I agree that most people profile to one degree or another but you ought to be cognizant of it and it still doesn't justify a regular citizen chasing someone around based on nothing but a hunch.

MS, that's an interesting theory but I don't know if the evidence will support it. If the girlfriend's account of the cellphone call is accurate, I believe it made it sound like Z confronted T.

It will be interesting to see a map (so to speak) of where different events occurred.

I would think the prosecution has some evidence to justify their charge although I'm surprised about the 2nd degree charge too.

The dude was the NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH. What part of that do you folks not get?

It's a shitty mixed neighborhood. You have to nail your shit down or black people steal it.

If they didn't all look alike, they wouldn't have this profiling problem.

Me too, I would have thought manslaughter with the 10 20 life rule would have been enough.

I profile all the time. I don't give a shit if it pisses people off.
If I get on a plane and there's a rag-head on there, my ass is getting off.

Seriously? You would get off a plane because of one raghead? And forfeit the plane fare?

I don't believe you because I know you're not that stupid.

I call bullshit.

When 28-year-old George Zimmerman was discovered by Sanford, Florida police standing over the body of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, they accepted Zimmerman's claim that he killed in self-defense as a neighborhood watch captain. Now, through a statement released by the National Sheriffs' Association (NSA) -- the parent organization of USAonWatch-Neighborhood Watch -- it has been revealed that Zimmerman was not a member of any group recognized by the organization. Zimmerman violated the central tenets of Neighborhood Watch by following Martin, confronting him and carrying a concealed weapon.

"In no program that I have ever heard of does someone patrol with a gun in their pocket," Carmen Caldwell, the Executive Director of Citizens' Crime Watch of Miami-Dade, told theGrio. "Every city and municipality has their own policies. Here in Miami-Dade we train people only to be the eyes and ears of their communities. Not to follow and most definitely not to carry a weapon."

Despite this, Zimmerman admitted that he had fired a weapon on the night of the incident. In addition, the non-emergency call Zimmerman placed on February 26 before the shooting revealed he had been pursuing Martin by car before accosting the youth on foot -- all direct violations of Neighborhood Watch policies.

A neighborhood watch person is still a regular citizen and we have no idea if he identified himself as such to T.

Thanks for the copy/paste, already read that.

I didn't say he was a GOOD Neighborhood Watch Captain. At least he tried to do something besides make excuses for black people. You won't understand that, but it is how I see it.

The 2nd degree charge got everyone to calm down.

Does the prosecutor really believe they'll get a conviction on that charge?

Probably not, but it DID settle things down, and now everyone can go about their business of conducting a trial. In the meantime, all these leaks will help limit the outrage when Z is acquitted.

I don't ignore you at all, failed racist bitch. You're funny to read. Funny in that sad way. I experienced enforced desegregation starting in 3rd grade and learned that people of color were exactly the same as me, no different. I just ignore your opinions, because for the most part they're part of a breakdown of your ability to live in society. No one's fault but your own.

I read a black board occasionally, so your attempt to classify me as racist falls on deaf ears.

Black people don't like you any better than I do.

Why pretend?

Yep, that's a broken nose. Damn!

Looks like it might have been taken in a squad car?

Funny to look back and see how the spin was put on that video release that he wasn't injured. From the look of that nose, the gashes on his head, and the eyewitness account of the fight the officers on the scene could easily have believed the self defense claim.

LC, doesn't 2nd degree seem a big stretch here? Because if they are hoping to plea down, I doubt Zimmerman will take it.

hah
i have been saying for weeks here now that it should/may get reduced to manslaughter. Corey overcharged. and you are hearing this from a pro-pros long-time florida sheriff deputy.
technically he could get 20 to life for 2nd degree. but i don't think the elements are there to convict on that.
would Z take a plea? not if O'Mara thinks they have a very good shot at trial. remains to be seen.

All I want to know is who was the one who confronted the other and if Trayvon jumped Zimmerman (if in fact, that is the case) did he do it out of fear for his own safety after being pursued around the neighborhood?

Unfortunately, the dead can't talk though so I guess we'll see what the evidence supports but absent Trayvon's side of the story and reliable witness testimony, I might never truly believe everything the defense puts forth.

Those few minutes are a black hole. Seemingly anything could have happened and the only person alive left to tell their story is Z.

What about a polygraph for Z? Has that been offered/suggested? If not, why not if he's so certain of his innocence?

I think an article mentioned that Z was completely forthcoming with the police and that he took some sort of poly and passed with flying colors.

There's apparently one eyewitness who has told police she saw Trayvon on top of Zimmerman, pummeling him.

Your question as to who initiated the confrontation is really the KEY issue to me.

No good attorney would advise his client to take an LE-administered polygraph, imo. The attorney doesn't know for sure if the client is lying or telling the truth; too risky. Even if the client is being truthful, he could still fail the fallible poly and it would look really bad in the court of public opinion, which Zimmerman's attorneys are using strategically via media right now. The fact that there was no one present to refute Zimmerman's versions of events works in his favor, whether he's lying or telling the truth.

Edit: Re: MS's post above: IF Z took an early poly based on what LE originally believe happened and passed, then almost certainly he won't be advised to take another.

because he is claiming self-defense, and it's hard to prove otherwise.
what might hang him is that he was carrying and was not supposed to be in that neighborhood watch capacity. HE HAD NO POLICE POWERS.

But, if he eludes arrest, this tells me that:

You can shoot/kill an unarmed person and simply claim self-defense.

Oh, and make sure there aren't any witnesses.

Just your word versus the dead guys word.

Funny how a couple months' worth of information can rend a post null and void. ^^^^^

I'm completely on the side of Z now, after I've heard the whole story.

IMO, T would not be dead if he didn't jump Z.

Did he DESERVE to die? No.

Is that a chance you take when you bumrush somebody? Yes.
