Dzhokhar Tsarnaev's first court hearing is today. No cameras allowed. It's being reported that he has arrived at the federal courthouse and the hearing is sometime this afternoon.

It's expected that many of the bombing victims and their families will be there today. I read that there is a heavy police presence surrounding Dzhokhar & it's for his protection. Ironic, huh.

He plead not guilty, next court date is September 23.

His trial is expected to last 3-4 months.

How can he plead not guilty?? The trial is such a waste of time and money. You know he is going to be convicted.

I think it may be his "right". I could be wrong, I don't know much about the law and how it's applied.

He ignored the victims in the courtroom & blew kisses to his sobbing sister. Apparently his attitude was one of indifference. It's sucky that no cameras are allowed.

He's probably been watching the zimmerman trial and fancies chancing his arm at a “standing my ground against the infidel American pigs” defence.

This is kind of interesting - when Dzhokhar appeared in court today one arm was in a cast and half his face & eye were swollen. The bombing & his capture happened in early April, wouldn't any injuries have been healed by now?

Musicians & other entertainers vie for this kind of attention. It's my understanding that gracing the cover of Rolling Stone is considered an honor. They are giving this POS the rock star treatment.

Why the fuck did Rolling Stone put him on the cover?

It's said they did it so that a contributing editor could deliver a "riveting and heartbreaking account of how a charming kid with a bright future became a monster.” 78

Who gives a fuck.

Rolling Stone does some good investigative reporting and maybe there's some value in understanding this killer's descent.

But, personally, I don't give a fuck about his story and that cover rubs me the wrong way. It just glorifies a mass murder to sell mags, imo.

We aren't the only people to feel this way. Stores are beginning to come forward stating they won't be selling this particular issue.

Because he's innocent.

Did you really believe he wrote a "confession" in blood?

A Massachusetts State police officer released these pix after this weeks issue of Rolling Stone was put out. In his disgust he felt people should see how it really was and to reinforce that this young man is not a rock star deserving of the cover of Rolling Stone. He has since been "relieved of duty".

The photographer, Sgt. Sean Murphy, is now on desk duty while Internal Affairs looks into his infractions.

Murphy shouldn't have leaked the photos, in my opinion. The FBI is pissed and the release was a breach of his employment contract too, as I understand it. I don't think cops should be able to release confidential crime scene photos as an emotional response to media reports. Tsarnaev hasn't even been tried yet.

But, Murphy has an outstanding record of over 25 years of service, backing from his superiors, and a large group of people supporting him and voicing their support via social media. Seems like a hell of a cop.

Sgt Murphy with bombing victim

Doesn't look like he'll lose his job (hope not), but it'll depend on the result of the IA investigation. Murphy testified at a hearing last week that he did not receive money for the photos.

P.s. despite being put off by the glamor shot-like cover, I read the Rolling Stone piece on Tsarnaev. Very good read.

I agree with you but I understand his motivation as well. I don't feel as strongly about the RS cover pic now that some time has passed and it's really easy for me to be a hypocrite about many things including this but, bottom line, he shouldn't have released the pix. It's bad enough that EMT's and other first responders have a goddamn website dedicated to pix of various awful things, car accidents, shootings, things of that nature. They try to outdo themselves in who has the worst pix to post.

I think what he did was right, mainly because what RS did was so wrong. Not illegal, but wrong. So what to do about it?
Posting the pics made the point that the asshole was an asshole, not a poofed up rockstar.
Good on the cop

Rolling stone put that motherfucker on the cover just to cause controversy to sell more copies, I hope they failed and they sold less copies.
