Isn't it creepy how any neighbor or co-worker could be someone who visits an S&M dungeon and you would have no idea?!

Has Bob Bashara become mentally unstable? His mother-in-law thinks so. Over the weekend, she filed a police report against her son-in-law claiming she's worried for her safety.

This all started after a "Dateline NBC" special aired on Friday about the Jane Bashara murder case. In it, Bob Bashara, his mistress, his S&M lifestyle was under the microscope. He claimed in this piece that his wife approved of some of this and when Jane Bashara's mother heard this, she had enough.

Upset with what she saw on national television, Lorraine Engelbrecht picked up the phone and called her son-in-law Saturday blasting him for how he portrayed his wife. Because of his reaction, she filed a police report with Roseville police.

"Bob tried to calm her down," said David Griem, Bashara's attorney.

According to the police report, Engelbrecht felt just the opposite. During their initial phone conversation, she told Bashara to stop dragging her daughter's name through the mud, not to bring her down to this level. She then hung up the phone.

She claims Bashara called back twice pleading to her about his innocence.

"Indicated to her let's think about the children. We shouldn't be fighting. We should be praying together for Jane and for the kids," Griem explained. excuse me while i vomit.

She called Tim Matouk, an investigator from the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, who advised her to make a police report.

"I have information that he instigated the report, helped with the report for his own reasons and that is his investigation of Bob Bashara," Griem said. Bullshit

"This isn't an investigation. It's a lynch mob being lead by a rogue cop, and all we're asking for is a fair and impartial investigation," said Griem. GO FUCK YOURSELF GRIEM.

Bashara ponders lonely future, may write book

While Bob Bashara waits to see if prosecutors will charge him for the strangulation of his wife, the Grosse Pointe Park property manager ponders his future and the prospect of someday writing a book about his experiences.

Bashara, who Grosse Pointe Park police have labeled a person of interest in the murder of Jane Bashara, said he’s been ostracized from the life he once knew and feels he has been falsely portrayed by anonymous prosecutors and the media as an out-of-control playboy who got a sexual thrill from causing pain to women.

“The bottom line is I am a pacifist,” he said. “I am not a violent person in any way and I could never be mean or evil-spirited. I’m a man who owns rental properties, and who cared for two women. But I loved my wife, Jane. Without her, I have nothing.”

Jane Bashara, a Mount Clemens native who worked for a marketing firm, was married for 26 years to Bob Bashara and the couple have two grown children. The two were well known in the Grosse Pointe community, raising thousands of dollars for various school and charitable projects.

Her body was found Jan. 25 in the back of her SUV in an alley on Detroit’s east side, about seven miles from her home where she had been reported missing by her husband the night before. An autopsy determined she had been strangled.

In the days and weeks after the discovery, lurid details of Bob Bashara’s life began to surface. There were reports of an affair with another woman who said the two were preparing to launch a new life together, and an alternative lifestyle involving sex dungeons.

During a telephone interview with The Macomb Daily, Bashara was asked what his future holds if he is not charged. Although he may not want to, he may have to leave Grosse Pointe Park. “I was happy. I had a very good life,” he said while tending to one of his rental properties near 11 Mile and Jefferson in St. Clair Shores.

“I would come home from my volunteer work with a sense of satisfaction and to my wife, who I loved dearly. Yes, I cared for two women. Does that mean I would leave Jane? Absolutely not.” The other woman, Rachel Gillett, has said in interviews that she and Bob had a lengthy relationship. She said he told her he was divorced and she believed him.

The two traveled together and were seen out together in public. She said they planned to buy a new house and start a new life with another woman in an alternative lifestyle arrangement.

In recent weeks, however, Gillett has sought a personal protection order, saying she now is in fear of Bashara after he has repeatedly tried to contact her. He has apologized for that and says he will no longer try to communicate with her.

As for his role in the bondage and domination community where he was known as “Master Bob,” Bashara said the public doesn’t understand the lifestyle, adding he may someday write a book about his experiences. He declined to be too specific because of his children, but did talk in general terms.

“Most people don’t understand the whole bondage and domination thing,” he said. “Many couples could benefit by the principles. In this lifestyle, I met women who had been abused and befriended them, empowered them, to understand their needs of submission in a positive way. This isn’t about rough sex; it’s not about sex at all.”

He pointed to the popularity of “50 Shades of Grey,” the best-selling erotic novel with similar themes: A successful businessman with a loving family is enticed by another woman with her own dark desires, as evidence of the public’s appetite for something wildly different.

“Ten years ago, there was no approval of gay marriage but now it’s legal in eight states and the president of the United States is approving of it. That lifestyle has become more understood and accepted over the past 10 years. I think this lifestyle will eventually become more understood as well,” he said. “This is not about men beating women for their satisfaction. I detest those people. This is not about S&M. Domination and submission, that’s what it’s about. It’s about a mental mindset.”

None of Bashara’s private life would have ever made headlines if his wife hadn’t been brutally beaten and killed.

Police have charged Joe Gentz with her death and conspiracy to commit murder.

A former Bashara handyman, Gentz reportedly confessed, telling police alternately that he was forced at gunpoint by Bob Bashara to kill the woman, while other times saying he was given cash and a used car for the murder. He remains in jail awaiting a June 11 hearing in 36th District Court in Detroit to determine whether he his mentally stable enough to understand the charges against him.

David Griem, Bashara’s defense attorney, said he suspects the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office is waiting for Gentz to be found competent and then strike a plea bargain deal with him to testify against Bashara.

If Bashara is charged at some point, Griem said he would question the timing.

“I think the prosecutor’s office would then be in a position to have to explain what was the triggering event that caused them to seek a warrant against Mr. Bashara,” Griem said. “What evidence would they have that was not present a day ago, a week ago, four months ago. It would be Joe Gentz being found competent.”

Maria Miller, a spokeswoman for the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, said Prosecutor Kym Worthy had no comment.

For his part, Bashara said he is “scared as hell” of being charged. He believes the prosecutor’s office is “driving a smear campaign with no evidence” against him, waiting for him to crack.

“The reason I hold my head high even though I’ve lost everything is Jane. The bottom line is I wasn’t there when she died and I so wish I had been home that night to protect her,” he said.

42 After 3 weeks of planning, today is the kick-off of the Justice for Jane campaign! 42

Below is the press release that was sent today to the major media outlets in Detroit and the Grosse Pointes.
  • PRESS RELEASE

    Saturday June 9, 2012
Re: Justice for Jane (Bashara) campaign

Saturday, June 9 is the kick-off of the Justice for Jane campaign in the Grosse Pointe community. This campaign is the display of items with the words “Justice for Jane” including yard signs, ribbon magnets for cars, wristbands, and purple tree ribbons. This first distribution of items is very limited, with future distributions planned as new requests are received.

The goal is to have as many of them on view as possible before June 22, which would have been her 57th birthday. We believe Jane would be proud and deeply gratified that her community joined together to avenge the terrible wrong of her senseless death.

The purpose of the campaign is to show in a visible way the Grosse Pointe community's desire to bring to justice whoever murdered one of its most respected members. It affirms a trust in law enforcements' efforts on her case and stands behind them.

Sale of campaign items serves a dual purpose in providing funds for a commemorative vigil for Jane which will be held later this summer, date to be determined. All proceeds in excess of expenses will be donated to one of Jane’s favorite charities.

This first wave of signs and tree ribbons is very limited as they were sold with no media exposure or advertising --- simply from those who view Justice4Jane.forumotion.com. We fully expect many more requests when people see them and hear about the campaign. They will be distributed every week for as long as being ordered. The wristbands and car magnets are due in by June 15. To date, the count ordered is: yards signs, 46; wristbands, 52; ribbon car magnets, 23; tree ribbons, 14.

Costs of these items are: yard signs $15; wristbands, tree ribbons, and ribbon magnets, $5 each. To buy or make donations, email [email protected], re: orders/donations. Purchasers will be notified of the pickup date and location in Grosse Pointe.

The organizers wish to remain in the background (not take the spotlight) and let the campaign speak for itself. We truthfully would like little media coverage, but realize that is not feasible with such a high profile case. For any questions, please email [email protected] with the reporter’s name and contact information. A volunteer will email the reporter with the requested information. Thank you for your consideration.

Since this forum was started less than a month ago (May 13), we are pleased with this progress. Onward and upward!

FREEP

During a nearly two-week period this month, Bob Bashara solicited and paid someone to have Joseph Gentz, a witness in his wife's murder case, killed in the jail before a July court hearing, Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy announced today.

A warrant has been signed for Bashara, who will be arraigned at 1 p.m. on a charge of solicitation to murder, a felony that carries up to life in prison.

Bashara is accused of soliciting a man he had prior dealings with to kill Gentz, a handyman who told investigators Bashara hired him to kill Jane Bashara at their Grosse Pointe Park home in January, sources previously told the Free Press.

"The evidence will show that Mr. Bashara wanted Mr. Gentz killed because he ... didn't want him to testify in any future proceedings, should there be any," Worthy said

Gentz, who has been charged in Jane Bashara's murder, was deemed competent to stand trial after a state psychological examination. He is now undergoing an independant examination before any plea bargaining begins, attorneys for both sides have indicated.

Though he's only facing one count of solicitation to murder, Worthy said investigators discovered Bashara had also solicited a second person to have Gentz killed.

Worthy said Bashara is accused of having several meetings between June 8 and June 25 with a person he paid to have Gentz killed in jail before Gentz's July 23 court date, Worthy said.

He met with this person "for the purpose of hatching a plan to kill Mr. Gentz in jail," Worthy said. "Our evidence will show that Mr. Bashara paid ... this other individual to kill Mr. Gentz."

Gentz, who is charged with first-degree murder in Jane Bashara’s Jan. 24 death, is being held at the William Dickerson Detention Facility in Hamtramck.

Worthy would not comment on Bashara's relationship with the person and wouldn't say where they met or how many times.

A source told the Free Press that authorities have Bashara on tape – something Bashara’s attorney, David Griem, said he expected. Audio and sometimes video recordings are expected in these kinds of cases, he said.

“You should never bring this charge without having tapes,” Griem said.

Police previously called Bashara a person of interest in his wife’s killing after he failed a polygraph examination, but he has not been charged in his wife’s death.

Jane Bashara was strangled and left in her SUV, which was dumped in an east side Detroit alley, where it was found Jan. 25.

On Monday, Bob Bashara was arrested by Grosse Pointe Park police at his commercial property on Mack Avenue – the same property where authorities said he had a sex dungeon in the basement.

Worthy said prosecutors will request that Bashara not be given a bond after his arraignment.

"These are serious charges," she said.

Griem has said he thinks his client believes this case is part of a set-up. hah Speaking with reporters Monday night after Bashara’s arrest, Griem told reporters bond would be hard to get given the allegations.

“Bond is going to be incredibly difficult in a case where allegedly someone was trying to hire someone to kill a witness,” Griem said Monday. “I think that bond in that situation is almost going to be impossible.”

[Image: bob-bashara-mugshot-waynepng-0abf84e414bea3e5.png]

In arguing for a high bond, Assistant Wayne County Prosecutor Lisa Lindsey said that Bashara posed a "substantial danger" and that "It is clear he is unraveling."

Bashara must not have contact with any witnesses. If Bashara happens to post bond, he must turn in his passport, driver's license and must have a GPS tether.
