It's looking like maybe the killer was struggling to deal with his own sexuality.
We now know that he partied at the Pulse gay nightclub periodically over a three year period, made contacts with men on gay hook-up and dating apps, and pledged allegiance or made reference to competing terrorist groups (al-Nusra, ISIS, al-Qaeda -- he was all over the map).
His dad is a nut job. He says there is no way his son was gay, and that his son knew God will punish gays after death and it isn't for man to do so on earth (paraphrase). He also previously said the killings had nothing to do with religion. Dad's not a credible/objective source, in my opinion.

Actually this is the third worst mass shooting that I can think of. If I remember correctly both 1 & 2 were committed by our own government.
1 was on Dec 29, 1890 when our government slaughtered anywhere from 150 - 300 men women and children when they tried to disarm them. Remember Wounded Knee?
2 , also committed by our government was on April 19, 1993 when 70 men women and children were cut down after Janet Reno approved the final assault on the Branch Davidians.
Unless we don't count these mass shootings because they were committed by our own Gov. If that's the case disregard this post.
Fair enough. I'll rephrase.
The Orlando attack is the worst uncontested mass shooting in our country's history.
Unlike Wounded Knee and Waco, there aren't alternate theories and claims which contradict the official account as to who attacked whom in Orlando, nor whether all of the fatalities were caused by gunshot wounds. Orlando was definitely a mass shooting attack, not a battle or stand-off over a dispute.
All were still mass shootings though.
Actually there are conflicting stories about many of these shootings. Alternate theories surround every shooting in recent history. Actors playing the parts of grieving parents, [photos of the same people at different shootings have ben shown] Gov involvement [in a attempt to sway public opinion as to disarm us], false flag theory's are involved in most of these, including sandyhook and aurora. So depending on what side of the fence you stand is what stories you believe.
Just like the 2 I mentioned, Its all a big conspiracy.

It was difficult to watch him struggle through it but I did watch it all. It was very moving. It was obvious that everything he said about the victims was heartfelt.
There was a moment of silence on the House floor last night and it turned into a fiasco with people shouting and walking out, some said they wouldn't be participating in any more moments of silence as it was so very hypocritical. I agree, don't show any more faux concern nor sadness when you're not willing to come together and work to find solutions for all these senseless murders. As far as I can tell they do it simply to feel better about themselves. Fuck it, don't bother.

I understand if you want to label all multi-scene deaths by gunfire in wars, battles, disputes, attempts to end stand-offs, etc (including deaths resulting from gunfire by Mormon militias and/or the government) as 'mass shootings', F.U. That's not technically or linguistically wrong; there's no argument here.
And, I don't care if you and/or other conspiracy theorists believe that the Sandy Hook mass shooting didn't really happen and was just a hoax pulled off by actors instead of by Adam Lanza, or that the stand-off at Waco ended with 70 people being secretly shot to death by the government instead of dying in a fire.
I know it's been posted a few times previously, but a public 'mass shooting' in modern reference and tracking terms typically refers to a single incident where four or more people are murdered by firearm'. That's the context in which I used the term.
But, I acknowledge that large groups of people have been killed by firearms throughout our country's history in different contexts as well.
I'm not interested in a semantics argument or delving into conspiracy theories. So, let me rephrase again, "the Orlando nightclub massacre is the deadliest public mass shooting by a single or team of assailants against a group of innocent unsuspecting civilians in this country's recent history."

Not that I'd like to defend our actions in South Dakota as a nation, but in both Wounded knee and Waco there were armed resistance in active and open defiance of the government. Rightly or wrongly. The actions in Florida, and in any one of the other unprovoked shootings since Columbine, was that only one or two guys was armed and off the fucking rails. Entirely different scenarios. And using it in a halfass way to defend gun rights makes you look very foolish.

You're too kind, I'm not. Anyone who believes Sandy Hook didn't really happen or that the events of Wacko was simply our government murdering people needs mental health help now. You either need therapy or you're simply a goddamn moron.

It's that same paranoia that got Trump as far as he has, my own mother who should have more sense was fucking TERRIFIED that Syrian terrorists were coming to Kansas in her little town and kill her. I got fed up and told her even people FROM Kansas don't wanna be there, why the fuck would syrians want that shitpile? People just gotta believe the secret conspiracy.

Wait a minute, are you saying YOU believe those things? You believe Sandy Hook never happened? You believe our government murdered an entire group of people and presented it as if they died by a fire they set?

I don't disagree with your assessment. I just don't care whether they're morons or delusional -- I'm not interested in arguing facts or semantics with any of them.
In my opinion, people of that mindset are the most inclined to be members of armed militias just itchin' for big brother to try to pull such a 'hoax' on them in order to pry the guns from their cold dead hands.

I agree.
It is a hate crime against defenseless, American citizens . . . an ISIL, standing order soft-target.
And by a nut-job who claimed admiration and solidarity with Muslim groups/individuals who are "at war" with the West.
These victims were terrorized . . . and their terror was caused by the hateful action of an alleged closet job.
If it turns out this fuck is a member of the LGBTQ community, then it's really just like Chicago's Black-on-Black crime.
No hate . . . just plain and simple homicide.
Or, as Maytee spelled it, HOMOCIDE.
