You planning on watching the debates?

I don't see it as a luxury IF they don't have any other phone such as a land line. If they have a land line then no, they don't get a free cell phone.

I didn't see it & I haven't read anything yet. Can you talk about it? Are you saying Mittler did a good job?

He held his own!

Romney set the tone for the night in his first answer after Obama's opening remarks, in response to a question from Lehrer on how each would create more jobs in the U.S.

Romney began to chip away at the image many hold of him, as a man who does not care for Americans who are not wealthy or successful, or who are in the middle class; he aggressively pushed back on Obama's characterizations of his policies; and he laid out why he thinks Obama has failed as president.

His first words about jobs were he's going to take a different path, not the one the president describes as a top down, cut taxes for the rich. That's not what I'm going to do."

Romney then launched into his five-point plan for reviving the economy, touching on energy, trade, education, balancing the budget and promoting small business.

The President tried not to engage, going back to what he would do for education. But when he talked about Romney's tax plan as a $5 trillion tax cut, Romney hit back hard, saying "I don't have a $5 trillion tax cut. I don't have a tax cut of the scale that you're talking about. We need to provide tax relief to people in the middle class. But I'm not going to reduce the share of taxes paid by high-income people.

Romney said that the wealthy will "do fine whether you're president or I am."

Romney said, using the term that Vice President Joe Biden used this week to describe the middle class during the last four years. "Under the president's policies middle-income Americans have been buried".

As Romney used the "buried" term, The President's face did not look happy.

In fact, the President looked unhappy for most of the night. . So . . . . it will be interesting to see the next two debates.

Having ANY kind of phone can be deemed a luxury. Since when did a phone become a necessity? I have to work in order to pay for my data plan, hell I had to work in order to afford my BB. I don't want to help those people, Ramsey. I don't feel they are entitled to any of my money, not one fuckin' dime.

I should add the caveat that I don't ever mind helping those who are in genuine need but if you're wearing a pair of 150.00 sneakers and you want me to pay for your cell phone you can eat shit & die.

Only 20% vote, so it's a wash.

We listened to the last half on satellite radio on our way home from softball and football practice. I have it recorded and will hopefully find the time to watch this weekend. Mitt made a lot more sense and the President seemed to be on his period.

Mitt did much better than I expected. I think it was a win for him.

The President seemed like he was offended that he even had to be at the debate. Subsequently, he didn't even show up... stammered, had difficulty speaking and getting his points out. Barely looked at Romney, and spent a good deal of the night staring down at his podium... probably looking for his teleprompter.

Romney on the other hand looked presidential, was in command the whole 90 minutes, and was on point in nearly every exchange. Kept eye contact with Obama the entire debate, and was polite and respectful.

Obama is getting roundly panned on his performance, even by his most ardent supporters. It was not a good night for him at all.

The media narrative that Romney is a gaffe machine who is not up to being president was dealt a setback last night.

Why, because Obama lost a debate? Or because you think the other guy is like Hitler?

I'm not an Obama supporter any more than I am a Mittler supporter. I say Mittler because it amuses ME to do so. Don't be a dummie who thinks it implies I support Obama.

It was a joy reading about both candidate's misstatements and obfuscations this morning. I'm still not clear as to how Mitt is going to accomplish some of his fiscal goals.

Lehrer sucked.

Romney definitely took round 1, imo. I think he was better prepared, had more details to back up most of his general plans, and was more composed. I think he scored with some of us Independents when he hammered about how Obamacare was pushed through with no Republican votes and was able to respond to his state's health care plan being similar to Obamacare by differentiating it with the fact that is was a fully bi-partisan effort.

Romney didn't detail how he will cut the deficit by $5 trillion by closing tax loopholes instead of raising taxes. Key issue, to me. I want to hear what loopholes and how it equates to that amount.

I kept getting calls and had to mute a lot. Looking at the screen with no sound was interesting. Obama looked generally peeved and Romney looked enthused.

Imo, it was a good debate - more detail than most. I'll be watching the VP debate and the next two Presidential debates. I've always thought that this election would be closer than generally anticipated. If Romney continues to represent himself well, answers the deficit reduction question, and Ryan blows Biden away, I think it will be a very tight race.

It's okay. I know you have a lot of tards to deal with, so I get it.

Plus, you're hot... it makes it easier to take.

The reaction on the left and the attacks on Lehrer are quite telling.

For Chrissy Matthews the tingle is gone.

Even the ragin' cajin' couldn't spin it for his guy.

The upcoming foreign policy debate is a loser for obama any way you slice it. If he trots out the head of Osama all Romney has to say is: Thank you Seal Team 6. Subtle but effective.

The majority of the undecided vote will break for Romney unless there is some catastropic event/gaffe that he can't overcome.
