WTF is it with people and their kids?
Leaving the gun out of the deal completely...WTF is the kid doing going in Moms purse? Why do parents let their kids play with their phone or keys then bitch because they can't find the keys and the phone is fucked up?
I still won't go in the GF's purse, if she says theres something in there I need, I bring the purse to her and let her fetch it out.
Never let my kids play with my keys, they never managed to lose them.
Point is, you got a gun in there, WTF are you doing letting the kid dig in there?
Secure the fucking thing already.

I don't want anyone else rolling their eyes at me when I say some people are too stupid to live. Here's your sign.

Some have just outlived their usefulness.

Yeah, that was kind of a thoughtless statement. Based on the officer's other statements, I think he was being literal with that one though -- the little guy did pull the trigger.
I'm just glad Drobik is pushing for charges against the parents instead of writing it off as a tragic accident like many other cops do.

At 5:20 minutes into the video it mentions a modern emergency bag. If any potential targets were allowed to include a firearm in their modern emergency bag this gunman would have been stopped early on in his rampage or not embarked on this carnage at all. After all the video says he looks for soft or easy targets and if he knew his targets would be armed and trained to use their weapon he may not have entertained doing it.

I agree. The no gun zones make me a little uncomfortable because I know the only people who will pay attention are law abiding citizens.
Something is different in our society. Guns have always been around but I don't ever recall hearing the stories I hear about these days. Some will say it's because we now have news available instantly but I think it's more than that.

I agree, but thats tantamount to telling everyone to go out and buy a gun to keep in a kit just in case and there is no way in hell that will ever show up in a Police PSA.

Toddler accidentally shot mother, police say
Davie police are investigating how a toddler got his hands on a gun and accidentally shot his mother, Capt. Dale Engle said Monday.
Officers were called about 3:45 a.m. Monday to a home in the 4800 block of Southwest 59 th Terrace.
"A 3-year-old boy gained access to his parents' firearm," Engle said. "The child discharged one round and struck the mother in the leg. She received an injury that was not life-threatening."

The injured woman left the home and contacted authorities. She was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood. The weapon was a small-caliber, semi-automatic handgun, Engle said.
She had surgery Monday and remained at the hospital, police said.
The Florida Department of Children & Families is involved and Broward Sheriff's investigators were at the family's residence on its behalf, an agency spokeswoman said.
"Charges have not been brought forth yet," Engle said.

It's an odd puzzle. The more people go out and commit mass murders (or murder) with a gun, the more some people feel like they need to arm themselves accordingly which results in more, untrained idiots owning guns. Ramsey is thinking about buying a gun for chrissake. Need I say more?

Very True, and its a puzzle that needs solving IMHO.
Its the same sort of thing as any potentially deadly device: Cars, some appliances, guns..
People get way too complacent about their treatment of the things. Kids in the car and put it in gear, gun in the purse, space heater in the kids room...

It's happened again but no death this time.
A LEO was getting ready for work, he removed the clip from his gun but there was a bullet in the chamber. His 10 yr. old daughter shot her 8 yr. old sister in the belly. I'll post the link so everyone can read the story but I have a little something to say first. Of course the father is at fault because he left his weapon unattended but I'm blaming the 10 yr. old too. I'm familiar with 10 yr. old children. I know they know the difference between right & wrong and I feel certain that kid absolutely knew what she was doing, matter of fact I blame the kid more than I do the father. It's too bad her little sister is paying for her shit for brains.

10 yrs old is Way beyond the age of not knowing better. Presumably the guy has been a cop for a significant amount of the kids life and its hard to imagine that he has not in 10 years taught them to leave the fucking thing alone. That said, it ain't unloaded until its unloaded and he did a half ass job of that. What was the point to removing the mag, leave one chambered and then leave it on the bed? WTF, why not simply take it in the bathroom with you?
The cop was careless, just as much as most of the rest of these idiots, The kid is also an asshole. My bet is this is not the first problem that kid has created. You just never know.
Oh, where was mom? What the fuck were the kids doing snooping around in dads bedroom? These people never hear of boundaries?

I think bags like that are a good thing to have around, they serve a purpose, have what you need where you need it. They have lots of names: SHTF Bag, Bug Out Bag, Get Home Bag. The contents need to be carefully thought out, what is the purpose of the bad? That's the first question to ask, then based on that, what goes in it. Flash Light, Pistol, small first aid kit, some cash...whatever..
The one I have in the back seal of the truck is a smallish shoulder tactical bag, there is fire makings, largish Bushcraft type knife, water filter, poncho and a few other things. Its my day bag, if I am out and about and see a trail or a piece of woods that needs a little exploring that's the bag I grab, pistol goes either in the bag or back of the pants and off I go. I also keep a Camelback that has the same contents and a little more for a planned day trip that is going to be more than an hour or two.
So, think about what purpose you want the bag to fill, I'll help you load it up.

It's so frustrating to read these stories and know that it's not really the accident that it is described as. These things happen because people are not using their common sense. They make stupid decisions, decisions that many times I feel they know better than to make. It's all so senseless and absolutely preventable.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) - The Fort Wayne Police Department responded to reports of a shooting in the 1500 block of West Fourth Street just after 10 p.m. Friday.
Upon arrival, police determined that a negligent discharge of a gun occurred which involved a 5-year old female being critically shot in the face. The child was transported to a local hospital in critical condition where she was later pronounced dead by the hospital staff.
All of the occupants of the residence were taken in to the Police Operation Center for questioning as all deaths are treated as homicides by the Fort Wayne Police Department until proven otherwise.
The incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Coroner’s Office.

That's so sad and maddening, FAHQTOO.
It's good to see the police in Indiana and the media referring to the 5-year-old's fatal self-shooting as a "negligent discharge" rather than an "accident".
Negligence of the adults in the home caused the little girl's death, no way around that. It seems like Fort Wayne LE started investigating the incident with that mindset straight-off.

A little more on the Fort Wayne shooting death, from the IndyStar:
Police spokesman Officer Jeremy Webb says police have heard varying descriptions from witnesses about what exactly happened, including that the gun fired when the girl grabbed it in her father’s hand and that it fired when the father tried to take the weapon from the girl.
