LEGAL AGE -
#1

New York is going to attempt to raise the age where one can legally buy cigarettes. My feeling on this is - if at 18 one is old enough to go to war then one is old enough to buy booze & cigarettes.

I think most communities require people to be 18 with some setting it at 19, NY wants to raise it to 21.

If that were the age to vote or go to war I probably wouldn't have a problem with it. My issue with it is the military thing, if you're old enough to die for your country you're old enough to smoke a cigarette.

I used to be able to buy my own smokes when I was 14 or so, I started when 11 or 12 so I don't really see the relevance of the age limit, it made no nevermind to me.

If smoking is so damn bad for people why not just ban them? Oh yeah.....taxes or money, and that is what makes the difference. Many laws have nothing to do with "safety" they may be touted as such but they really are just about money.

I don't think raising the age to 21 is going to pass. If it did, I doubt it will deter young people from smoking. If they don't get it by now after hearing all the bad things about smoking, they never will.

I would rather see them make the driving age 18.

I often read about NY wanting to change this or that and I'm always left with the opinion that those in charge up there are a controlling bunch.

QFT

The state of NY is a mess, and only getting worse. I can't wait to get out.

Congratulations on your escape.

I was dumb enough to move here semi-voluntarily.

Ha! That's exactly how I looked at it. I lived in the middle of no freakin' where. The nearest major airport was over 2 hrs. away, everything was hours away. It's a beautiful area though & I rent a cottage and vacation there occasionally.

I live in a scenically beautiful place as well, but the lunacy that goes on here in the state is maddening. Tax tax tax, but it's never enough.

Don't even get me started on the potholes.

There not really potholes, they are more like car caves.

I too moved here voluntarily. Worst move ever. Well, second. We are once again considering moving to GA. Although, now it's much more complicated.
