Do you see homeless people in your community?

Yeah, a few. There are a few spots they can stay downtown as well as the green places surrounding the town, where they won't be harrassed and people don't feel annoyed by their presence. It's a problem in winter, though, which is pretty harsh round here. We have a few shelters, but some people say they prefer to risk death and injuries by freezing than to stay there.

Downtown San Diego, yes.
I used to walk right over them but now reach into my pockets and give them what I've got.

I know they're likely to spend it on booze, but it's not like most of them are one hot meal from turning it all around.
Why not give them a little novocain to help them though their day?

i'm sure they are here, but mainly unseen. :(

they are everywhere really.

Fla. was really a refuge, during the winter they would all trickle down.

Yeah, big population of homeless folks here, especially in the Mission district and the Haight (Golden Gate Park area). I know a few of them casually now, all but one suffers from mental illness.

Were that we so lucky.

One time I was waiting for a light exiting eastbound 78@ Sycamore. There was a beggar with a cardboard sign doing his thing. A woman in a 90k bmw in front of me rolled down her window part way and handed the guy out a banana. I was so stuck by this act of cruelty that I waved him back and gave him five dollars. I hope he bought a pint of vodka to wash the taste of hatebanana down.

Good point.
We have no idea what foul deeds she was doing with that banana before handing it over to the homeless veteran.

I wonder how long she congratulated herself for being so giving.

Probably all day.

It's one of the most disconnected things I've ever witnessed. People are so fucking weird.

Didn't Elvis choke on a fried banana and peanut butter sandwich?

That's what happens when you eat a sandwich on the toilet.
