Listing herself as fluent in French and English, Vernillet spent time in London, England studying French at the Lycée Francais Charles de Gaulle before returning to Northgate High School in Walnut Creek, California.
Moving to Illinois in 2008, Harris and Vernillet married in 2010 and their daughter was also born that year.

re: post 117 forward. Tia Sharp.
nasty grandma was at funeral, and is charged in murder!
---------------------------------------------

Hundreds of school children, many weeping, lined the streets today as the horse-drawn funeral cortege of murder victim Tia Sharp processed towards her final resting place. Preceded by two police motorbikes, two black horses, wearing plumes of pink feathers, pulled a traditional glass carriage laden with flowers, including one tribute that spelled out 'Our Girl'. Despite being on police bail over her granddaughter's murder, Christine Sharp, 46, was at the youngster's funeral. Dressed in a pink shirt, black jacket and glasses with multi-colored painted nails, Ms Sharp traveled in the car directly behind the horse drawn carriage that carried Tia's body into Garth Road Crematorium by Merton and Sutton Joint Cemetery, where a private service is being held.

daily mail
What a beautiful send off for the little darling. I am surprised Grandma had the nerve to show her face.

Good thing she is in England and not Guatemala, she could have been skinned alive.
I have been following this case since the beginning, it's in Wales in the UK. It's outstanding the way the community has worked together and do not want to give up, they have all pulled together, the police have been searching up to 20 locations at a time, pulling up paving stones, working throughout the night in torrential downpours and everything. Police forces from across the UK have been helping too. This morning, even though it was almost inevitable, the person arrested on suspicion of abduction has now be re arrested on suspicion of murder.

There are stories in every national broadsheet and tabloid about little April Jones. She was abducted while playing with a friend near her home in a very small tight knit community, she is 5 and suffers from CB. Mark Bridger the man arrested on suspicion of murder now, was apprehended they day after her disappearance and police named him and released his photo to the media (not a common move).
Here is one from the Daily Mail, lots of pics

Mark Bridger, the man suspected of snatching April Jones has been arrested on suspicion of her murder.
The 46-year-old has been in custody since Tuesday after being held in connection with the abduction of the missing five-year-old.
This morning detectives revealed they have now arrested him on suspicion of murder suggesting they are now looking for April's body.
The grim news was revealed by Detective Superintendent Reg Bevan at a press conference in Aberystwyth.

'While this is a significant development in the investigation, I once again appeal to the public for information which may help us find April.'
Officers have to make a decision on whether to charge or release Bridger by 5pm today - or then can apply for another 24 hours to question him.
At the press conference Superintendent Ian John said that because of today's 'significant development' it was no longer appropriate for the many volunteers who had joined the hunt for April to continue searching.

Det Supt Reg Bevan reiterated his urgent appeal for information from anyone who saw Bridger or his blue Land Rover Discovery between 6.30pm on Monday and 3.30pm on Tuesday.

He said officers were trying to piece together Bridger’s movements at the ‘relevant times’.
Police are conducting ‘cell-site analysis’ of Bridger’s mobile phone in the hope of tracking his exact movements on the night April vanished, after she was lured into a vehicle by a mystery man as she played with friends.
And detectives have reportedly called on the help of one of the world's leading forensic psychologists, who advised British and Portuguese police in the search for Madeleine McCann.
Joe Sullivan is said to have been drafted into the police investigation team to give advice on interviewing Bridger, The Times claimed.
Details of Jazmin’s harrowing message to friends were reported by Sky News as her exhausted mother Coral, 40, was whisked away from her home in an unmarked police car.
For days, she has been a virtual recluse at her home, waiting by her phone, praying for good news.
At about 2pm she left the house in a hurry, prompting speculation there might have been a long-hoped for breakthrough in the case.

But soon after she departed sources confirmed there had been no progress in the search operation.
A police officer refused to say where Mrs Jones had gone. Asked if the strain was ‘getting too much’, he replied: ‘Yes, it is.’
In a further heart-rending twist, it was revealed that April’s father Paul Jones, 43, has been unable to join in the police search for his daughter because he fears he is going blind.
Mr Jones is suffering a degenerative eye disease – stopping him joining the hordes of volunteers hunting for April. His sight problems also meant he could not take part in a televised appeal alongside his devastated wife on Wednesday.

Specialist police search teams were being helped in the hunt by a marine unit, mountain rescue, the Coastguard and lifeboat services.
Members of the public have also been asked to search their immediate surroundings including gardens and outbuildings.
David Cameron said. ‘This is every family’s nightmare and the fact that April suffers from cerebral palsy – something I know a little about from my own children – only makes this worse. My appeal would be to everyone – if you know anything, talk to the police.’
Police said the hunt would continue throughout the night despite the treacherous weather conditions, including heavy rain and strong winds.
Superintendent John from Dyfed Powys Police said in a press conference yesterday evening that the force has received more than 2,500 phone calls with information since launching their appeal.

At Bridger's home yesterday police were seen lifting paving slabs and searching outbuildings at the rural property.
Teams dressed in forensic overalls and face masks entered Bridger's detached house while other search teams used ladders to climb on top of surrounding buildings.
The search operation has been described as 'one of the largest of its kind in recent history'.

This is a weird new case.

The accused

A New York police officer accused of conspiring to kidnap, rape, torture and cook a number of women and eat their body parts has been arrested , the U.S. Attorney's Office in Manhattan said Thursday.

Valle, a six-year NYPD veteran, was arrested Wednesday at his home in Queens. He is accused of illegally accessing a national crime database to locate potential targets, scouting potential targets at their homes and workplaces, and exchanging e-mails and instant messages with alleged co-conspirators about plans to target women, the attorney's office said.

His lawyer contends it was all just fantasy and talk on a fetish site.

Adriaunna Horton went missing last month when she was playing with her friends and sisters at Golden City Park in Missouri.

Adriaunna Horton, 12, Victim

3 days later, one of her father's friends who'd worked with him on a construction project (and whose kids played with Adriaunna) was arrested; his vehicle matched witness descriptions.

Bobby D. Bourne Jr., 34, Suspect - charged with kidnapping, rape and murder

After initially denying that he'd taken Adriaunna, Bourne told investigators that he'd driven the girl to a vacant home in Golden City to question her as to the whereabouts of her father.

He told investigators that Adriaunna then fell as she tried to run away from him and died as a result of the fall (similar unbelievable story as the one that Willow Long's uncle is pushing).

An autopsy conducted in Springfield found evidence that Adriaunna had been strangled. Her body also showed signs of sexual assault. Hope this predator fries.

RIP Adriaunna.
Effed-up father and son

Nicholas Brooks, 27, was convicted in July of murdering 33-year-old Sylvie Cachay in December 2010. Today, he was sentenced to 25 years to life.

Prosecutors contend that Brooks strangled Cachay, a designer for Marc Jacobs, Victoria's Secret and Tommy Hilfiger, in the bathtub of their SoHo hotel room because she was going to dump the unemployed college drop-out (who was living off his father's money).

His father, Joseph Brooks, won the Academy Award for best original song in 1977 for "You Light Up My Life," sung by Debby Boone. Brooks wrote and directed the romantic comedy of the same name.

Joseph Brooks, in his heyday and just before his death

The 73-year-old Brooks killed himself in his apartment 2011, while he prepared for his Manhattan trial and his son was in jail awaiting his own.

Prosecutors said the songwriter lured the women to his Manhattan apartment through an online ad offering auditions for a movie role, then sexually assaulted them after making them drink apparently drugged wine as part of an "acting exercise."

Brooks, Sr. pleaded not guilty. But four days after his death, his former assistant pleaded guilty to criminal facilitation, admitting she had helped him meet 10 of the women.
U.S. Courthouse Attacked by Shooter

Jesus, attacks (or attempts) at government facilities seem to be occurring in much closer proximity and more frequently than in the past. Didn't even think this one merited its own thread. Effed up.

Anyway, the one from yesterday:

WHEELING, W.Va. - Thomas Piccard, a retired police officer armed with an assault weapon and a handgun, fired up to two dozen shots at a U.S. courthouse in West Virginia on Wednesday before police returned fire and killed him, police said.

Wheeling Police Chief Shawn Schwertfeger said Piccard was a retired Wheeling police officer.

Schwertfeger did not say whether Piccard, 55, of Bridgeport, Ohio, used both weapons during the assault on the Wheeling Federal Building or speculate on a motive.

Three on-duty security officers were injured by flying debris during the onslaught, he told a news conference. There were no other injuries.

I read about this over the weekend. Crazy fuck. How the hell do you kill a family because they have more than you. Jesus. Work, muthafucka. It was reported that the baby was decapitated :(

He used a machete and scissors.

The children’s father came home from work too late to save his family, according to neighbors and law-enforcement sources, who stressed early Sunday that their information was still preliminary.

Police identified the victims as 1-year-old William Zhuo, a 5-year-old Kevin Zhuo, a 7-year-old Amy Zhuo, 9-year-old Linda Zhuo and 37-year-old Qiao Zhen Li.

RICIN LETTERS - CONVICTION

Remember the army veteran and Elvis impersonator who was arrested in May, just after the Boston bombing, on suspicion of sending Ricin-laced letters to Obama and Bloomberg?

He was released shortly after his arrest as investigators uncovered that his pregnant estranged wife, who'd been the one to implicate him, was being deceptive.

Turns out, the wife sent the letters and tried to frame her husband. She pleaded guilty and was sentenced to a max of 18 years in prison yesterday. That's a pretty sweet plea deal for trying to kill the president, a mayor, and other government officials, IMO.

Anyway, here's the former couple in happier times.

Nathaniel Richardson (exonerated) and Shannon Guess Richardson (convicted)

What a nut job. She has six sons ranging from 5 months old to 19 years old. Nathaniel Richardson was awarded custody of the baby in August.

She looks crazy.

What a psycho whack-job.
A max of 18 years for attempting to murder the president?
(12-11-2013, 03:17 PM)Cynical Ninja Wrote: [ -> ]A max of 18 years for attempting to murder the president?

It's weird to me, too.

Sure, she's a whack job and her intention was to fuck over her estranged husband (killing others wasn't her primary goal, just a means to an end).

But, really, why should that matter? If the Ricin hadn't been detected, any number of people could have died, including those to whom she addressed the letters. They wouldn't be any less dead simply because they weren't her primary targets.

Then again, I still think it's weird that Hinckley gets to go home and visit with his parents. If some of his psychiatrists have their way, he may be released from institutionalization altogether soon. I know he was found not guilty of attempting to assassinate Ronald Reagan (to impress Jodie Foster), by reasons of insanity, but don't think he should ever be released from psychiatric incarceration and back into society.

Sometimes decisions within the justice system make little sense to me.
MONTANA NEWLYWED PLEADS GUILTY TO MURDERING HUSBAND

This case and trial had been getting a lot of media attention, but didn't really grab my interest; only been following it loosely.

It did surprise me to read today that the bride/defendant agreed to a plea deal after both the prosecution and defense had rested their cases, and before trial proceeded to closing arguments and jury deliberations.

She really could have had a good chance of getting away with it scot free had she just called and reported her husband's "fall" from a cliff as an accident rather than pushing an elaborate lie to police for days. That did her in, IMO.

Were I her attorneys, I'd probably have suggested she roll the dice anyway, based on the evidence presented. Maybe they did and a guilty conscience motivated her to plead.

Anyway, I think second degree is murder is the right sentence for her, in any case (she was charged with first degree murder).

GIVING HEAD FOR CHRISTMAS, LITERALLY

Alexis Valdez, 18 - one very creepy murdering decapitating SOB

Alexis Valdez, 18, has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of 41-year-old Silvestre Diaz-Hernandez.

Valdez moved in with his aunt and Diaz about six months ago. Valdez was allowed to move into the apartment, in the 2500 block of N. Kildare in Chicago, on the condition that he go to school, work and contribute to household expenses. But eventually, Valdez stopped working and he was asked to move out.

Valdez confessed to killing Diaz-Hernandez with a hammer, allegedly playing loud music and covering the apartment’s windows to mask the crime, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors allege Valdez then mutilated the body and decapitated the victim, leaving the head on his aunt’s bed.

“He wanted to ‘leave his aunt a present,’” Assistant State’s Attorney Kingsley Sawyer reportedly said.

Prosecutors allege Valdez called 911 to report a dead body. When the dispatcher asked whether he had attempted CPR, Valdez allegedly laughed and said the body had no head, reports the station.

Police reportedly discovered Valdez covered in blood. According to Sawyer, he told authorities, “If his aunt had come home, and seen the victim’s body, then he would have killed her as well.”

Friday, Valdez was ordered held without bond.
