I think they sometimes wrap that shit in seaweed which adds a whole 'nother level of gross to it. Blurg.

I don't care for the pickled ginger that comes with sushi. It's supposed to be a palette cleanser, but the flavor lingers in my mouth and ruins the next piece of sushi.

Don't tell any Japs I said that.

I like going to our local diner. I took Thing 1 there for lunch today. Everything is good. One thing I noticed around here is that almost every diner I've been too is owned by Greeks. Why is that?

Love sushi and sashimi (with wasabi and sake, especially).

Really like goat cheese, but I've only had it warm in salad with walnuts.

Goat meat; haven't tried it - that I know of.

Pickled ginger; no can do.

Tis true. 50 Pretty much the only "seafood" I ate growing up was salmon loaf which was freaking nasty.

Blasphemer!

How else would one cleanse their palate between courses?

Some idiot in LA actually concocted a "Michigan Roll".

Personally, I avoid sushi rolls . . . gimme nigiri or just plain ol' sashimi.

I won't even wager a guess on what is in a "Michigan Roll".

Sashimi is the way to go, I usually order the biggest boat they have.
Nice fresh Wasabi and a pile of ginger. Wash it down with a nice cols unfiltered saki..Nigori

I'd rather the nigiri or sashimi over the rolls too. If anything will choke you to death, it's one of those crazy rolls they make. The worst one is the spider roll, something about a soft shell crab wrapped in seaweed doesn't go down too well.

I love most seafood. Not a fan of sushi though.

Next time you're out and have an opportunity for sushi, try (if you haven't already) Unagi.

And back to Goat Cheese . . . I've used Chevre quite successfully and appealingly with Mediterranean style tomato sauce dishes (calzones, rustic pizzas, pasta topper).

I've even combined it with assorted herbs (it's similar to cream cheese) and used it as a schmear.

You must also try Uni. Both are very "lite" tasting, and even people that normally don't like sushi enjoy it.

I can't eat raw fish. I admit I don't know much about sushi. I can't get past the raw fish part.

Neither are fish per se and one isn't raw.

I love fresh sashimi. There's a Japanese restaurant in Melbourne that does the most delectable sashimi platter with kingfish, yellowfin tuna and salmon. The dipping sauce is so addictive I think they lace it with opium. They even grow their own fresh wasabi, not that imitation shit from a tube. The flavour is much more delicate and complex.

Why, a swig of sake, of course. Hot or cold, I'm all in.

I didn't even do the ginger when I lived in Japan, even though I mostly went with the flow on everything else. Just not a ginger fan.

When you come to San Francisco, I'd love to take you to Moki's. I can walk there; my favorite Japanese in the city.

No "Michigan Roll", but the assorted sashimi tray is so good.

The Tsunami hand-roll is great too.

Damn, I'm really craving Japanese food now...

If you knew all the different names of sushi you could quite possibly have a firm grasp on the Japanese language, enough to be able to ask for directions to the hospital, get in and out of an elevator and find the bathrooms if you were in Japan.

You really haven't been around much on that continent, have you? Cinnamon is very Arabic, they put it on their Corn Flakes, Raki and KY Jelly, but once you go black, meaning leaving the north of Africa, it gets less and less, apart from the East African coast, which is the part of Africa that's on the right side next to the big blue thing. Then you get to the South, which is down, and it gets more spicy.

I made a Malay Seafood Curry last year that was outstanding. Lots of work, but I need to do that again, its a south African dish
