A local article stated that California already requires schools to cover the contributions of: women, African-Americans, Mexican Americans, entrepreneurs (wtf?), Asian Americans, European Americans, American Indians and labor (promoting unions, are we??).

Harvey Milk is pretty much the only "hero" of gay history (I guess, I didn't even see the movie). I wouldn't want to be the one writing about gay history. How do you even fill up a page? I guess Rock Hudson could get a sentence... A full page photo spread of Anderson Cooper might help.

I don't like any of the separatist histories. If you call it gay history, you are separating them from the herd and holding gays out as different. Same with black history.

I agree. I think that separatist histories actually perpetuate stereotypes of a "lesser" group. Similarly, I'm opposed to affirmative action.

I think it may be theraputic for young people struggling to accept their sexual orientation. I can see benefit in this.

I don't know how they would define it but my interpretation would be a sexual orientation towards your own gender, not by your choice. In fact the only choice the individual has is to accept it or fight it, but it's a reality that is undeniable. I don't know how you feel about it but I am sure sex ed would be a part of it. I disagree with others who have equated it with being born a criminal or murderer. That highly charges the issue and polorizes the discussion.
