GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE, OR DO THEY?

Uh . . . where did it say the boys found the guns (SIC) within reach?

I must have missed it in the article you posted.

And the gun . . . did it belong to one of the grandparents?

Again . . . missed the whole ownership thing in your article posting.

Yes, grandparents guns.

How many guns and where were they located in the home?

The article mentions ONE gun, no location and no ownership.

I think you're guessing.

If the authorities are not clear on how it happened why are they calling it a homicide?

I mean, after all, if the 12 year old hadn't become fascinated with guns (because they were unattainable for him), he would've just become fascinated with knives or claw-hammers or something along those lines.

Hiding them from him would have done the trick I am sure of it. I mean a kid never sees a gun in a movie or video game so their curiosity would have never ben peaked about them.
***sarcasm mode off***

F.U. my point is, gun enthusiasts like to point out it's not the gun that does the killing, it's the individual.

So, if he had zero access to guns, he would've just become consumed by some other 'tool' that could be used to kill.

Have to go mow the lawn and have a margarita.

Your point was that they should have ben unattainable for him and he would have never ben fascinated with guns. That just is not true in the world we live in today. Guns are a large part of our world. Unless we remove all guns, pictures of guns, games with guns in them, wars and memories of guns children will see them and become fascinated by them.

And then a gun/guns were left within reach for him.

Nice.

Are you insinuating he didn't get the gun from the home?

Edit: Yes, I'm assuming.

No.

I'm stating that the article references ONE gun, no ownership of said weapon and NEVER mentions where this gun was located or how it came into the possesion of the kids.

It may be the case that the gun (not GUNS) was registered to one of the grandparents. Or not.

It may be the case that said gun was unsecured and readily accessible to one or both boys. Or not.

I am simply pointing out your rush to judgment on unverifiable statements.

Are YOU insinuating that it is not possible that one of the boys "borrowed" this gun from a friend's house and brought it into the grandparents' home?

Speaking of kids being fascinated by things, my 6 year old is apparently consumed by Bud Light.

He refers to an adult 'having a Bud Light' or 'going to have a Bud Light' a lot.

My wife and I look at each other and laugh, because we've never had a Bud Light in the house.

Shows you how powerful advertising really is.

@Tiki... a few more details, though it doesn't specify that the guns originated in the home.

I'll make that assumption myself (until I'm proven wrong).

Taken from The Inquisitr (Brooklyn, NY)

A 12-year-old Ohio boy shot and killed his 9-year-old brother before turning the gun on himself, a coroner said after the tragic shooting on Wednesday.

People in the Ohio town were devastated Wednesday after news that the two boys — 12-year-old Austin Wiseman and his 9-year-old Brother, Blake Campbell — were found shot to death. The boys lived with their grandparents, who came home from an errand Wednesday morning to found the boys dead in a bedroom.

It was not known where the boys’ mother, 32-year-old Kelly Lenoir Harris, was at the time of the shooting.

Police did not initially know the circumstances of the shooting. There were several guns found at the scene, including a .44-caliber revolver. On Thursday a medical examiner found that the 12-year-old killed his 9-year-old brother with a gunshot to the head, but it was not determined if his death was an accident.

Thanks for a bit more info than originally offered.

Damned shame tougher gun control laws weren't in place before this accident.

On the bright side, the world has two less Buckeye's to contend with.

The down side . . . I'm assuming they were white.

I can hope maybe . . . maybe mixed race . . . and the world will be twice blessed!

It's a shame that 12 yr old did not have any education in the way of gun safety and respect. This never would have happened.

I've been skimming but isn't there some question about whether this was deliberate or intentional?

The authorities have called it a homicide but in the next breath say they don't know what happened and probably never will.

My faith in the judicial and mental health system to determine if someone is "sane" and poses no threat to society is damned near zero.

And then the declaration, in their professional judgment, they are "healed"? Haha!

Find one expert with one opinion and I'll find you one with an opposing view.

I know what you mean. "Sanity" is rather subjective in itself.

My faith in a lot of things outside of my control is limited too; still keep trying and willing to go step by step rather than looking away or standing still, assuming the goal is worthwhile. Sometimes I wind up walking in place and no further ahead, but at least there's some exercise involved.

In terms of guns and the mentally ill, there are those who are not convicted of a crime but forcibly committed or declared mentally ill by a judge as a result of violent acts or threats made against others, like Cho. Lots of Chos out there. To me, additional focus and actions to motivate/allow states to comply with the federal regulations to report at least those irrefutable cases is a goal worth pursuing.

Police don't know whether the 12 year old shot his brother deliberately before killing himself. I tend to think so. Only because it takes some mental fortitude/commitment to blow your own 'effin brains out under any circumstances. I don't think a 12 year old would respond that way to an accident off the cuff, but everybody's different so it's possible.

None of us knows if these boys had safety training; just as likely that they did as that they didn't, imo.

None of us knows if the gun was locked up and the 12 year old knew where to find the key, or if the gun was somewhere unsecured in the house.

While none of us knows, the grandparents know and police might know. I doubt that information will ever be made public.

Sad story.

More guns in society = more gun related deaths.

Such a brilliant observation from an obviously brilliant mind. Let's play with that cosmic equation some, shall we sport?

More knives in society = more knife related deaths.

More cars in society = more car related deaths.

More chemicals in society = more chemical related deaths.

Save your breath for cooling your soup. He is hopelessly ensnarled in his environment and will never, ever agree that firearms can be held by anyone but a government official. A Lemming. Its in his DNA now. That don't make him a bad person though just, a man of conviction. Albeit wrongly substantiated but wrong none the less. I bet CN has a "special" hat. Smiley_emoticons_smile
