I'm a Plummer fan in his role as Von Trapp because of his acting not necessarily his singing. In fact, he sang Edelweiss one time too many in the movie. He first sings it in the family room and then at the music festival. Should've skipped the first one.

Neither did I until not so long ago. He didn't actually sing anything in the movie. The producers were so horrified at his singing voice, they convinced him to have it dubbed over.

After my initial disappointment that Carrie Underwood is no Julie Andrews and 'whatever his name was' is no Christopher Plummer, I decided to just enjoy the storyline and, of course, the music.

I was listening to the news the other morning and people have been giving that girl shit for taking on this role. She wasn't trying to be Julie Andrews, she wasn't trying to impersonate her in any fashion. She was told to make the role her own and that's what she did but of course, most of America, like you, weren't able to discern that.

She did a fine job. My wife just told me to accept that it's NOT the movie and appreciate it is a stage production.

Underwood's singing was excellent. Her acting was better than average.

That's how I heard it referred to, as a stage production. I didn't see it but I do listen to the Today show most mornings and they were pushing it for a couple weeks now. Apparently it was a big deal because it was produced live.

I like to say that the hills are alive with the sound of tards bleating.

I think the Rodgers and Hammerstein stage production of the book long superseded the movie.

The Sound of Music is always on stage, somewhere, with different cast members. Andrew Lloyd Webber's version is making rounds in the UK now, from what I read.

Sorta weird that people watch the stage production and compare the players to the movie actors. Julie Andrews is just one of thousands of Marias, all with different styles.

It's kinda like people watching Mel Gibson in the Hollywood movie production of Hamlet and complaining because his performance wasn't comparable to John Gielgud or Laurence Olivier's live theater versions. No shit.
