NYC mayor wants to shame drivers into slowing down
As a punishment, shame works pretty good on 6-year-olds. But not so much for the rest of us. And in New York City FCS? Forget about it!
Nonetheless, the NY Mayor thinks that's the only recourse now that the state legislature has shot down his notion of fining speeders caught on camera.
"We'll put up their names and pictures someplace, maybe we can shame them," he huffed. "We should look at that."
What's next, why not a pillory for jaywalking pedestrians?
So anyway, would you be fearful of being publicly shamed for speeding?

That seems like a colossal waste of money. In my fairly small town, I would be slightly uncomfortable though to have my picture/name posted with SPEEDER next to it. At minimum I'd get teased about it.

Nope. Tickets and concerns for safety are much greater motivators for me than shame.
This reminds me of the article link Maggot posted about some voting organizations sending out the names of those who didn't vote last time out to their neighbors, intending to shame more people into showing up at the polls. Not illegal, but certainly too much of a privacy breach, imo. I hope that the mayor was frustrated and kidding.

Some states are using safety as a money making machine. Its like giving bonus points for cops pulling in the most speeders. Like the stop sign cameras this is just another way for states to garnish wages from the citizenry. Its a slippery slope that liberals like the NY mayor would love to slide down gathering dough along the way. Then when they are old they can sit in some mansion and enjoy a public pension with full health care supplied by the people they just fleeced.

As an insurance agent, I know speed KILLS! I wish we would start teaching our children more and more that agressive driving and SPEED are the biggest killers in car accidents.

BTW my new car is a big car. I find myself speeding on the interstates and have to force myself to slow down. I have never had a speeding ticket ever. And pray I never do. I would be mortified if I got one. Mostly because I know better. And because I have experienced the pain and horror of those that have lost loved ones due to speeding and reckless driving.

This will never work. Guys in this country and a lot of others spend thousands of $$ making our cars and trucks look like and run like racecars. We have a testosterone fueled genetic need for speed. Look at the popularity of nascar. I have a lot of speeding tickets over the last 40 years of driving, my record is still better than most because I drive so much.
What has worked however, I finally got tired of paying out the ass for insurance and speeding fines..
I have only had a couple of accidents, none ever my fault, none speed related.
On another note, it looks like after 6 years of on and off work, my 81 vette will be back on the road by the end of the year after a full on body off restomod.

God...heaven forbid you are caught on camera speeding while drinking a 32 oz Pepsi. They would reopen Alcatraz for such an offence
