That 2 year old is a natural! Can't even tie shoe laces yet but manages to get in to mom's purse, unzip the gun pouch, pull it out and make a perfect head shot!!!
Damn!
She probably should have just given the kid whatever toy he was asking for at the time.

With the new laser sights installed on many new pistols anyone can become a excellent marksman anymore. No need to aim, just tap the laser switch and red on the head and their dead.

I don't know whether McCollum shot his wife with intent or due to extreme effin' negligence.
McCollum says he took his service revolver to bed with him and he accidentally shot his wife in the back when he went to move it. He also says that he and his wife were both asleep when he shot her. Trusting investigators got his tox screen that night.
Yesterday, the hospital released a statement that ^Margaret McCollum's condition was changed from critical to serious.
If Mrs. McCollum dies, I hope the chief is swiftly charged with at least manslaughter. If she survives and is able to give investigators her account, it'll help them determine whether to charge the chief with attempted murder. (If the shooting is ruled "accidental" and he's not charged at all, it'll be an outrage if he's not at least fired and prevented from working in law enforcement again, IMO.)

I read some gossip, I want to be clear on that lest anyone thinks I'm presenting facts -
I read they had been married for like 20 years, got divorced and he married a rabbi and then the shooter and ex that he shot got back together last year.
Just a little background, if it's even true.

I think that gossip is true, Duchess. At least partially. It's confirmed that the couple divorced in 1999 and recently got back together.
Anyway, Mrs. McCollum is now in fair condition. She told officers that she was asleep when she was shot. She also told them that she does not believe that the shooting was intentional. I hope she's not protecting her husband or in denial.
I understand that Glocks fire easily, but accidentally firing it twice in a row is hard to believe (I'm assuming it was fired twice because the chief originally thought he'd shot his wife twice). He either meant to shoot her, he's a completely dipshitted irresponsible gun owner, and/or he was wasted out of his effin' skull.
In one of the safest towns in the country known for people puttering around all over in their golf carts, the chief of police takes his loaded gun to bed (probably on the premise of guarding his personal safety) and shoots his wife in the back. It would be funny if it wasn't so scary that he's assigned to carry a gun and protect citizens from getting shot and stuff. He needs to be fired already, IMO -- he can always be charged later if the investigation supports criminal prosecution.
On a separate note, this off duty veteran cop shot himself by accident in an elevator in Ohio on Friday; all on surveillance. Jesus. He'll survive the wound; not sure about the embarrassment.

Service Weapons in the News
I keep reading about them...
1. COP SHOOTS WIFE: Last week, a Georgia chief of police shot his wife in the back while she slept -- claiming he took his loaded Glock to bed with him and it accidentally fired (covered upthread).
2. COP SHOOTS SELF: A few days ago, a cop in Ohio accidentally shot himself in an elevator while bumbling with his food and his gun (video in post above).
3. STEPSON SHOOTS COP: Yesterday, a police officer in Georgia was shot to death with his service weapon -- his adult stepson had access to the Glock and shot the officer, his mother, and his little sister to death before blowing his own brains out. Story: http://www.ajc.com/news/news/sheriffs-of...ng-/njhFn/
4. COPS LOSES SERVICE RIFLE: Today, the Salem New Hampshire police are asking the public for help because a police officer set his service rifle on the top of his car and drove off without securing it in the trunk. The officer went to several calls before realizing what he'd done. "We are asking that Good Samaritan to return the rifle to the Salem Police Department or call 603.893.1911 and we will pick it up with no questions asked," police said. "If the person does not feel comfortable with turning it into the Police Department they can turn it in at a local gun shop, or any other safe place ensure its safe return. This is undoubtedly a failure to follow established policy and procedures," police said. "We are embarrassed as an agency and no one feels worse than the officer who lost the bag." Such complacency in regards to gun safety, especially by those who should be the example of responsible gun ownership, is really disappointing to read. (Note: the Georgia murder/suicide may not have involved complacency, investigation underway.)

This soldier left his wife in bed to go to work only to return so he could surprise her with breakfast in bed. He tripped their alarm and she shot him through the door. He's in stable condition.
A soldier from Fort Bragg was shot in the chest by his wife on Friday morning when he tried to surprise her with breakfast in bed.
According to police in Fayetteville, Zia Zegule, 28, left for the military base as usual at around 8am but snuck back soon after to prepare his romantic treat.
However, Zegule tripped the burglar alarm and when he approached the bedroom door was shot through the closed door at around 10am by Tiffany Segule, 27, who had gone back to sleep after he left.
Police said that Segule came home through the front door but it is not clear whether he announced himself before he was shot by his wife.

Every time I see gun nuts out there yawping about losing their rights and no gun ever killed anybody on its own and how they've all been raised right with guns and taught gun safety, this is what I picture..

More 'responsible' gun owners..
Evansville, Indiana: A US couple face charges after investigators say they found mobile phone videos showing the woman's 12-month-old daughter putting a handgun in her mouth.
Police in Indiana discovered the videos after 19-year-old Michael Barnes was arrested for trying to sell a handgun to an undercover officer.
Police say the man and the girl's 22-year-old mother, Tori Wilson, can be heard encouraging the toddler to say "pow", and that no one tried to stop her as she put the gun in her mouth.
Police say the mother told officers the girl was holding a pellet gun; investigators say it was a .40-calibre handgun. They say the gun's magazine appeared to be removed but it's not clear if ammunition was in the chamber.
Both adults face charges including child neglect and recklessness with a deadly weapon. Evansville police described the acts as "mind-numbing" and said they had never seen anything like it before.
