See? That's fucked up. No different than phone tapping.

Completely agree. Same as opening up someone's snail mail too.

Granted, I don't know the context in which these 22 departments would be able to access anyone's email. But, the concept, principle, and precedent are very concerning to me (and my email is about as boring as humanly possible).

Stone and Jamie Schuh, the woman who snapped the photo, have been put on unpaid leave from their jobs at the Hyannis-based LIFE Inc. — a nonprofit that helps adults with special needs — while it investigates the incident.

Anytime you are on a business trip, you should act accordingly even if you are off the clock for the evening or whatever. You are still there representing that company. What this girl did was in bad taste whether she was working or not.

When I first started here I had to go to Hartford, CT for two weeks to attend Claim University. Of course there were some younger folks there too and one night they went out and they all got hammered. They came back to the hotel and partied more in the hotel bar and caused some type of scene. It got back to the uppity ups in the company and we all got a lecture about how to conduct ourselves while on a business trip. We were warned that if anymore incidents were reports, the offending individuals would be asked to leave and would lose their jobs.

I think it's an idiotic/moronic thing to do, and like many have said, her family members have to be embarrassed.

And, if her employer now chooses to disassociate themselves from her because of it, I have no problem with that, either.

People need to really consider posting things on their social sites before doing so. The consequences can be pretty severe even for something as stupid as this.

After pondering on this further, I have come to the conclusion that you guys are right.
Even if she was poking fun, she did not respect the sign asking for Silence and Respect.
By shouting and flipping her finger, she at the very least, was disrespecting the sign.
In a Forum we have rules, if we break them, then we are banned.
She broke a cemetery rule so must now face the consequences.

What she did reflects poorly on her company, so I think there is just cause to fire her if she was on an assignment or playing around during a company sponsored trip. I can also see the company keeping her and putting her on probation if she's an otherwise strong performer who wasn't officially on the clock during the cemetary visit; interested to see how this turns out.

Imo, it would be harder to justify firing the co-worker who took the pic if she didn't also pose in such photos or post 'em. JMO...

So what!?! What happened to freedom of speech? Fucking religious zealots can demonstrate at a vet's funeral but this random show of disrespect results in a firestorm? I call bullshit and I don't think you really feel that way. Bitch.

Yes. As repulsive as I might find what she did, she has the right to flip her finger.

Freedom of spech has nothing to do with it, the stupid cunt was being a stupid cunt and deserves the shit storm she has invited. Some Shit Ain't Funny.
If I had been there I would have booted her in the ass, woman or not.
Thats a sacred place and not a place for some stupid fucking joke.
Oh, and by the way, Freedon is not free. You may have the right to say whatever you want, but it does not mean there are no consequences.
Fuck her

I agree that she has the right to flip her finger and act like an idiot.

Equally, I believe that the employer has the right to express its dissatisfaction by penalizing/ firing her (though it might have legal problems if the employer/employee contract doesn't have an "at will" or "code of conduct" stipulation, imo).

If Stone was being threatened with arrest or deportation, it would be a violation of her right to freedom of speech/expression, imo. But, she didn't commit any crime here and she's not being threatened with any action by the government or LE. I think the Constitutional protection is working just as its designed in this case: 1 party freely expresssing herself and other parties freely expressesing their opinions about it.

IDK, Stone's actions and posting/bragging about them scream "attention hound" to me. I wish she wasn't getting any (and, bettin' this isn't the type/extent she was going for either).

I agree with you that this media firestorm is an overreation to one idiot. Hopefully, Stone and others will get the message about actions and consequences in the social media age; times have changed. Though being discreet, if not sensible, is still an effective way to minimize biting oneself in the ass; never goes outta style.

Do we even know if she was being loud or just giving the appearance of shouting?

She's guilty of acting in poor taste, that's all.
