Nick Wallenda will tomorrow step out on a 2in-thick steel cable to make the 1,800ft journey from the U.S. into Canada, and secure himself a place in the record books. Watched by an estimated 125,000 people below and some half a billion on TV, his will be a border crossing like no other as he becomes the first tightrope walker to try to walk from one side of Niagara's famous 175ft-high Horseshoe Falls to the other.

Is he going to wear a life jacket?

I believe he has to wear a safety line and harness.

Kind of takes the thrill out of watching it.

Now his grandfather on the other hand was a boss, went out doing what he loved... no safety lines:

what a bore. Smiley_emoticons_razz

The Wallendas have never used nets or safety wires, a tradition that has claimed the lives of three of them already. But ABC, the Disney-owned TV network which is paying handsomely to televise the walk live, has now intervened. It doesn’t want to broadcast a man plunging to his death and is insisting the reluctant Wallenda wear a safety harness.

After spending two years persuading local U.S. and Canadian authorities that allowing his attempt would help their struggling economies, Wallenda needs the sponsorship from the TV deal. Thus, he appears to have accepted that he must wear a harness with a wire attached to the tightrope.

I won't be there. A friend will be there, on the American side..as he had plans to be at the Falls this weekend anyway..a golf weekend thing. But he said if he gets to watch cool..if not, no big deal.

I know they gave away free tickets to be in the park area for best viewing..many of them showed up on E-bay.

Guess he was not too happy about the harness...said it actually makes the stunt more difficult.
Here is the thing, was listening to the morning show on local radio yesterday..and he apparently is having difficulty raising money to pay off all the costs he has incurred...insurance, equipment etc. Gonna run over a million. Thing is..you would think the Falls tourism bureau would be all over this as a money making venture..and getting sponsors, selling shit and all..to make money for them and to pay.
But, if he cannot pay, why do it anyway?

This is such bullshit... what about the agony of defeat ABC??? It doesn't get more agonizing then plummeting 220 feet into a churning waterfall.

he finally just stepped out after hours of blah blah blah blah.

it IS nervewracking to see him and look down. even with safety harness. i wouldn't want to see him die.

he prays constantly as he goes.

God the Falls are stunning!

he made it...i'm glad for him.
