I am Australia and have some British mates and they said they were surprised of the use of the term "wog" to mean "black person when we use it to mean " someone from "Italy" and the surrounding countries (Greece and so on). Also the Australia culture of the "larrikin" comes into play (also prevalent in New Zealand) where we poke fun at ourselves and others.
In addition the "Wogs out of work", "Wog boy", "Eat Pizza" and even "Con The Fruitier" have cultural embedded in the Australian culture as to what "wog" signifies and with it an acceptance and embracing of "wog culture" as important to Australia and Australians.
So trying for the "Wog is not offensive - look at the Australians is not really going to fly when used in a Global cultural assertion.
