Sat. 9/3/11

Saturday’s search was a crucial one as it will be the last of this long holiday weekend, but volunteers hope to get back to work next week.

FAIRFIELD, Oh. - While the search on Friday slowed due to the heat and a light turnout, Saturday's search for Katelyn Markham, who has been missing since mid August is much more intense with over 180 searchers and a 21-person Horse Search team from central Ohio.

The search began around 9 a.m on Saturday and is again encompassing the areas near her home and where searchers believe she was last seen. Though they have been fighting the heat, volunteers, along with the Texas Equusearch team vow to continue throughout the day on Saturday.

Along with the search groups, Cincinnati restauranteur Jeff Ruby came out and offered $10,000 dollars to help the search continue until Katelyn Markham is found.

i believe that was a donation to TES, which is much deserved! Notworthy

Hey. I just wanted to say thank you for your efforts in finding katelyn. I'm not allowed to communicate about anything anymore so ill no longer be on this page. Also, I will not be seeing any of you at the searches because family members of both katelyn ad john (and john himself) are not allowed to search anymore. Please, keep doing what you all do, I know were going to find katelyn!

The Texas group organizing a massive search for a missing 22-year-old Fairfield girl is temporarily suspending the search for the rest of the weekend.

Texas EquuSearch founder Tim Miller says the search is being suspended due to the extreme heat in the area and to give searchers time to "decompress." Miller will be returning to Texas for the rest of the weekend to help with a fundraiser for the organization.

On Saturday, volunteers participated in long day of searching for Katelyn Markham, utilizing divers and horse teams. Markham was last seen by her fiance August 14th.

Texas EquuSearch is scheduled to resume their search on Tuesday.

TES:

09/03/11 — The search for Katelyn Markham has been TEMPORARILY SUSPENDED. We plan to return to Fairfield on Thursday, September 8, 2011. Thank you to everyone who participated in the search this week.

thursday! tells me something is moving in case.

I noticed that too. I believe no matter what your comment is it should be listened to. I have previously posted comments about my views about who took her, and I believe they were deleted too.

I agree with you that he sounds rehearsed. I feel in my heart that he did something to her. That is my opinion though, and I hope I am wrong about him, but chances are I am not wrong about him.

Lucky Girl 99, Hi, did you know Katelyn? are you from the region? Just curious!

Katelyn's fiance is very odd! I didn't see any sorrow most fellows would be devastated and bloody angry if their woman was taken like this.

I think possibly Katelyn went missing sometime Friday evening after the Church Festival.

What are your thoughts Lucky Girl 99? Thanks!

that happens sometimes, a software thingy.

my comment in Meow's intro thread:

i really want to read your thoughts in the Katelyn Markham thread. i am pretty sure something is up because TES only searched for one day. all that gear, horses etc. they had to drag to Ohio, then leave? (with Ruby's check )

i really do not attribute that to the weather. that's a lot of effort, expense and work for one day's search, weather or not.

and it's not a dig at TES, i admire them.

LC in my post in the Introduction forum you said something about TES only searching for one day. They actually arrived in Fairfield on Tuesday 830 and started searching on 9/1. I think Saturday's search got a lot more publicity due to the search being on a grander scale and Ruby showing up with a check. Ruby loves the spotlight.

Miller always meets with law enforcement before searches start and undoubtedly gets insider information. The following is a quote from a local news article:

>>EquuSearch founder Tim Miller turned to Dave Markham in front of the crowd.

"Dave, it does not look good," Miller said about the prospect of finding his daughter alive. "But we are going to hold onto that hope until we know different."<<

Miller knows something.

On another note.
I think the boyfriend will crack soon. He's starting to trip up on his story. Things aren't adding up and there are too many inconsistencies.

LC I didn't take that as a dig at TES and yes the effort involved is great.
I also just read that Miller had a fundraiser going on Sunday in TX, hence the reason for leaving. But why wait until Thursday to resume the search when it was originally slated for Tuesday...

John's stepmother just posted this up on Facebook the Katelyn Markham's disappearance considering everything. Sad situation!

"I am Megs mother,Johns stepmom. I am the one who asked Megs to stop communicating under the advisement of Tim Miller, Equusearch who has lived through this type of situation before, and my husband (her step-dad and John's dad). I have been witnessed to Megs slow but sure "falling apart". Every negative comment made about John or family is eating away at her and she is losing faith. I cannot and will not allow that to happen. Therefore to recap, I DEBI CARTER ASKED MY DAUGHTER TO STOP BECAUSE I LOVE HER AND I WANT HER TO KEEP HER SANITY, HER LOVE OF PEOPLE AND HER FAITH IN TACT. Since on this site it is a no-win situation for any family member involved. You can post anything you like about this or about me. I WILL NOT RESPOND. Good night and Good Luck."

There was some chatter on the Katelyn Markham's Disappearance-considering-everything about another "friend" that was at her townhouse on Saturday 13 August, and that this friend left "before" John did that night.

With LE not giving any information, the local rumor mill is running amok.

I hope TES is able to find Katelyn soon.

LC, once Katelyn is found, would LE give out more info on the case, or just name a person of interest/arrest a suspect?

Has Fairfield LE declared this a homicide investigation? Or do they have to wait until remains are found since the missing person is a legal adult?

some depts. will give out only the bare facts, an arrest (or not) and whatever is public information. a judge (or the DA may not talk) could impose a gag order on all principals. the ME may or may not release a cause of death, but only a manner of death i.e. homicide, accident, suicide, undetermined.
i think in this case they are saying nothing more until a body is found. or there is a confession. that is in order to not compromise the investigation and taint a possible trial. the less that is out there the better for authorities.

i think that once a body is found the public will only get the minimal facts. much like the Celina Cass case.

Found this interview given by David Markham (Katelyn's father) on 4 September.

“Katelyn’s a very remarkable, enthusiastic, energetic woman. For 22 years old, she’s known what she wanted for the past two or three years. She set her goals to achieve them—checking them off one by one,” he said.

One of those goals was graduating from college with her bachelor’s degree, which she was getting ready to do. She was learning about graphic design, but her dad said she was ready for something different because of the tough economy. She was thinking of her future.

“Seeing how the job market is flat, particularly in the commercial arts and the graphics design business. She was going to venture out, try something new before she got into her career," David said. "Now’s the perfect time to do it before you get started, and you know, I thought it was great. She’s maturing and growing up to be a nice, responsible tribute to society.”

And he’s not the only one who thought so.

“I’ve had a lot of friends and co-workers who have talked about her lately and said that how she made their day better, just by her attitude. Everybody has those days that they don’t want to go to work or be there, tired or whatever, just don’t feel like it. And they said that when she got there, they tend to forget that and have a good day. So the influence that she had on people was remarkable.”

No where in the interview does he mention that Katelyn was engaged. Neither does he mention John Carter.

Cheyne, thanks for posting the interview - it was very nice he gave an interview over the holiday weekend like that - this is a father that truly cares about his daughter and is very proud of her! I hope and pray she turns up soon. Interesting he didn't mention Mr. Carter!

Thanks!

I sure hope the weather down at Fairfield is decent for their search to-morrow it's miserable up by Toledo non stop rain & wind around 59 degrees. searching is rough enough without bad weather yet. Wishing everyone down there good luck!

huh?? don't worry? is she in heaven perhaps? or don't search? what?

I caught that too. I think he is way deep in this.
I just kept thinking, while watching his interview with the tv
reporter..."omg, youre talking too much. youre gonna get caught"
Way too many details, not enough tears (or even signs of
being upset).

was reading on the consider everything page...
a gentleman there that claims to have had a past in LE,
was thinking about the burning documents.
Was it a common practice for them...OR...was he covering his ass because
he already smelled like smoke from burning something...(implying a body).
Makes ya think....
