Hi, very nice you came on here! I listened to the Song it was lovely! I cannot get over how caring all the people are and how generous, the reward jumped from 5,000 to 25,000 dollars, different search agencies coming in to help. I'm Praying they find her soon! Thanks!

Missing Ohio Woman's Fiance Has 'Gut Feeling' She's Alive

The fiance of missing Ohio woman Katelyn Markham believes that she is still alive despite having vanished over two weeks ago.

"My gut feeling is that she's alive and that she's ok," John Carter told ABCNews.com. "I have to believe she's alive. I have to believe that I'm going to have her in my arms soon."

Carter, 23, was the last person to see Markham before she vanished. Police told ABC Affiliate WCPO that they have few leads in Markham's disappearance. There is no evidence of foul play, but it can't be ruled out, police said.

Texas Equusearch, a mounted search and recovery team, will begin assisting in the search for the 22-year-old woman Tuesday. A digital billboard has been erected in northern Kentucky to aid in the search for Markham. Search parties have been fanning out at parks and wooded areas near the bride-to-be's Fairfield, Ohio, home. Another search is planned for today.

Markham left behind her car, keys and purse. She took her cell phone with her. Calls to that phone go straight to voicemail.

Katelyn Markham Has Been Missing for More Than Two Weeks

Her fiance, Carter, said that he visited her at her home on Aug. 13. He said the two discussed their hopes to move to Colorado in November. Markham is supposed to finish her bachelor's degree in graphic design this September.

"We were just kind of talking about Colorado...We made plans for the next day...and then she had to go to bed because she always has to get up early," he said.

Markham was working at David's Bridal and at a book store. Carter said that he received multiple text messages from Markham after he left her in the early hours of Aug. 14. One of those text messages asked him to burn some of her bank documents.

"She had a big old bag full of stuff from the bank and so she had me go and burn them," Carter said. "Personally, it really was just an innocent little chore she wanted me to do for her and basically I went to a friend's house and I got rid of them."

The Search for Katelyn Markham

He said the request did not seem odd to him and that his own mom had suggested she burn the bank documents since Markham didn't have a paper shredder.

Carter said he grew nervous when Markham stopped responding to his text messages.

"I went to her house and she was gone without her car, without her purse, without her keys," he said.

Markham's birthday was just two days after she vanished. Carter said spending her birthday away from her was "pretty much the worst day of my life."

He described Markham as "pretty happy" and a strong person.

"She cares about everyone. She works in customer service because she likes dealing with people. She likes to help people," Markham said.

There is a $5,000 reward for the discovery of Markham. She is 5-foot-3 with brown hair and weighs approximately 120 pounds. If you have any information, call the Fairfield Police Department at (513) 829-8201

Hi, I'm Kitty -

A total newbie here. I just wanted to share thoughts and raise some questions if that's cool to do on one's first visit here.

John Carter strikes me as lacking in spontaneity. Some of what he says about Katelyn seems rehearsed. He doesn't appear to be fast on his feet. To kill someone in a rage, remove all evidence and cover your tracks so well in a fairly short period of time ( if he did go to his friend's house) takes some talent in that area - almost serial killer efficiency - does he seem like he has that skill set? That is unless the timeline is false.

Who else spoke with her that evening/night/morning? Did she usually leave her phone on at night? You would think that she would if she expected to be alone in the house. I'm guessing whatever happened occured between the last time she spoke to someone on the phone (other than Carter) and the time her phone went off.

Why did the father and sister take boxes of Katelyn's stuff from the residence after police released them? Where is her mother?

I agree that he seems to lack spontaneity and commented on it earlier in this thread. What we don't know is how he reacts to anger. Is he such a control freak that he goes off into a fit of rage if anything throws off his plans?

We know very little about the timeline of that Saturday through Sunday. He could have killed her earlier in the evening and sent himself those text messages. He had all night and Sunday morning (up until the time he went to work) to hide the "evidence".

Who else spoke with her that evening/night/morning?

Nobody else has come forward to say that they spoke with her, other than JC. We don't know if she typically leaves her phone on at night.

Where is her mother?

Her mother lives in the same town, but their relationship was/is strained. We don't know why.

FAIRFIELD, Ohio - The search for a missing Fairfield woman is getting help from a nationally known search agency. Texas Equusearch , an organization known for its work in the search for Caylee Anthony and Natalie Halloway, will assist the local community in locating 22-year-old Katelyn Markham.

Tuesday morning, Tim Miller, the agency's founder and director, met with the Fairfield Police Department.

"Right now we're on our way to find a spot to use as a command center and we've got a couple of options we're looking at," Miller said after meeting with police.

He says that churches are often the best places to use as a command center because they offer a lot of parking and have office space and equipment.

"We've got a lot of 'Recon' work to do today along with mapping of the area. We'll also be meeting with the family as well," said Miller.

"The man has resources like you have no idea," Miller's colleague David Rader said on Monday. "Anywhere from sight scan Sonar to drones. He is well connected and if we need something, he will get it here."

Rader is a volunteer with Texas Equusearch and S.T.A.R.R. (Search Tactics and Rescue/Recovery). He never knew Markham but says that's no reason not to help.

"There's some people that volunteer for different things," said Rader. "I would hope that if I had a family member that was missing that they would come out and help me."

That's exactly what nearly 50 volunteers did Monday evening off Buell Road near Triple Creek.

"We are going through the forest and we are checking underneath bushes and things like that looking for any kind of evidence," Monroe volunteer Dana Stuhlreyer said. "It is a needle in a haystack, but I think with the large group, there's bound to be something that we find."

The volunteers searched until dusk and no new evidence was found.

well well. the fiance was on phone tonight with nancy grace and she asked him if he had taken a poly. he said no.

only problem is, last week he told her he had taken one and "passed". i can't believe she didn't call him on it. his supporters are frantically trying to explain that he took a voice stress analysis as opposed to a poly. and didn't know the difference. i call bullshit.

there was other inconsistent stuff too, either he is stoned, tired and confused, or he has a very low IQ. he should shut up and lawyer up NOW.

i've been following the threads on the "katelyn markham's disappearance: considering everything" group on facebook. tonight someone posted information of the timeline of events before katelyn's disappearance. just thought i'd repost if anyone was interested in seeing it.

Friday August 12, 2011:

Katelyn was at work; she spoke with her family in the evening/late afternoon; she and John went to the Festival that night even though Katelyn really didn’t want to go.

Saturday August 13, 2011:

Just before 11 a.m. Katelyn posted on a friend’s FB page when he posted he was going to S.H. Festival in the morning.
John arrived at Katelyn’s around 7:30 or 8pm
John left around 11, 11:30 p.m. ,Midnight with a bag of old bank documents she asked him to burn;

Sunday August 14, 2011:

John went to a friend’s house and burned the documents (in the rain so not sure how long this would take);

Between the time John left (11 or 11:30 or Midnight) John and Katelyn text back and forth a few times about him burning her documents and how she’d like to be there and so on.

12:45 a.m. Katelyn’s phone or GPS is turned off and/or battery was removed.

12:52 John receives a picture of a picture from Katelyn.

John stays with friend talking and hanging out with t.v. as background noise until 2 a.m.

John goes home and watches more t.v. and tries to get tired until he finally goes to bed around 4 a.m.

Right before bed he sends Katelyn a “good morning” text.

John gets up at 4:30 p.m. that afternoon 12 ½ hours later, evidently having been successful “getting tired.”

At some point between the time he gets up and 7 p.m. John notices that he has not received a “Good Morning” text from Katelyn and/or John notices that Katelyn has not responded to his “Good Morning” text.

John also goes to work sometime during this same time period. 4:30p.m. to 7p.m.

John continues to text and call and gets no answer from Katelyn.

Sometime before 7 pm, John asks his boss if he can leave to go check on Katelyn

John goes to Katelyn’s house.

John sees Katelyn’s car in the parking lot and his heart sinks because he knows she and her car should be at work.

John goes to door and immediately uses his/hidden key to open door.

John discovers that Katelyn is not inside, dog locked in bedroom which is not normal procedure, that Katelyn’s purse, keys and “everything else except her phone” is there.

By 7pm John has determined that Katelyn is gone.

John leaves at some point after this discovery

Over the next hour, after having determined that Katelyn is missing with nothing except her cell phone and John calls Katelyn’s Dad and John’s Mom and a few of Katelyn’s friends to see if they’ve seen/talked with Katelyn.

Approximately one hour after 7 p.m. John heads back and on the way back calls 911 John waits for police.

Katelyn’s Father comes to the condo, presumably after John calls him and before or while John is calling the police.

FAIRFIELD - More than 120 people - including Katelyn Markham's fiancé John Carter - gathered early Thursday at Fairfield West Baptist Church for the most intensive search yet for the missing 22-year-old art student.

Markham's father, Dave, was among them and stood before the crowd during a briefing on ground rules for the search coordinated by Texas EquuSearch Mounted Search and Recovery Team.

There was prayer. Fairfield West Associate Pastor James Dick thanked God for his "guidance, strength, love and patience" for searchers. He asked for prayers from Dave Markham.

EquuSearch founder Tim Miller turned to Dave Markham in front of the crowd.

"Dave, it does not look good," Miller said about the prospect of finding his daughter alive. "But we are going to hold onto that hope until we know different."

Searchers, armed with fluorescent flags to mark evidence and the areas they checked, broke into teams and were dispatched to at least 10 locations in Butler and Hamilton counties, the farthest eight miles from the Dorshire Drive townhouse that Markham shared with her father.

More than 40 areas have been identified for subsequent searches, Miller said.

FBI statistics show that 86 percent of missing people are found within a 12 mile radius of where they were abducted and murdered, he said.

"Those numbers and our experience in what we've done are pretty darn accurate," Miller said.

If searchers found a body, they were instructed to have their team leader call Miller, who planned to stay at the command center at Fairfield West. He would call police to get to the scene. Texts, Twitter, Facebook and other social media communication were banned.

No other search teams were to be told, Miller said, for fear that word would spread and the media would go racing to the scene to start reporting the discovery before the Markhams were told.

A highly specialized team of searchers have wrapped up today's planned search for a missing Fairfield woman. Texas Equusearch Mounted Search and Recovery Team members combed the area, looking for 22 year old Katelyn Markham.

A smaller group will search an area later this evening, with the next larger search planned for Saturday.

I think it's possible she's alive, but highly unlikely. She probably died the day/night she "went missing". I hope TES recovers her for her family. If the boyfriend killed her, he's doing the right things (from a defense standpoint) by at least playing the part of the concerned loved one who is doing everything the help find her. But, if he's the one, I think his story will fall apart as he and it already sound suspicious, imo.

I would be shocked if Katelyn was found alive! The boyfriend just comes across as such a clod......I think she possibly went missing on Friday night after the Festival at the Church, a friend recalled sitting with Katelyn & John on the grass at the festival surely the woman friend would remember what Katelyn was wearing - if that outfit is not in her townhouse that would tell me she never did get home. Remember John told the dispatcher on the 911 call "I know you're not supposed to report a person missing until it has been 24 hours" If she never got home Friday Night pretend my gosh! it would be more than 24 hours, I thought it was bizarre him saying this to the dispatcher at 911. That pretty much sums things up - IMO.

Markham's fiance explains conflicting statements made to Nancy Grace


FAIRFIELD, OH (FOX19) -

Katelyn Markham's fiance, John Carter, is explaining conflicting statements he made to HLN's Nancy Grace.

Carter reported Markham missing the evening of Aug. 14 after not hearing from her all day.

Grace asked Carter during an interview last week if he had taken a polygraph test and he said that he did.

However, during another interview on Wednesday night, Carter said that he didn't take a polygraph.

Carter explained the discrepancy to FOX19's Jennifer Grove on Friday.

He said he had a voice stress analysis test shortly after Katelyn went missing, not a polygraph test. The voice stress analysis is a form of a lie detector test.

Carter said he now realizes the difference between a polygraph and a voice stress analysis. He says Nancy Grace didn't give him a chance to explain what kind of lie detector test he took.

Carter says he will no longer speak live on Grace's show, and will only speak to her producers. He feels her interviews stopped being focused on Katelyn and zeroed in on him.

Texas EquuSearch, a mounted search and recovery team, has organized a massive search for Markham that began on Thursday and continues through Saturday. Volunteers interested in searching should arrive at the command center, Fairfield West Baptist Church, 5345 Muskoph Road, at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Volunteers are asked to dress appropriately for searching in wooded areas - long pants and long-sleeve shirts - and bring their own packed lunch and plenty of water. Searchers must be at least 18 years old and bring a photo ID.

Those FB posts are very interesting. The sister is half-heartedly defending him but even she doesn't sound convinced he didn't do it. More of her comments:

I've been following some of the FB chatter on and off today. I have not read it all. I must say that JC's sister really stepped up with a lot of dignity. Yes, it does sound like she might even suspect her own brother, but she still wants the focus to be on finding Katelyn. It must be so hard on all the families involved.

I do find it interesting that JC took down his FB page. Any word yet on whether or not he as gotten a lawyer?
