Britains got talent

Hrm. They're giving her too much credit.

The audition was good, but it wasn't 'pitch perfect', and neither was this last performance. I can see why people like her, but I don't know that she will win the competition. I don't know what the other contestants are like, either. So far, I'm not seeing a lot of potential for making albums people will want to listen to.

She kind of sounds like Julie Andrews, but without the 'joie de vivre'[size="-1"] and technical clarity. Interesting that she chose a song very similar in style to the first one she sang.

Here's a recording she made back in 1999 that one of the UK papers dug up.

Now THOSE are some damned good vocals. If she can bring it back up to that level, she's a shoo-in.

Here is my 2 cents. For myself, while I have not been beat hard with an ugly stick, I am far from the norm of what defines beauty in our society. Cripes, I am 55, overweight and hate my hair. But I HAVE been kissed.

Anyway, I cannot carry a tune in a paper bag, but if I could I would hope people would enjoy my singing, and not make such a big hoo haa about what I looked like. I have listened to her, she has a good enough voice. And while I would probably not buy one of her CD's, I have to agree with what someone here posted and wonder if there were be such a fuss over her voice if she were more attractive??

I seriously doubt it, but hey... if she gets a little fame in her 'golden years', good for her. A person has to take what they can get, eh?

Edit: As a side note: "Britain's Got Talent!!".... but they seem to be ugly fuckers.

Okay, here's my take on it. Yeah, it's a little incongruous to hear that voice coming from a less than beautiful person after our society's conditioning to love and admire stick figure celebrities addicted to plastic surgery, but I think what moves me the most about her story is she's an average person with the possibility of HUGE financial and personal success that most of us can only dream of. If she can do it, so can we.

Not me of course, I've got no talent at all.

::lmao:: I hear ya... I'm not particularly talented at anything really. I'm a 'jack of all trades' sort of person. I'm good at fixing computers though, which saves me from having to work some menial job for a corporation somewhere. It's satisfying, at least, to make your own living. Even if your ass gets reamed over taxes every year. =p

When I was in high school I really wanted to go into acting. But today, I'd see me as the character actor type, probably typecast as a crusty old waitress at a diner or a bartender at a small mom and pop neighborhood pub.
