THERE'S A KILLER ON THE ROAD & OTHER PRISON ESCAPES
I hope that Sweat gets taken alive, only because he's the one direct source of information for authorities to learn exactly who aided the murderers in the escape and how it was all facilitated.

It's inexcusable that Joyce Mitchell was allowed to maintain an ongoing relationship with the inmates even after her inappropriateness had been reported and investigated, and that Gene Palmer felt entitled to break policy and deliver to the murderers a huge package without running it through the metal detector, and that security guards were reportedly sleeping on the job when they were being paid to be watching prisoner activity. They, and anybody else involved, need to be held accountable and those gaping holes in security need to be plugged immediately.

But, I imagine Sweat would rather suicide by cop than spend the rest of his life holed up with no privileges.

Whether he's ultimately taken dead or alive, I hope it happens soon and that he doesn't hurt or kill anybody until then.

Last I heard they don't have eyes on him.

That's true -- he might refuse to give up the info.

But, Sweat knows he's looking at very tight lockdown if he's recaptured. From what I've read about him, he's a self-serving piece of shit, just like Richard Matt.

So, authorities might be able to get a lot of information out of him for very little in return.

I bet he pulls a suicide by cop tactic to avoid the tight lockdown.

I thought for sure I would wake up to find he had been captured overnight.

Right, if supposedly as they said the two were "together", how de hell did Sweat get so far away already that they didn't catch up to him already!

(Last heard, there were 1,100 searching for them, now him. Of course, that may be in shifts, not all at one time)

I think the searchers embellished when they said they were "hot on his trail". They have said they haven't laid eyes on him and that they don't even know if he was with Matt on Friday.

NBC is reporting that Matt was killed by gunshots to the head, 3 to be exact.

Escaped inmate Richard Matt was shot three times in the head and died from severe skull fractures and brain injuries, according to autopsy results released Sunday.

The autopsy, performed at Albany Medical Center by Dr. Michael Sikirica, showed that Matt also had bug bites, blisters and minor abrasions "consistent with living in the woods for three weeks," according to a statement from New York State Police.

I'm reading that he was shot by a border control agent.

He really got close to attempting to cross over.

I hope he talks and talks in the hospital (after he's read his rights, of course). I'm so curious as to whether he and Matt knew the corrections officers who owned the cabin where they left some of their belongings and DNA, why they didn't attempt to reach the border early on, and who else might have helped them escape.

ETA: Latest report says Sweat was shot by a NY State Trooper; Matt was shot by border control.

The Trooper needs more time at the target range! Damn it!

If Sweat wasn't posing an immediate threat, I wonder if LE's orders were to try to take him alive so they could get vital information from him?

The last report I saw said that he was running away when he was shot.

He's a lifer, so if he is "not" a narcissist as they say he may not be, he will not offer any valuable information or rat out anyone! They say he may be offered better food, or privileges to temp him to cooperate, maybe that may work. It will be interesting to see if he will spill the beans, I bet there a bunch of prison personnel shittin a brick right now!

I doubt Sweat gives a shit about anybody who helped him and Matt escape; the convicts were just using the prison workers. Those prison workers should definitely be shittin bricks.

I think Sweat would sell them out in a heartbeat if he could get anything out of cooperating.

I hope the asshole pulls through so he can be interviewed; he's said to be in critical condition.

Snip:
"Now that we have Mr. Sweat, it gives us the opportunity to have some more questions and provide more facts on the overall situation," Cuomo said. "Anyone who we find who was culpable and guilty of cooperating in the escape will be fully prosecuted."

New York State Police Superintendent Joseph A.D'Amico told reporters that investigators haven't yet interviewed Sweat, but that they hope to soon.

Investigators have questioned guards at the Clinton Correctional Facility about what conversations they had with the escapees about life outside the prison, according to a law enforcement official.

They believe Sweat and Matt were gathering information for almost a year about hunting cabins and the fields around the prison to help them navigate the terrain.

It's believed their conversations with the guards might have given the escapees some knowledge of how to get around, the official said.

I heard last night that both the hunting camps they broke into were owned by corrections officers.
