lard, head shaved.

An Arkansas police officer who was fatally shot during a traffic stop last year can be heard pleading for his life with his attacker in dashboard video released yesterday.

The 20-minute video, shot from Trumann police officer Jonathan Schmidt's squad car, shows how quickly the April 2011 night traffic stop turned deadly.
Jerry Lard, who was a passenger in the back seat of the stopped car, was convicted last month of capital murder for killing Schmidt. He has been sentenced to death.

RIP Officer Brian Bachmann

(CNN) -- A Texas constable and two others were killed Monday in a shooting near Texas A&M University, police said.

Rhonda Seaton, a spokeswoman with the College Station police department, told CNN that the three people killed were the constable, the man authorities say exchanged gunfire with law enforcement officers and an unidentified civilian.

A few minutes earlier, Asst. Chief Scott McCollum, from the same police department, told reporters that multiple people had been shot in the incident, which occurred around noon just a few blocks from the Texas A&M campus.

The dead included Brian Bachmann, a constable in Brazos County, according to McCollum. According to his Facebook campaign page, Bachmann was a 41-year-old Republican from College Station who had been a Brazos County sheriff's deputy since 1993.

A male civilian was also killed, the assistant police chief said. A post on the city of College Station's official Twitter page identified this third victim as a "civilian bystander."
Three others were injured in the shooting. They included two law enforcement officers, including one who was shot in the leg, and a female civilian who was undergoing surgery at a hospital, according to McCollum. College Station reported via Twitter that the two officers are at hospitals and "are said to have non-life threatening injuries."

Texas A&M issued a Code Maroon -- the university's emergency notification system -- at 12:29 p.m. CT (1:29 p.m. ET), telling people to avoid the area where there was a report of an "active shooter."

The entire ordeal lasted around 15 minutes, with an 12:44 p.m. update also posted on the university's website indicating the alleged gunman was by then "in custody."

Law enforcement officers responding to a "shots fired call" arrived at the scene and found the constable down in the front yard of a home, according to McCollum. These officers "began taking fire (and) they defended themselves," the assistant police chief said.

"They ended up shooting the gunman and taking him into custody," McCollum said.

McCollum said it was "still unknown at this time" why Bachmann went to the College Station address. But Officer Jason James, with the police department in Bryan adjacent to College Station, told CNN that "there is a possibility that it was an eviction."

(CNN) -- Two Louisiana sheriff's deputies died and two others were wounded early Thursday in what a state police official described as an ambush.

The assailant or assailants were still on the loose, Louisiana State Police Sgt. Ann Dusang said. State police SWAT teams, helicopters and troopers were involved in the search, she said.

The deputies from St. John the Baptist Parish, whose identities have not yet been released, were on traffic duty at the Bayou Steel Plant in LaPlace when the shootings happened in the parking lot around 5 a.m. (6 a.m. ET), Dusang said.

Exactly what happened remains unclear, but "they were ambushed," Dusang said.

The two wounded officers have been hospitalized, she added.

Off-duty Philly officer shot dead on sidewalk

RIP Officer Moses Walker Jr.

PHILADELPHIA – Authorities have identified the off-duty Philadelphia police officer who was shot and killed as he walked along a north Philadelphia street, and officials announced rewards totaling $30,000 for information leading to an arrest in the case.

Police say 40-year-old Officer Moses Walker Jr. had just finished his shift when he was shot several times around 5:50 a.m. Saturday, about four blocks from the 22nd District station. The 19-year veteran of the force and minister at Deliverance Evangelistic Church was pronounced dead at Hahnemann University Hospital.

Police say Walker was walking to public transportation in plain clothes and carrying a backpack at the time of the shooting. Authorities believe it may have been an attempted robbery, MyFoxPhilly.com reports.

His service weapon was found underneath him and authorities are trying to determine whether anything was taken from the backpack, according to the website.

Walker was reportedly offered a ride home by a co-worker but said, "It's a nice night. I’ll walk."

The city is offering a $20,000 reward and the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5 is offering a $10,000 reward.

A witness reported seeing a suspect fleeing the scene, police are now looking at surveillance tape from the area.

Lt. Raymond Evers says Walker's service weapon was found under his body, but police don't know whether it was discharged. They are checking to see if anything was taken from his backpack.

RIP Trooper Marshall Bailey

WALLBACK, W.Va. -- A State Police trooper from Clay County was killed, another trooper was in critical condition and two other people were shot in an incident Tuesday night at the Wallback park and ride off Interstate 79 in Roane County.

Family members identified the state trooper who was killed as Marshall Bailey, a resident of Poca.

The alleged shooter -- identified by several police sources as Luke Baber, 22, of Oak Hill -- was then shot by a sheriff's deputy shortly afterward.

In addition to the two troopers, a Roane County sheriff's deputy and the driver of a wrecker truck were also shot, State Police Sgt. Michael Baylous said.

At about 8 p.m. Tuesday, the two State Police troopers conducted a traffic stop at the park and ride with the suspect. The driver of the wrecker truck was also at the scene, Baylous said.

At some point during the traffic stop, the suspect pulled a gun and shot both troopers and the truck driver, Baylous said.

The man then fled the scene on foot. When police officers found him, they and the suspect engaged in a shootout, Baylous said. Baber was killed, and a Roane County deputy was wounded.

The suspect was killed, and the wounded officers were taken to CAMC General Hospital, Baylous said. There was no update on the shooting victims' conditions this morning, and State Police still had not released their names.

A motorcycle police officer escorting President Barack Obama's motorcade has died after being hit by a pickup truck.

Palm Beach County Sheriff's spokeswoman Teri Barbera says the Jupiter police officer was on Interstate 95 Sunday afternoon preparing to shut the roadway down when he was struck by a Ford F-150.

He was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. His identity has not been released.

Barbera says an investigation is ongoing and no charges have yet been filed against the driver.

Obama made a campaign appearance at the Palm Beach County Convention Center.

White House press secretary Jay Carney says the president was notified of the officer's death and "our thoughts and prayers are with the officer's family."

RIP Officer Pat O'Rourke

WEST BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Police surrounded a home in suburban Detroit where a man suspected in the fatal shooting of a police officer has barricaded himself inside, and gunfire was heard at the scene Monday.

Pat O'Rourke, a married father of four, was shot about 10 p.m. Sunday inside the home in West Bloomfield Township, police Lt. Timothy Diamond said. He was pronounced dead at a hospital, Diamond said.

O'Rourke was part of a team of four or five police officers who responded to a 911 call that a man had tried to kill himself or needed medical attention, he said.

They called the man's name as they climbed the stairs to the second floor and "were met by shots fired through the bedroom door and the drywall," Diamond said. The man has fired off several more gunshots since then, Diamond said.

Two other people escaped the home before the 911 call, and it wasn't clear if the suspected gunman was alone in house as the standoff continued. Diamond said the suspected gunman was involved in a "divorce situation"

"That's probably one of the things that precipitated this event," Diamond said.

In a memo to West Bloomfield officers, Lt. Curt Lawson said a "scene can turn in unexpected ways," despite the best training and preparation.

The Oakland County sheriff's department said Monday morning that its SWAT team was on the scene.

Officers closed roads in the area and evacuated nearby residents from their homes.

Officer killed in hit-and-run was 28-year vet

By Marcus K. Garner and Alexis Stevens
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Serving 26 years as a DeKalb County police officer wasn’t enough for Elgin L. Daniel. He wasn’t done.
“He was too young to retire,” older brother Edward Daniel told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “He figured he’d go back for a few more years, then call it quits for good.”

Two years ago, Elgin Daniel went to work as an officer for the smaller Henry County Police Department. Monday night, his life and career came to a tragic end when he was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver. While helping a stranded motorist on North Henry Boulevard in Stockbridge, Elgin and John Cook, a 58-year-old roadside assistance worker, were hit by a large Ford truck. The driver of the truck never stopped.
