I'm not without compassion for the people over there, but they've known since February 2020 that this day was coming and suddenly so many of them are expressing shock & disbelief. What the actual fuck!

I saw a female Iranian journalist comment on a still photo of this and she said that one would have to be from Afghanistan or Iran to understand the fear of the Islamic regimes that you prefer trying your luck hanging onto the wheels of a military plane than living under sharia laws. "Our fear is rational"

I saw pictures of people falling off the airplanes they were clinging to when they were fairly high in the sky and it reminded me of the people jumping out of building during 911

I haven't seen them yet, but I have repeatedly read about them today.

I've been reading posts made by some of the people there, citizens, one a banker who said that it had been just like any other work day, and then it wasn't. It has been like there is no resistance to what has come down, none whatsoever. They aren't putting up a fight for their own country. They all just rolled over for the Taliban. How can it be that I, some random old lady in the country with a gun, would put up a bigger fight than those grown ass men.

I'm sorry for them. I'm sorry for the suffering they will endure, but they've had years. We've supplied them with state of the art weapons and vehicles and 20 fricken years of training & support. What do we owe them? Anything? That's a serious question.

It's a fear of being seen as collaborators. Wars are always brutal. Always. And brutality begets brutality.

The idiots in the White House should have negotiated a peace BEFORE tucking their tail between their legs and beating a hasty, ill-considered retreat -- for the sake of the Afghanis who worked with us, and our standing in the world, which is now worse than it was under Trump.

BTW, Milley is now warning about the threat of terrorism from the Afghan refugees we're taking in. All on account of the Biden admin's incompetence -- and Milley's, as well. He's the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs. He must have signed off on their hairbrained scheme.

The president needs to come out and address this. I would have liked to see that done yesterday.

An interim government led by the Taliban is formed. President Ghani is giving up without a fight, not even a tiny semblance of one. Whatta fricken waste of life, money & time.

I just heard that Ghani couldn't fit all the money he was trying to abscond with into his helicopter. So yeah, a real winner, for sure. Smiley_emoticons_fies

He's corrupt.

I did a little reading about him. He's highly educated & accomplished. I tried like hell to find a quote of his I had recently read, but couldn't find it, but I do remember the gist of it and it was that he wouldn't leave, he was there for the long haul. When our military left things fell apart almost immediately. I don't want to generalize and say they all collapsed, I've read that many of those trained in war believe in themselves and believe in their mission. Ugh. It's all just so awful and I'm pissed that those who helped us are in so much danger right now. They need our help and our country needs to get them out of there.

The Taliban is now driving around with American tanks and Humvee's. I would have thought they would be disabled but I guess not. The withdrawal has been a complete failure and many countries are repeating that. Biden has never ever been an accomplished negotiator in any type of foreign scenario.

This is the proof. Pakistan with their Nuclear stockpile is in the Taliban's eyes now, It's just a matter of time.

Maybe because they don't wear masks and don't keep social distancing in mind they will just die off from the Covide plague. Or maybe they will get woke and start using the proper pronouns like America does. And take out decade long institutions. LOL

Time will tell right.
I would like to see them wiped off the face of the Earth , but that's just me.

So why is it that 20 years in Afghanistan adds up to nothing? Because we were fighting for gender equality, which in that part of the world is an uphill battle, to say the least. It would have taken far more resources than what the US gov't committed, including a commitment to stay for as long as it took. Which may well have been worth doing, but only if you're prepared to do what it takes to get the job done.

So why didn't the Biden admin double down and increase it's support for a mission we have already invested so much in?

He's the first president in years who had enough balls to actually leave. Everyone else just ran their mouths. I support leaving and so does the majority of our country.

There is a shit ton of American media doing their damndest to make average Americans feel bad for leaving Afghanistan. Why are they doing that?! It's hard to express just how fucking insulting it is. I'm sorry for the people there, especially the women, but I truly don't feel that they are our responsibility.

I'm trying really hard not to feel resentful, but when I do it's usually accompanied by guilt for feeling that way.

I really am so surprised by how much they have annoyed me this week. Normally I just move on when I get annoyed, but they are everywhere now. All I want are facts, that's it. I'm not interested in their commentary nor their opinions, I have you guys for that. I just want to know what's going on.

You think the chaos we're seeing was inevitable, that there was nothing that could be done to prevent it?
