That shooting in Lorain, Ohio was one of three known shootings by a toddler in a 7-day period. All made possible by negligent adults with loaded guns in the home.
-Last Monday at around 9:30 p.m., two 3-year-olds were playing with a shotgun in a Baltimore home. Police told the Sun that the two kids found the gun in one of their bedrooms. The gun went off and hit one of the children, a boy, in the lower leg. He was taken to a hospital and was in stable condition as of Monday night.
-Just two days prior, a 3-year-old girl in Lorain, Ohio was listed in critical condition after her 4-year-old brother shot her in the head. The siblings were playing when the boy found a .40 caliber handgun. Police said the boy told them multiple times he was sorry.
-On October 27, Patrick Sanders, 20, was sleeping on the couch at a Houston-area apartment when his loaded pistol slipped out of his pants and a 3-year-old boy in the home picked it up. Sanders was shot in the face as he tried to get the gun away from the boy and it accidentally went off.

Effin' Idiot Gun-Loving Parents -- Charge the Assholes
I do not understand why there is ever a question as to whether a parent should be charged with negligence when a toddler gets a hold of a loaded gun and shoots it.
I don't care if the idiot parent rambles on about how he/she told the child never to touch the gun and/or gave the child "gun safety" lessons. That's plain shit-for-brains parenting that endangers the life of others. The parent should be charged, fined, made to take parenting courses, and lose gun-owning privileges for life -- at minimum, IMO.
This little cutie is 3-year-old Michael Holzworth. His dad, Jon Holzworth, loves his arsenal of guns; even touts them on his bumper stickers. When his wife was fighting for custody of the kids a year ago, court docs show she was afraid to leave the kids alone with him for any length of time because of the guns (they've since reconciled). Jon's response: "My (gun) hobby is no more dangerous than if I were to collect stamps," he wrote. What a crock of shit.
^ Michael was shot in the mouth/face at his home by a 4-year-old neighbor 3 days ago when the neighbor got a hold of Michael's dad's gun. Michael's mom was at a funeral and his dad was supposed to be watching the boys.
Miraculously, Michael survived -- he is getting set for reconstructive nasal and plastic surgery this week. I hope Michael and the neighbor boy get through the trauma alright and I hope Jon Holzworth is held responsible legally for his negligent idiocy.

The specific type of gun is not mentioned in the articles.
One thing is certain, it was a functional gun that was not safe from reach by toddlers, and it was either loaded (most likely, IMO) or able to be loaded by a 4-year-old.
Although it's documented in court docs that there were concerns about lack of child gun safety in the home last year, Jon Holzworth contends that there are never unlocked guns in his home.
Also, the little boy's grandmother was concerned and had picked up and dropped off some child safety gun locks at the home the day before the shooting.
The shooting is under investigation. I'm interested to see what detectives uncover and what, if any, charges are filed.

Well say it was a 9mm that used a clip, having it as a home protection device is fine just put the clip in a different place near the actual gun but hidden. If it was a revolver then a 4 yr old might have a hard time firing it unless the pin was stone ground down to make it an easier pull.
Many folks go with the clip for home protection.

This is the Washington dad, ^ Jon Holzworth, who claims never to leave guns unsecured in his home -- despite claims by others to the contrary and despite the fact that his 3-year-old was shot in the face by a 4-year-old neighbor while unattended under his care in his home.
He's fought against gun legislation and is a vocal gun enthusiast. He works for a home security company. He is someone who should know exactly what a gun can do in the wrong hands. Here's his public statement in response to questions about gun safety in his home after his little boy was shot.
"Yes, all fire arms (sic) are locked up, gun safety is paramount and number one rule in our home we take it very seriously, I'm devastated and can only give glory to God for my son's life being sparred (sic).
"Guns are not toys in our home, even nurf (sic) type, even squirt guns are not used in a playful manor (sic).
"He is my only son who I love more than my own life. I've always been very careful With (sic) firearms, I never in a million years would have thought this would happen to us and it's devastating to our family. What we need is prayers and support. We love God and we know that without his intervention we could have lost a loving and caring child."
His credibility is shot to shit if he left a loaded gun (or gun and ammo) where his children and their little playmates could get to it. He fights against gun safety legislation on the premise that it's unnecessary because gun owners are responsible. Yeah. Personally, I suspect the man is lying about practicing gun safety in his home, but I'll be following the story and see what the investigation uncovers.

^Front door of the family home
I hope 3-year-old Michael Holzworth's face can be reconstructed and I'm very happy that he doesn't have brain damage. I don't give a shit if the Holzworth home is apparently full of guns and dad is a walking/driving gun advert -- SO LONG AS the guns (whatever types) are safely and responsibly out of reach of unsupervised children.
Unless dad is gonna try to blame the 4-year-old for managing to acquire and shoot the gun, it's hard for me to imagine a reason for publicly failing to acknowledge responsibility. We'll see where it goes.

Sorry, Maggot.
Are you suggesting that there are some types of loaded guns (or accessible empty guns with accessible ammo) that are okay to leave unsecured in homes with unattended toddlers, or are you just curious about the gun type in this case?

That guy is obviously a douch and is full of shit. If his guns were secured as he says there is no way in hell a 4 yr old would have been able to get hold of one. Fucking moron

Hell no..........just wondering what all the facts are. The guy is a dumbo and an accessory to murder. There are ways to secure guns so kids do not access them. He obviously did not think things through and will now pay the price with his destroyed mangled and bloody unforgiving life forever.

I'll post the type of weapon the 4-year-old used to shoot the 3-year-old when that information is released, Maggot.
Nobody was killed; the little boy was in critical condition but he's expected to survive.
The dad who was supposed to be supervising the boys has not been charged with anything so far and, unlike some of the parents in these type of cases, he's not publicly taken responsibility -- he went straight into denial and defense mode. I don't know if he'll suffer for life, but I hope he's held legally accountable for the negligence that led to his son having his face blown off.

Still no updates on how 3-year-old Michael Holzworth is doing following his surgery or whether his father will be charged with negligence.
On a separate but related note, the Tulsa, Oklahoma mother of another 3-year-old has died.
Christa Engels, 26
The 3-year-old son of Christa Engels shot her in the face while she was changing her 1-year-old's diaper. Dad was a truck driver who was on the road and gramma reportedly found the kids, covered in mom's blood.
For anyone who cares what type of loaded gun was left in reach of the toddler, the story only notes that it was a semi-automatic.

You should not talk about your alter-ego Margaret that way, Maggot.
She might hear you and have to shoot you in the foot or something.
Could be an entertaining trial though.

These stories make me sad & irate. The deaths are preventable in every way and yet they continue to happen.
