never felt the way about anyone that I felt about him.

That is awfully young... do you think the age had anything to do with how it may have appeared to feel? Was it really deep love or young love with deep
infatuation?

No, I really truly did love him. First loves are very powerful, which is probably why I've never felt that way about anyone since. I still find myself unconciously comparing men to him and how they either do or don't measure up.
Just shut up. Just shut the fuck up right now.

Very true about the first loves... mine did a number on me when I was 16-17. She was one of those who cheated on me rather than just break up. And at that age I was such a dumb ass that I let her do it to me a few times.

That first experience probably ruined me for about 10 years. Each relationship after that was doomed, I just didn't know it - trust issues and the like...

But after I got past all your lying and cheating ways, you all aren't so bad.

He was cool actually. I meant that as a compliment, because he was always erudite and always spoke of himself in the third person.

I'm sure he still is cool, since he's still alive... met him once, pretty funny guy actually with a good sense of humor.

Great war hero too. For those who don't know, go read up on it.

Never voted for Dole, but had more respect for him than most politicians. He earned the right to tout his WWII service and Purple Hearts when he ran against Clinton, though I remember hearing some critcism about the emphasis from the left. Everybody's a critic. It's been a long time since we had a President who actively served (just an observation, not a condemnation - I think it's a plus, but not a must).

I always kinda liked Dole, even when he was doing the Viagra commercials and drooling over Brittany Spears in those Pepsi ads. He wasn't gonna make a run for President again anyway, so why not have a sense of humor, make some money, and remind people that old doesn't mean dead? I really like Elizabeth Dole, too - sharp accomplished woman.

I don't LOVE either of them though (*just remembering thread topic*).

I kind of lost respect for Bob when he started promoting Viagra.

I'd lose respect for Hillary too if she were hawking lube.

I'm pretty sure we are all adults. If someone hasn't been loved, don't tell me. I'll start a mental list of all the shit that is possibly wrong with you. If you haven't felt love, shorter list: Mental illness.

Just kidding. I don't contemplate "love"
Being in love, out of love, loving someone, not loving someone
I just do, I am, I be
I love therefore I am in love
I love therefore I am loved
Its really quite simple

I always liked Elizabeth Dole too until I found out when she was our congressman she only went to like 3 sessions and was absent about 20 times.
