walking while black - Trayvon Martin

Today is the day. It's finally here! It's been so difficult trying to wait patiently for this to start.

If angels get to go where they want to then LC will be in that courtroom.

Today is the beginning of the end for George. HaHaFuckingHa. As with everything I post, if I have to eat those words I'll be back to do it in front of everyone.

Note: Not all of the juror questioning will be done in open court, so there will be times when the stream just shows the seal of the state of Florida or courtroom flags.

The State of Florida vs. George Zimmerman
Charge: Second degree murder of Trayvon Martin

Lots of activity outside of the courtroom in Florida. There was also a hearing this morning.

George Zimmerman's wife, Shellie Zimmerman, and Trayvon Martin's mother and father (Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin) attended the proceedings. State Attorney Angela Corey, whose assistant prosecutors have been trying the case, also attended.

Nelson described the procedure for jury selection. She said the first 100 jurors would be questioned individually. They all will then be brought into open court and will be questioned in the courtroom by lawyers. The hearing, which lasted about 15 minutes, then went into recess as prospective jurors responded to a questionnaire.

Zimmerman's attorney, O'Mara, again asked for more time. Denied.

"We're not fully ready and we need more time," O'Mara told the judge. Assistant State Attorney Bernie de la Rionda objected and said lawyers defending George Zimmerman had "plenty of time" to prepare. Nelson agreed and denied the motion.

The judge however, did rule that a defense motion to prohibit prosecutors from using inflammatory words such as "profiled," "vigilante," "wannabe cop," and "self-appointed neighborhood watch captain" would be partially granted in reference to potential jurors. Lawyers will not be allowed to use those words when questioning potential jurors.

Not sure if the same terms will be barred once testimony starts; the ruling only applied to potential jurors. Also, I think the issues of allowing voice recognition experts/technology and whether the impaneled jury will be sequestered remain undecided, so separate hearings for those will resume soon.

George's brother, Robert Zimmerman Jr., irritates me.

He never shuts up. From comparing Trayvon Martin to a black minor who murdered a baby, to calling a press conference and babbling on about his internal conflict when "coming out", to jumping in front of cameras again this morning to proclaim that the state won't meet its burden and gushing about the extraordinary defense team of O'Mara and West.

I just don't think he's helping the Zimmerman family, the opposite. I wish they'd stifle him. His creep factor is off the charts, imo.

I just watched a news interview with Zimmermans brother on youtube what a creepy little attention whore he is!

You're right, he's not helping and I'm very surprised that George's attorney hasn't tried to shut him up. Surely he would be quiet if asked to, right?

I don't think anyone can shut him up.

O'Mara had to apologize for Jr. after that tweet comparing Trayvon to a black baby killer. It smacked of baseless stereotyping and racism; exactly what the defense doesn't want the public/potential jury pool to believe about George and the Zimmerman family.

I don't know if the Zimmerman family actually believes that he's an effective advocate for themselves and George, but gotta think that O'Mara's smart and objective enough to have tried to muzzle Jr.

As CN noted, he comes across like a shameless attention whore who jumps at every opportunity to spout.

This guys idea of a good time is a dick in the ass, AND he has to go on national television and tell everyone about it.

I don't think that your brothers arrest and trial for second degree murder is really an appropriate time to come prancing out of the closet on your little tippy toes.

Maybe he's just trying to baffle the jury with his newly found acceptance of his queerness.

Yeah, it's not so much that he's speaking, supposedly on behalf of his brother and family. The Martins are speaking too. It's that so much of what he says is counter-productive or about himself (or otherwise irrelevant).

I'm expecting to hear a lot more from him as the trial progresses, though.

There's a media room set aside in the courthouse; that's where he gave his interview this morning. Just don't think he'll be able to keep himself outta there, if his pre-trial conduct holds steady.

The attorneys have gone through the 100 initial written juror questionairres; they're now verbally questioning selected potential jurors in open court. The process is interesting.

Watch here:
http://wildabouttrial.com/george-zimmerm...tream.html

The initial potential jury pool is comprised of 500 people. If the attorneys can't agree on 6 objective jurors and 4 alternates from the first 100, they'll start with another subset of the 500 potential jurors and follow the same process.

I'm watching but I'm going back to simply listening. If I have to keep seeing George sitting there like he is I'm going to start feeling sorry for him.

That's what the defense is hoping the jury will feel too.

Interesting how widely physical perceptions differ and how they sometimes affect those observing.

That's why the defense lowered Casey Anthony's chair so she looked even smaller and why Jodi Arias suddenly required glasses and an especially meek appearance.

I don't know if George's weight gain and darting or closed eyes are intentional to garner sympathy, but to me he simply seems like he's medicated. At times during the pretrial hearings last week, I thought he looked really shifty.

So curious as to whether O'Mara will put Zimmerman on the stand.

I thought he looked VERY shifty the other day when his eyes kept darting back & forth. It was a little creepy...not that this means anything at all, it's just an observation.

I think six is privy to hitherto unknown information he seems to be quite clear zimmermans brother is a receiver not a giver of dick. Zimmermans brother has stated no preference in public, perhaps six knows the physical signs of a receiver from personal experience?

Some of the legal talking heads today are predicting up to 3 weeks for jury selection.

Sure hope that's an overly conservative estimate. I'm thinking a jury will be impaneled and testimony can begin early next week.

The trial is expected to last 4 to 6 weeks.
