Religion can be antithetical of spirituality -- and usually is.

So what are you thankful for this time around? Anything in particular?

Well things could be worse and I think that whenever I'm depressed. I've had things worse in my life so I feel good when I think about it. I'm thankful for the friends I have here, with all the PC bullshit this place has stayed the same.

I'm thankful every day for having all of the basic necessities for life. That's something that's made a big difference in my life. I'm also thankful my mother is still alive. We didn't always have a good relationship, so it's grace to be able to enjoy that.

Mock is a hole-in-the-wall, but I like hole-in-the-walls because you don't have to put on airs for the benefit of shitheads you tend to despise. hah

I'm starting to feel the love and it feels like Calo dogfood, the good thing is that its mooshy and old people can eat it. Cutting up celery pieces makes it crunchy.

One of my local farms is offering a Thanksgiving harvest basket this year as part of their CSA program.

It comes with:
Potatoes
Sweet potatoes
Brussel sprouts
Carrots
Onions
Mushrooms
Fresh cranberries
Brine spices
Stuffing spices
gravy mix and recipes for everything.

Supposedly enough for 4 people, which works for me.

If you pre ordered before November 1st, it is $30.00,  but after Nov 1st it goes up to $45.00.
I think I'm going to pre order one today.    I would be able to pick it up the Tuesday before Thanksgiving,  and stay the hell out of the grocery store that week.

As a person who is just learning to cook that seems awesome.

$30.00 sounds very reasonable!

I thought so, too.  Especially for locally grown fresh vegetables.    I've been to this farm before,  and I like it very much.   They offer CSA boxes all year round,  and you don't have to pay a huge amount up front.

It's a 25.00 fee to become a csa member,  and you only pay for the boxes/weeks that you want.   They are between 35 & 40 per box, but they partner with other local farms,  so you get a good variety.
Last month they had 20 pound boxes of red tomatoes for 10 bucks a box, and green tomatoes for 5 bucks a box.   I  know most people don't can their own spaghetti sauce or picalilie (I know I didn't spell it right,  but auto correct wouldn't help me), anyway,  I have enough sauce and lilie to last until next summer,  so I'm happy.

Those prices are absolutely worth it! I love that they don't try to squeeze every penny they can from their neighbors/customers and it would make me want to buy their produce rather than the supermarket's.

I tried a bruised and blem club but it was a rip off.

I tried the Misfits Market and it was great at first and then I started getting rotten produce in every order while at the same time their prices went up.

There is something around here called Produce Junction. I keep thinking I'd like to check it out, but I haven't yet.

Whelp, I have to go shopping again. Through out the  year,  I  was told over and over again by my children,  that they wouldn't be here for Thanksgiving,  and I get it.  Older children have families,  inlaws and other things to contend with,  but over the weekend all the children,  plus a few ex foster children,  asked if they could come for Thanksgiving.   I went from dinner for 2 to dinner for 30.

I had already bought a 10 pound Turkey.   I have already ordered and paid for a Thanksgiving csa box.

Now I have to plan for appetizers,  a bigger dinner,  and dessert.

I'm not complaining,  really,  because I enjoy hosting a crowd,  but I wish they had told me 2 weeks ago,  before I bought everything for 'dinner for 2'

Can they contribute and bring some food too?

I hate that last minute shit my family likes to put on me. I don’t count on anything they say because I know the plans will most likely change.

Growing up in a military family my family would often invite airmen over that had no where to go for the holidays. It is a fond memory I have.
I got to work today and someone had sent me a message inviting me to thier family's dinner. Since I work on both Wednesday and Friday I didn't know what I was going to do for thursday since there is no transport on that day.
I feel so lucky!

Also-what do I bring as a guest? I usually like to bring flowers, not sure what I can get ordered by then.

I see your dilemma given your location. Oy! When does the ferry come again?

The one that delivers freight and groceries comes on Mon, Wed, Fri and Sunday.

Alrighty, so you have a couple chances to get something. Are you interested in bringing a dessert? Is it hard to get flowers last minute?
